  2. Play that crappy music at me, and I'll launch the missile myself. I liked the ep, just thought the song sucked.

  3. gave the ep just an ok... some good elements there, but some things really just didn't sit well: most notably Angie all of a sudden comforting Junior just because she possibly felt sorry for him and thought that they were about to die? I don't buy it.... the guy imprisoned her for several days without letting her take a shower and use a lavatory (didn't see one in there) - I doubt she'd want her last moments to be with that person. The "reverend" dying just because Big Jim just held his head to the dome? Duke died because his pacemaker exploded inside him, all of the electronics in his hearing aid were outside his head and didn't exactly explode... that felt weakly written to me. Also, even though I understand the motivation to do so - I thought that Linda instructing Barbie to not let anyone approach and touch the dome and then immediately ignoring her order and going up to the dome and kissing her fiancee felt almost silly to me. I hope that the writing gets tightened up as the show continues....

  4. I'm not familiar with the book, but if it keeps on going like this Linda will soon become the unintentional comic relief in the show. Honestly, she has to be one of the most incompetent, most inconsistent characters on TV right now. Getting locked in a cell, having her coworker shot by another coworker, giving orders left and right and then ignoring them 2 scenes later... Not to mention that she is randomly handing out badges to anyone who impresses her. I don't even know..

  5. I'm not really sure why I keep watching. I don't think I've felt any of the episodes were more than 'OK' at this point.

  6. I thought the song and the montage that accompanied it was one of the high points of the episode.

  7. Oh for a "good" choice in these polls. It sure wasn't great but it was better than okay and better than the last two. I liked meeting the families although I am shocked that we didn't see Joe and his parents. I liked the montage at the end with the song. I liked seeing Dodee again and having her be helpful. Other than that it was mostly okay. I can't believe Evil Jim didn't tell Angie about taking shelter so she would die. He's as evil as his son.

  8. Agreed on all these problem points except for killing the Reverend. That I can excuse by it shattering his ear drum. Otherwise, the Angie thing was ludicrous like you say. Plus now that they are not dead, what's she going to do. Junior has a gun on her and she's trapped again. I swear she is brain dead sometimes. Also, why put a barrier at all? Why not just tell the people that if they touch the dome with any electronic devices they will die?

  9. I don't disagree with most of them, but given that Evil Jim has now given Junior the power to deputize lawmen, most of that is not on Linda. That's all on Evil Jim.

  10. Very likely the show hasn't cast anyone (yet? to play "Joe's" parents...or they did and their "meeting scene" was cut and meeting Norrie's long hidden/estranged biodad was inserted. I like that Dodee and Phil are very unlike their characters in book. In the book Junior was presented as always being dodgy but was getting crazier and more violent due to a growing brain tumor. In the TV version I don't think any reason has been given yet to explain his schizoid behavior and Dad Rennie was always "Evol".

  11. I guess my problem isn't so much the audience not seeing Joe's parents but with the way it felt like Joe didn't see him. His mom was one town away 6 days ago. I doubt she went on vacation. It seems like Joe would want to spend as much time as he could with his parents and not inserting himself in Norrie's parent drama. I mean he didn't even mention seeing them. That's too odd for me. Another case of characterization out the window.

I'm glad they have some reason for the problem in the book because as I have said before, they have not earned Junior's crazy. If even his dad is surprised that he's nuts, that's like instant psychosis and I don't buy that at all.

  12. Angie is stupid, i would rather have been dead all along then watch this of her, even tho i like the Actress. what did the writers like about her in episode 1 that they said ok we ill have more of her, but we will make her so miserable...

    other stuff all good.

i wish next episode they hear in the radio something like " why we no can destroy it? what this is?"...

on the other hand Joe stuff is good, the kid is actually smart.

  13. Good old Skeeter Davis, as the man said.

  14. I was very skeptical when Ifirst heard about the missile launch, so I'm glad the military had an actual reason to fire it at the dome.
"Well, if we're all gonna die today.. You might as well die a free woman." I was surprised Angie just stormed out of the bunker without asking Big JIm what he meant by that.. She could have saved herself a lot of trouble.

  15. Oh for a "good" choice in these polls.
I think they should replace great with good. Awesome and Grat are too similar in my opinion.

I can't believe Evil Jim didn't tell Angie about taking shelter so she would die. He's as evil as his son.
Agree. If it wasn't for missile launch, he probably would have left her down there.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agreed! And Angie told Big Jim that his son imprisoned her since 'last night' but it was at least 5 nights.Geez,i agree with all these problems, thanks for already stating them,ha!

  17. We really do need a good inserted between ok and great..

  18. I figured they were going to go with REM's End of the World (As We Know It), so this was a pleasant surprise - much better fit.

  19. Hmm, I'm going to have to rewatch it. I thought when she said last night, she was talking about how much time passed since Evil Jim first saw she was imprisoned. That made sense to me as he obviously had to have time to shut everything down and get the standing water out of the bunker.

  20. I agree that great should be replaced by good. In fact, most times when I vote great, I am really thinking good. I also agree about Evil Jim. I guess he might have imprisoned her somewhere else but I doubt he would let her roam free and now he and Junior will have to figure out what to do with her. I doubt Joe stops looking now that he has finally started.

