“I really want to clarify: We offered Cote de Pablo a lot of money — and then we offerered her even more money,” CBS Corp. president and CEO Les Moonves shared Monday morning at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “We really didn’t want to lose her, we love her. We think she’s terrific. We obviously were in discussions… and ultimately she decided she didn’t want to do the show. It was her decision. We don’t like losing anybody. We did everything humanly possible [and] exhausted every opportunity, and she just decided she didn’t want to do the show.”

I don't believe a word out of his mouth regarding this situation I'd believe it if Cote said anything, but not him.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! LM opens his mouth, out spills untruths. Have seen it over and over again....That being said, I sure wish she wasn't leaving! I adore her.
ReplyDeleteCote has said that she chose to leave and since that has been her statement from the get go, I believe that. I will miss her, but hey if she has in the end chosen to leave then that is her decision. Now can we let this go and move on.
ReplyDelete''It wasn't MY fault!''
ReplyDelete- Everyone in show biz. Pfft.
I do believe she was the one who decided not to renew her contract. So be it.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's on her :(
ReplyDeleteI don't know Les Moonves, so I'm not going to call him a liar, as some here are doing. If you think about it, it makes no sense to blame CBS. If they "fired" Cote, as some claim, CBS would have made darn sure to wrap up her storyline before the end of the season to tailor her leaving into an amazing season finale. She's the one who dragged her contract negotiations along to the last minute for whatever reason. I believe Cote wanted to leave. If you're offered a huge raise and you want to stay in a job, you stay.
ReplyDeleteMoones can say what he wants but there has got to be more to this. You don't walk from a show two weeks before it goes back into production when everyone(including you) seem to be eager for the following season. That screams contract failure. It may not have been money though, it could easily have come down to 'one year contract'. Networks HATE 'one year contract' and actors on long running series usually end up asking for them. One year contract would have brought Cote's renewal negotiations in line with the others. If they all request one year contracts, they renegotiate as a group every year. And then things get expensive.... Think 'Friends' final season.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere, in between all the articles we have read is the truth, although we may never know it.
That being said. Now is probably the best time for CdP to walk, career wise anyway. Actresses have a limited self-life in Hollywood and after you hit the ripe old age of 35 you're pretty much past it. You're then resigned to playing cops, lawyers and doctors. If you want to branch out you've got to get it going before you hit expiry. Sad but true.
I'll miss seeing her every week and I look forward to her other projects. I only hope she can return for the series finale.
Alex
I think his comments are really rude.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of BULL CRAP! They didn't do everything humanly possible and when ratings drop they'll know it. I loved all the characters we've lost but I really feel like losing Ziva will affect the show much more than anyone else's departure. And if my understanding is correct she was asking for the same salary Michael Weatherly had and I think she more than deserves it. For as much as they focused on Ziva over the last few years especially this last season she should at least be making that much. I really don't want to think that CBS's sole reason for paying her less is because she is female but this isn' the first time CBS has been paying female casts less than their male counter parts.
ReplyDeleteThis actually sounds pretty in line with what people have been saying to me. Is it the full story? Of course not. You can't get the full story without having both sides, but it doesn't seem like he's lying. That is likely the studio's view. CBS wouldn't want to lose anything that changes the dynamics of their most popular show. In the end, an actress and a studio could not agree on terms. It happens. I wish both Cote de Pablo and NCIS the very best.
ReplyDeleteslowly i doubt the show. they killed kate. they killed jenny and now they will kill ziva. it sucks. really. I mean I get that actresses/actors want to work different projects but hey ... they killed all female coworkers so far. so one more or less ...
ReplyDeleteOne never knows exactly what went on behind closed doors, but obviously both parties had something to do with how everything went down. What we do know is that hey offered her a raise, then a bigger raise when the first was not large enough. That shows they wanted her.
ReplyDeleteShe choose not to accept it. In the end it's all on Cote de Pablo.
It would be best if both sides shut up about this from now on, which will be difficult because Les Moonves likes to shoot his mouth off.
ReplyDeleteWell, clearly Cote wanted to stay since she held out until the end, so you didn't do everything humanly possible.
ReplyDeleteEverything humanly possibly except giving her equal pay right? *rme* And so the smear campaign begins...It's so sad too to that the rest of the cast are keeping quiet. PP even ranted about it on Twitter whereas when the whole Criminal Minds fiasco was going on, Kristen Vangsness was openly critical of the brass. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteShe was in negotiations with them for months so she must have wanted to stay otherwise why not say right away she didn't want to renew.
ReplyDeleteShe obviously asked for something they weren't willing to give her.
Pay parity. She wanted to get the same amount as Michael, who has been on the show since the first season. She was offered 225,000 while he gets 250,000, and he has been on the show for two more seasons than her. She would be getting more than anyone else except for Michael and Harmon.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It has been decided, both parties have talked about it, done.
ReplyDeleteIt's Les Mooves and he is usually a bit of a dick, but I do think that he isn't really lying about the facts of the situation.
ReplyDeleteI believe they did everything humanly possible they were wiling and it was sensible for the network to do. One can't have expected them to bend to her every demand... that's bad (and stupid) business...
ReplyDeleteYep. Continuing to keep this topic of conversation alive is definitely a lose-lose situation.
ReplyDeleteI think Cote was in the mindset of wanting to leave, and in that point, only a certain amount of money compensates keep doing something you are ready to move on.
ReplyDeleteI totally get it, and I get CBS doing sensible business.
Yes,her people were in negotiations for months and we will never know exactly what happened, there are two sides to every story. With that being said it was Cote who had the final say,she is the one who turned down the offer, not her manager,or agent,or lawyer,it was her.
ReplyDeleteIf she really did want equal pay, same as Micheal she should have known she would never get it.Michael was there from the get go,before NCIS even started, when they were introduced on JAG in a two part special.
Its to bad her character is ending this way and i will miss her,but it was her decision.
It's called getting sick of being jerked around in contract negotiations that get dragged out for 6 months and just saying f*** it.
