  1. I love Bethany Joy Lenz here

  2. "We are not gonna get anywhere until one of you starts talking" Funny.
Dexter was really angry. He even swore. Vogel was right. He was also deeply hurt. I think she finally gets to believe that he's not a complete sociopath.
"Family therapy. Who needs it?" Obviously Dexter and Deb.
"Serial killer busted by 100 pound nanny" LOL
It's so great to see Dex and Deb together again. Working together again like in the good old days. She didn't care that he killed that guy in front of her. I'm impressed. "A family that kills together" "If anyone would really knew us they would run screaming" This is so great! I think Deb finally accepted Dex for who and what he is.
Vinces daughter is cute. I like her hair.

  3. loved the episode! some great humor, great kill scene, really moved a lot of the characters forward imo... i love getting glimpses of 'normal' masuka. The only thing I didnt like was the preview for next weeks episode... I dont want that cocky little shit to know the code... something tells me he wont be able to hold to it like dexter... because, i think, (and hopefully what they are hinting at) is that dexter is a different kind of psycho/sociopath ... not entirely without empathy or conscience. I'm sure it will all work out in the end.. but first impressions and all, i dont like this kid.

  4. Great episode. Glad we got some resolution between Dex and Deb, those 2 are definitely the best relationship on the show and to see them at odds was hard. Loved Deb's line about "a family that kills together."

As for the killer, I have high doubts that the dude was the Brain Surgeon. Hopefully he'll keep showing up to make Dex (and Vogel) fret a bit. And I remember them saying they were planning on doing the Big Bad this season hidden like ITK was in the first season, so I'm guessing they're going to introduce us to the character before they are revealed to be the killer. Personally, I'm thinking its the hottie who is into Dex. Could be wrong, but just throwing it out there as a wild guess.

And I don't really care to learn about or watch this creepy kid get taught the code, but hopefully it won't be a long storyline. Bring back Hannah already!

  5. Some quick thoughts:

-Don't think Yates is the Brain Surgeon. He didn't acknowledge or admit to sending Vogal anything and didn't seem to no much about Dexter...

-I kind of think Nikki does need money, but I don't think she's a bad person. (justaposition to Mr. McKay) lately

-Zack Hamilton strikes me as a young Dexter and Jonah Mitchell. Kind of interested in what the promo for next week's episode suggested in relation to Dex and Zack.

Don't like Cassie much yet. I get a bad vibe about her, but Jamie's been so obnoxious lately that it's hard for me to judge Cassie.

Love how Deb felt so protective of Vogal and how she's starting to open up...."A Family that kills together,..." -The final scene on the boat was also a nice touch!

C.R. also really rocked it in this episode. I loved how Vogal just got up attempted to beat Yates into submission by possing as his mother.

(I think there were definitely references to "Pyscho/Bates Motel" (Norma F.) and Hannibal (Red Dragon) too! -The scene with digging up the bodies under the rose bushes also reminded me of "Rear Window")

  6. The relationship between Dex and Deb is the reason I want them to survive and go away with Harry and start a new life (with old habits like killing bad guys, of course). I'm not a sucker for happy endings. Just sometimes. In this case I am. I already said it and I will say it again … I love Dex and Deb together. As siblings or as a couple, I don't care. They are so great together!!!! It was hard for me too to see them fighting.
Of course he wasn't the surgeon. He was killing women and keeping their shoes as trophies. A result of what his mother did to him. His victims were beaten and tortured and then buried in his yard. All 3 or 4 victims of the surgeon were men. He removed parts of their brains and sent them to Vogel and let the corpses be found. The first two even in public, if I remember
    correctly.
His new neighbor? Hmmm. Well, she is a new character. But it would be a huge coincidence, if she moved in next to Dex, cause the surgeon is after Vogel. He just recently learned about Dex. So, if she is the surgeon, it's just a coincidence she moved in next to him. Her hitting on him now wouldn't be.
"Creepy kid"? guess you mean this idiot who's having a nice life with daddys money and not working one fucking day in his life? I don't like him. And I don't think he can be thought the code now. If he is a sociopath, it's too late for him. Dex was a kid. 7 or 8 years old, when
    Harry started teaching him.
Yes, they promised Hanna returning in midseason. Which should be ep 6 or 7. Her returning might be the last scene of next ep. I hope she's just passing thru. Don't get me wrong, I like her. But Dex and Deb just made up and I don't want psycho Hannah getting between them again.

