Suits 3.2 Review ‘I want you to want me’

24 Jul 2013

From the premiere it was clear that the Suits’ Universe has changed, but in this episode we can really see how much. Then we can ask, “is there a chance of a return to when they all were friends?” And with the Game of Thrones’ references in this season’s promos, were they more than just a nod to the guest stars - Michelle Fairley and Conleth Hill - but also a way to announce hard times ahead? (‘Winter is coming’ quote amirite?)

This episode highlighted every problem there is between the relationships inside the firm, and how much work they need before they’re OK.
Jessica and Harvey’s relationship is mirrored by Ava and Nick, making us wonder through the whole episode if there’s a way to solve their problems. But Jessica would repeat everything she did to put Harvey in his place, and he can't forgive her for that.
Harvey and Mike’s relationship, however, seems to be solved when Harvey goes after him, before Mike’s becomes Louis’ new associate. But, we must ask, if Donna hadn't suggested it... would Harvey had done it?

In this episode, Donna confesses to meddling in Mike and Rachel’s relationship, encouraging Mike to move on before even dating Rachel. What Rachel doesn't realize is that Donna did so to protect her, in the chance that Mike’s secret was exposed creating a liability of Rachel. It wasn't just a case of looking after her boss. Donna’s loyalty to Harvey comes not only from a work relationship, but possibly something else... It has been addressed numerous times if she’s in love with him, without having a straightforward response. We can only wait to see if this season we find out about ‘the other time’, what it meant, and what’s in store for them.
Donna and Rachel’s arguments not only work as an example of the changed dynamics we're seeing, but also to foreshadow some kind of crisis in Donna’s future. Will she always put Harvey and others’ happiness and safety before her own?

As loyalty as the main theme of this episode, we must wonder: who is loyal to Louis? Louis is not a minor character. How much rejection can he take before he acts, he has redeemed himself after his pact with Hardman. But the way the rest of the characters treat him hasn’t changed. As fun as his interactions and jokes with Donna go, can’t he have his own Donna? Has no one realized he’s waiting for a way in to the popular kids’ table? Can someone, please, join the Litt team?

What did you think of the episode?

  2. I didn't like this episode

I felt writers were in a hurry to make Harvey and Mike reconcile. It would have been great if Mike has joined Lois team and stood against Harvey for some time, then Harvey would have realized his importance but here just one pep talk from Donna and all the big talk of Harvey is done and dusted and they are back together.

What happened with Lois is horrible for me as its been more than 2 seasons now he has been made into a laughing stock in the show,i wish writers give him some importance in terms of development of the character and have him an upper hand in some instances too.

  3. I felt like deep down it's not over, does Harvey still trust Mike?
but yes I'm with you... I need someone to be brought in, not to antagonize with Louis like Nigel was, but to be a challenge and be on his team, I don't want Louis going down the scheming path again but it seems like is the only way he gets noticed.

  4. I felt sorry for Louis, I really like his character and I believe he is only scheming and mean at times because he is so often rejected and misled and is never someone's first choice. I wish someone truly cared for him.

Also cant wait to see how things will go if Donna has to choose between Harvey and someone else. She has shown loyalty and devotion to him, I wish he could do the same.

  5. I hope the same too between Mike and Harvey let there be some friction between the two for sometime which will surely make it interesting and other thing i missed in my last comment is that how easily Mike also agreed to be with Harvey again

Harvey has been nothing but unlikeable and childish these past 2 episodes. I'm all for this whole backstabbing Jessica thing to backfire on him so that he can learn yet another lesson...
Louis is once again left in the dust by the Boy Wonder, Mike... I was hoping for something better for the two of them working together. :|

Rachel and Donna were unsuccessful in keeping Harvey and Mike's drama out of their friendship and they need to just ignore those two and be friends because they're more appealing to me in their dynamic than all the bluster and stupid "moves" the other characters are making.

Having said that, I still really enjoy this show. Although it is hitting that spot where too much angst and contrived drama is becoming messy and could mess up the appeal of the show...

  7. Yeah, I so agree. Mike wouldn't even have to act like a child about it, just saying "sorry, but I made a promise, and I stay to my word" would have been enough. It was time for Harvey to get some comeuppance for his actions. (And I'm not one who normally sees Louis as poor innocent woobie...but this time around...yeah, writers, please stop being mean to him).

  8. I loved the review and I agree with everything you said. I felt so sorry for Louis! I would join the Team Litt in a heartbeat :D As for Jessica and Harvey I wonder if things are ever going to be the same. If there's something I know about Harvey is that he doesn't forget and forgive easily.

  9. I was thinking Katrina? Maybe?

  10. it could be? I'd rather have a trustworthy character because I don't trust Katrina, but who knows, maybe hate at first case could become super louis and wonder girl working together...

  11. i wonder !!! NO ONE is THAT LOYAL!!!! i mean come one it's really become UNBELiEVABLE!!! Does Harvey have some dirt on her? is it love? are they married? what is it? cuz Donna guards Harvey like a mother would guard her young - with her life.

  12. I know but I want to give Katrina the benefit of the doubt. Besides, Louis started as an unlikable character, too and then became a fan favourite.
