NCIS - Season 11 - Gary Glasberg interview on Cote de Pablo's exit - "I can't replace her"

TV Fanatic: You probably heard what Les said this morning about basically giving de Pablo a truck full of money to stay but she’s still leaving…

Gary Glasberg:
That is absolutely true. I think I was quoted many times months ago saying that I was positive that this was going to work out and I really was. To get to the point where we were a few days before prep and to suddenly be thrown what happened, I had to gut everything and start all over again.

The storyline where we left Gibbs [in the season finale] still plays but basically the first two episodes are this interwoven storyline of the Gibbs story and now the Ziva story and the second episode she plays very prominently in and then that’s her last episode.

So I locked myself away and I came up with this storyline and I’m pleased with it. I think it will be satisfied for all the fans but the Tony-Ziva fans especially. Look, she’s a part of this group and a part of this family and team but everybody respects this decision and we’ve got to move on.

She’s in the first two [episodes] and then…I feel like there’s a mourning period that has to happen. I can’t just put somebody else in there. As I’ve said to many people, I can’t replace her, I can’t replace Ziva David but what I can do at some point I can find someone who fills a new void and something new that adds to the group.

I think we’re going to take a nice long break, basically, and let the team in the show as well as the cast adjust to what’s happened but eventually Vance is going to look at that desk and say ‘it’s empty and we have to fill it.’ And then we’ll find somebody.

Out of all my friends, I'm the only one that seems to think the series will go on just fine without Ziva..

  3. So it is going to be like Bones with squinterns. I think this approach could be a lot of fun for awhile. Well as long as they don't have the characters moping around over Ziva for too long.

  4. I believe the same thing. The show will go on without her & will be fine. It did when Kate was gone, It did when Jenny was gone & it will with Ziva gone.

  5. OMG, what is up with them today? They can't seem to stop talking about it. They are really going out of their ways to show that a) it wasn't their fault; b) they are just soooo sad about it; c) they love Ziva and Cote, which is basically a way of screaming to the fans: we love Ziva too, don't stop watching the show.

  6. So okay, does everyone feel better? Now stop talking about it and get to work, you have a show to put on!

  8. Well, it's TCAs time, which means interviews and stuff, and this is pretty much all anyone is asking about.

  10. So several episodes is now two. This is the ep Mossad shows up again. Makes no sense for Ziva to go back there permanently. GG says it's Ziva's decision so she shouldn't be losing her citizenship either to explain going back. Don't know how this will be good fot TIVA fans.

  11. Maybe, but difference for many of us is that Kate waa only around for 2 yrs, and Jenny 3 or 4. We' ve invested alot more into this character and so has the show. I don' t want to see the show tank, but I'm not too interested in the upcoming story lines either.

  12. I guess it's really going to depend on how much you like Ziva for me she is my favorite part of the show she is my favorite character and even though that took a while its a fact. I don't think the show will be the same or as good for me personally but thats not to say the show won't survive. I personally will not be as eager to see it without Ziva and I'm sure their are others out there who feel the same way I do. I still think they could have done more to keep her but in the end tptb cared more about money than the show it's self and the fans.

  14. They could answer that all has already been said and that their focus now is on making na amazing new season. I know it is Cote's decision, but they are taking EVERY chance they get to make it very clear and to paint themselves as the good, Ziva-loving, guys.

They say they can't replace her, but the things is at some point they will be introducing another female character to the show.

  16. Since my favorite character is Tony, I just don't want to see him get his heart ripped out (metaphorically speaking) by Ziva leaving. It doesn't sound like that's going to happen, so I think I can watch now. I will still be sad, still miss Ziva/Cote being on my tv screen every Tuesday night, but it looks like the producers are handling it the best they can.

  17. at least you know it wasn't a money issue they offered her Brinks truck to stay she just wants to pursue a movie career and that's fine she is a beautiful woman and could nab any roll even as a secret agent maybe she can be a Bond girl, she is hot enough