  7. Of course he won't be able to live by the code. Dex was just a kid when Harry started teaching him. Dex lived his entire life by the code. This guy is a spoiled rich kid, he will never accept the code.
Agree. Dex is not a complete sociopath. He loves his son and Deb. He loved Rita and her kids … He does have feelings. If he wouldn't he wouldn't be hurt by Deb keeping him out of her life and trying to kill him …

  8. I agree Zack Hamilton comes with a bitter taste in my mouth too , but I also know better than to judge too quickly. His background, as KiarA also pointed out, does seem like a challenge in terms of Zack being able to accept the code...plus we don't know what his relationship to his own father exactly was, but on the Dexter side of things, I can see how this might be a last attempt/chance for Dex to teach someone young, who may very well need the code, the code....even though he probably shouldn't be so quick to think they killed the Brian Surgeon, let alone, start spending more time with Harrison...

But to have this young character is a nice tie-back to both young Dexter and Jonah Mitchell...

  9. I also don't think Yates is the Brain Surgeon. He didn't acknowledge that he was sending them things and he didn't seem to know much about Dexter. The thought had crossed my mind if the Killer IS someone we know (and I wonder if Vogal ever had any children of her own!)...If it's somebody we've met then we have met also think Cassie would be the logical choice!!

I'm kind of curios if Zack Hamilton can even work out and/or how it effects Dexter (fantasy of wanting to teach a child the code), but maybe he'll be a fall guy!

  10. I think Hannah will appear soon. I think they might be saving her for the second half/near end of the season for a reason...possibly for their spin off. As much as I would love a Lumen spin off, It would make more sense for Showtime/Dexter's writers to use someone from the final season as a lead in...

  11. Vogel playing the song that was playing during that video the Brain Surgeon made (Make Your Own Kind Of Music) seemed like a not-so-subtle clue that she might be the killer, but I'm not sure how it would work because Vogel is receiving post from him/her...

  12. Hannah will return next episode but for how long is the question. I have read rumors that say through episode 9 and others that say til the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ya. That's why I kind of let the idea that she could br the Brain Surgeon go and that most likely, this song, (a song us Losties know all to well), the Brain Surgeon knows she likes that song. (Maybe even played it when working on this patient.)

  15. I actually think this could lead to a big surprise about her: She may be schizophrenic, one side of her is a psychopath, the other side is a shrink that take care and write books about other psychopaths, this could be very interesting. But maybe, just maybe, I'm the psychopath here! lol

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Lostie inside of me really got excited by this! but even more by the probably-unintentional Joey's saying: "Family showing up like that... sometimes it's just because they want something... a fuc*ing kidney..."

    ReplyDelete
  17. I kept thinking she is very Hannibal Lector like. So I agree that there is still potential for her not to be quite right!! :)

Am I the only one who thought the Dex/Deb rekindling was... off? It felt a little rushed and a little too expositive "Your sister hit rock bottom", "I'm ok with watching you kill Yates" and so on, it felt like they were TELLING us everything was okie-dokie instead of the incredible scenes this storyline has given us SHOWING Deb's slowly accepting and understading her brother, and then the struggle on the past episodes. It didn't feel true at all that things got so "Aw yusss we're killer bro&sis now" all of a sudden, even though last week's car crash had this written all over it. I just expected that they'd go back around to each other a little slower after so much fighting, but maybe I'm wrong. Also, don't think that dude was the Brain Surgeon at all, even though he had the brain pieces, let us not forget this killer has framed people for his killings before. I'm really hopeful for the remainder of the season now that Deb and Dex are back together, since we can now focus on different stuff and start getting ready for the endgame, I like how Dex will be forced to try and teach the code to Zach because he can't kill him since Quinn saw him drug the kid (is it just me or it seems like the whole Miami Metro will know and support Dexter's behavior by season's end? People just keep finding out!), but I don't really think that's much promise in this. Also, WHERE THE HELL IS HANNAH? Time to come back and wreak some havoc, lady.