  21. Joe is the shining beacon of light on this show, but he does his fair share of goofy things too. For instance not leaving enough time to get back to the shelter in his search for Angie. All in all though, he is my favorite character.

Junior, Angie, and Julia are on my hit list in that order. Junior doesn't make sense as a character to me. It's hard to feel sorry for Angie when she does such dumb stuff time and time again. Julia's plain annoying.

  22. Now i'll have to watch it again, what your saying makes more sense..

  23. In the press release for the episode Joe's parents are listed in the "guest starring", but maybe the scene was cut.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They did cast Joe's parents, as listed in the press release for this episode:
    Chip Lane (Joe’s Dad)
    Julie Kendall (Joe’s Mom)

I think the scene was cut.

  25. I thought we had heard something about that. I guess we'll have to wait for deleted scenes on the DVD release.

  26. Thanks for the info... I didn't read the PR for this episode. Maybe the actors will appear in a future episode.

  27. I couldn't recall if Joe even mentioned being eager to see his (and Angie's - in the book they were not siblings) parents (who as you said were one town away!) but you're correct of course, Joe never did, he only told Norrie he was worried that no one had seen Angie since the Dome came down. (IF I didn't know better I'd say Colin Ford has been infected with the "Sam Winchester Curse"... frequently perceived to be a 'bad bro and son', lol). He waved at a cousin but like the possibly cut scene with his parents, there was no scene of him actively communicating with his cousin. Yeah... that's weird.

Maybe the show feels it's already adequately fleshing out "Joe's character" but wanted to add another layer to Norrie's (who btw in the book was Joe's childhood friend already not from "out of town). But so far I like what the show's done with Norrie and her two "Moms". Caroline (Aisha Hinds ) was a "visiting character", too, and had a male partner, in the book but "Mom 2" (Samantha Mathis) was not a character. Caroline and her partner took in two other young kids who were stuck in the town (but I don't remember why).

Yes I agree, too, with the show not doing a very good job yet with explaining Junior's behavior ... perhaps that's something that will be revealed; in the book he was having severe headaches and nosebleeds from the beginning.

  28. I don't understand why everyone keeps hating this show. I think there is an odd correlation between a show being successful (as Under the Dome obviously is - one of the most successful shows of the last years, any way you decide to look at it) and people deciding to hate on it. Loved this episode and all the characters. So much happened. Love to discover more about them as the mystery of the dome is still there. A lot of tension on this one. Cool.

  29. We really do need a good inserted between ok and great,i really could have used it this past season!

    I actually think that's a Great idea...

When I feel an episode is "good" I either vote great or OK, but it's sometimes neither.... it's just "good"

  30. I agree that great should be replaced by good. In fact, most times when I vote great, I am really thinking good

Depending on how "good" I think an episode is I sometimes cast that vote to either great or OK, but often I feel neither is fitting.

I don't think Great should be replaced, because IMO, there is a distinction between Great and Awesome. I think adding a "good" between "ok" and "great" would be a better option.

  31. I liked it. It wasn't perfect but it was a good episode. I did like the quietness of it.

    - Julia still grates my nerves.
    - Poor Angie... though she was acting a little stupid there in the end. I get it but it wasn't smart.

    - Linda needed to stop with the macking at Rusty when she had just told Barbie to keep people away. That was unprofessional... and just setting a bad example.
    - Kinda glad the Rev is deaad, he was beginning to test my nerves. Wish Junior would follow his lead...

    - Dodee rocks! Phil too... I've mostly been indiferent to him, but this week, with picking out the music and seeing his sister and that moment with Barbie and the watch, I really liked him.

And that Dodee/Phil moment was precious.
    - Babrie's still my favourite.
    - Big Jim is still the most interesting character.
    - I really appreciated Joe finally going out looking for Angie and really being worried! 'Bout damn time.
    - Still not feeling Norrie and the Moms... I don't know, all three seem a little out of place to me. With them being out of towners that could be intentional, but it's just not working for me.

  32. Yes,that's exactly why we need it!

  34. I haven't been on an episode poll yet today so no!
    Must go see....

  35. Disclaimer: I know I'm months behind, but I'm catching this show on English TV and fancy jotting down my thoughts even if nobody reads this.

    Better episode this week.
We got some news from the outside (about China threatening to attack America, etc.)
We got a nice big explosion, and I wonder what the failed missile launch means for the military and the people under the dome.
We got rid of the reverend, who was a rubbish character and doing my nut right in.
We got some weird butterfly activity.
I like Barbie and I like Jim. Phil is shaping up into a good character too (he has had a generic token-black-guy vibe up until now).

Still not perfect though. Angie is a dumb bint, Linda is the worst sheriff imaginable and Norrie and her mums are a waste of screen time. Before You can accuse me of being a woman hater, I do happen to like Julia, and that Dodee girl was great today too (and really attractive as large girls go).

The writing needs to get a lot lot better. I fear that the reason I'm disliking the aforementioned characters is that they are badly written. For example, Linda telling people not to touch the dome and then going up to snog it - I don't think that was supposed to be a sign that her character is a hypocritical dumb-ass, I just think the writers weren't thinking straight.
