MOVIES: Batman and Superman Movie - Tyler Hoechlin Up For Batman

Jul 24, 2013

Regarding the new Batman, Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf, Lincoln Heights, 7th Heaven, Road To Perdition) is being heavily considered for the part and will be getting a screen test alongside Henry Cavill. Warner Bros. and Snyder are looking at somebody to play the new Batman with a reputation similar to Cavill's, when Cavill was testing for Superman. It's also said that better known actors could also be testing for the role. As filming is expected to begin in early 2014, screen tests should be happening soon.

  1. Oh my God. I wasn't really interested in this movie before, but if he's cast, I am!

  2. Not my first thought but not bad

  3. Never actually seen him in anything to my knowledge, but he definitely looks a lot like Bruce Wayne. And he's surprisingly young - I didn't expect them to consider anyone under 30. With a bit more muscle, he'd be perfect. I really hope they choose him - I'd rather they didn't go with somebody who's already well-known. Let's get some fresh blood into the movie industry, people!

  4. Not a bad choice but I think, he's too young. My choices would be

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Joe Manganiello, Guy Pearce, Anson Mount or Michael Fassbender.

  5. I don't know why but ...too young? maybe i have to watch him now, i only remember him as Alexis' violin teacher in Castle lol

  6. I think Guy Pearce's too old. Also he and Michael Fassbender already star in fellow comic book movie franchises.

  7. Before you mentioned that Castle episode I didn't even know who he was lol. Definitely not as recognized as Cavill.

  8. Respect for the actor, but please no.

  9. I like Tyler but i just cant see it? We will see though he is not casted yet. He was up for test screen with Henry Cavill right?

  10. Noooo.... the new Batman has to be Jim Caviezel....... ;)

  11. You should see him in Teen Wolf... trust me he has enough muscle and he can play the brooding type.

I haven't really though about him as Batman ever but being a fan of Teen Wolf and considering it a bit more he's actually quite fitting for the part.

  12. lol i know he's on Teen Wolf but i don't watch that show so i've only really watched him on Castle, and yes, not as recognized as Cavill for me at least!

  13. I agree he's too young but the superman actor is young and i think they want them about the same age. Personally I probably won't watch if they cast him.

  14. "Better Known Actors"?? how is Tyler Hoechlin not included in that. Yeah i know hes a B-List actor, but he is still a great actor. Its sad they might make him shave his beard, but the good part is, hell be a whole lot better than the "Barely Audible Batman".

  15. yeah, only 4 years... but i don't know i can't see him as batman for now lol

  16. Don't let the fan goggles bias you. Hoechlin is definitely going places, but he is still has ways to to to be a household name.

Personally,I do like the idea of him being batman, even if he is young.

  18. Actually he's 7 years older than Bale. I think the appearance is an important factor and Pearce doesn't look so old. You're right they starred in comic book movie franchises but I just wanted to mention who could be "Batman type actors" :) For instance, Jim Caviezel would be a perfect "Bond" :)

I am feeling very schizophrenic here about these developments. On the one hand I have lots of faith in Nolan and Goyer. Zach Snyder has been a little more hit and miss but I count myself as one of the people that really liked Man of Steel so I have lots of faith in his direction for a sequel.

That being said I find myself very troubled by this Batman vs Superman thing. I thought this was supposed to be a Man of Steel sequel: a Superman movie. Not a Superman AND Batman movie. We've had three very good Batman movies. I want more Superman movies before we get a great partnership movie.

I'm also iffy on the casting rumors. Christian Bale is on record for saying he won't play Batman again. Fair enough. I can respect that. My preference would be for Bale to play Batman but if this doesn't happen then for the sake of some form of story/character continuity; Joseph Gordon Levitt should play Batman. If either of these two actors can't or won't play Batman in the upcoming movie then I find myself leaning towards preferring that Batman not be in the Man of Steel sequel. Otherwise the Dark Knight stories are diluted as is Man of Steel with audiences learning to accept Batman all over again.

    Feeling very schizophrenic about this.

Oh and Tyler Hoechlin? Hell no. Nobody associated with anything that resembles Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries or anything CW esque should be allowed within miles of this.

  20. Too young and too "pretty". I like it that he is handsome and all, but he has much more of a superman look than Batman. Batman should look older and a little bit more tormented. I never pictured Batman as a conventional pretty boy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree and would like to have Nikolaj as Batman. I agree that he is too Young and I think he is also too conventionally pretty (not that I don't like pretty and I do think that he is hot, but in a conventional kind of way).

  22. As much as I like the idea of a new guy taking on the role of batman, I just can't see Nolan accepting a B (C, D?) list actor like Hoechlin after Bale.

    ReplyDelete
  23. B, his acting skills are good, but not a common household name unless you watch Teen Wolf. Though he did play the violin instructor for Alexis on the show "Castle" in season 2 episode 4 "Fool Me Once" before he was on Teen Wolf. And he played martin brewer on 7th heaven between 2003 and 2007.

  24. yes! and i see Batman a bit older than superman? i don't really know why lol but it feels weird to see him this young.

    Caviezel is too old.

  26. I do watch Teen Wolf, but he has yet to show anything that could really be compared to the performance of Bale in the same role. Don't take me wrong, I have nothing against the guy, but he is not really showing much of anything talent wise on TW. That being said, his character doesn't really get a chance to shine either as he is either getting mauled by some random new character (seriously, has he ever won a fight vs anyone on that show? :P) or he is brooding in a dark corner all alone.

  27. Do not shoot me but is okay that I see Tyler more as "Terry" than I do "Bruce"?
I mean with all the "Batman Beyond Live action" rumor flying about...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Give Nikolaj EVERYTHING!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think I need a clarification: did Bale say hell never play Bruce too?
Cause that would be an interesting distinction...

    ReplyDelete
  30. or he is brooding in a dark corner all alone

To be fair.... that is a very Batman/Bruce thing to do, and again to be fair, Tyler doesn't do that bad a job at it....

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is actually SO COOL! I wish him luck!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I highly doubt this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Never heard of nor seen this guy before, but he does kind of got the look down.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i love it. he does broody very well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. His "brooding" is more like trying to look both angry and sad at the same time with puppy eyes. Again, I have nothing against him, but the source material for batman is incredibly rich and I simply do not believe that he is a good enough actor to really show us all the different sides of the character.

Works for me, personality wise they are identical characters anyway...except that Batman mostly succeeds at what he does while Derek...

    ReplyDelete
  37. NOOOOOOOOO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I won't disagree that's how he plays "brooding Derek" but that is how Derek broods. But Tyler's range of brooding could be quite bigger....

My main argument is he does act well on Teen Wolf.
I remember watching him on 7thH and thinking he's sooooo untalented (and okay that went for the majority of that cast, but I mean you could tell even under all that crap that Stephen Collins is a decent actor).
Frankly his presence on Teen Wolf was one of the main reasons why it took me so long to get into TW. I just didn't want to sit thought his performance. But when I did randomly catch some episodes of the show and I saw that he wasn't a stick in the mud I was taken aback. And as I watch the show I see that he can also be quite subtle and has range in his performance.

To me Tyler is one of those actors, who is fairly decent on his own, but can really shine under the right director and the right material. I think that's the main reason why he hasn't managed to "break through" and "prove" himself yet.

  39. Hmm, I may have to actually see this movie after all. Let's hope that if he is cast, it will not cut into any Derek time on Teen Wolf.