Also... MAAAAAKE YOOUR OOWN KIND OF MUUUUSIC. The Lostie in me went nuts singing along.

  20. So Hannah would be his finale choice? REALLY DISAPPOINTING if so, it's like Olivia from Fringe would have chose John Scott over Peter.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't know anything about what their relationship is going to be, if Hannah has returned for revenge or not, but my gut tells me that Dexter might not survive the series, because it is the most sensible thing for the writers to do IMO, because then Dex might still die a hero (saving his family perhaps), but then also he would no longer be able to make mistakes that could potentially keep putting those he loves in danger.

I could be wrong and they could let him live, but I think Micheal C. Hall wants to be done with role in terms of staring. If Hannah lives, it would make sense for her to have her own show and why they let the character roll over into the last segment of the series...

I think Dex will always choose Debra (except for perhaps Harrison) over everyone else, but because the there are elements from the 5th Dexter Novel in this season, I almost wonder if the series will end with Deb pregnant with either Quinn or Elway's child (Elway is almost like young version of Frank Lundy and both characters have elements of Deb's love interest in the novels, Kyle Chutsky, which is kind of ironic, because Dexter's season 4 alias of Kyle Butler...)

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was a little contrived, but I also think that this is the first time in a long long long time where Deb has been honest with herself and perhaps she really likes the way it feels--that's the only reason why I think her response to almost loosing Vogal was so strong, because Deb feels like she needs her. Vogal is like a mother that either of them have really yet to ever have, because Deb's mom was sick (cancer) and died and well, we all know what happened to poor Laura Moser.

Both myself and ShatteredOne also do not think Yates is the Brian Surgeon. He did not indicate that he sent her anything and knew very little about Dexter (including not even saying his name).

And yes hearing "Make Your Own Kind of Music" twice now this season surely pulled some LOSTy memories! -For a couple of seasons I had a theory that Dexter was 'darkly dreaming' this story and it's really all about Harry...This makes me a little more suspicious since 'the flashside ways' (and ethereal plane) is in itself a type of parallel or transitional reality between or along side the corporeal ones...

  23. Alan Martins Rodrigues30 July 2013 at 15:24

Yeah, it makes more sense when you put it this way, but the way they handled it made me feel uncomfortable through the whole episode. Also, there's an episode coming titled "Make Your Own Kind of Music", which makes me think by the then (I think it's episode 8x08 or 8x09) the Brain Surgeon will be back in focus.

I don't like to think Dexter (the show) would do something like that and I don't think I'd like that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well the show IMO already has a ridiculous element of "fate" along with the fact that IMO many of the characters (and names) are like fragmented or distorted representations of other characters (EX: Quinn is like what a young Harry might have been like. Jacob Elway is like what a young Frank Lundy might have been like, which these things then also play to the idea of Killer's M.O.'s such as "barrel girls" or "pieces of the brain" or sytlization of body chopping/body-part preserving)

I could see the show ending a few ways that I feel would be satisfying or make sense, including that this could all be Dexter wresting with 'The trouble with Harry' by imagining himself in his father's shoes...especially with what the first title of the novels are (Darkly Dreaming Dexter)...But I agree they probably will not take that kind of risk, which is why i feel more certain Dexter will die for a good cause instead. I just brought this other theory that has been rolling around in my head up, because IMO there are elements/themes through out the series that could point to that.

Note this song isn't the first possible LOST reference....I know sometime during the first season I believe "23" was either Brian's apartment number or the hotel number where Brian set up the room for Dexter. (Room 13 = experimentation/behavior modification. 23 = Jack = Death = transitional state of existence between life time = life extension, more than one, and one kind of, existence...) I'll get back to you and confirm that, but I remember writing it down.
