Maron - Renewed for a 13-episode second season!

Jul 23, 2013

IFC will remain in business with comedian Marc Maron.

The AMC Networks-owned channel has ordered a 2nd season of its critically adored comedy series, Maron. In a vote of confidence, the order is for 13 half-hours, up from 10 in season 1. They are slated to premiere in 2014.

Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC, said : "In many ways, Marc is a perfect representation of IFC and our approach to comedy. He also seems to be in need of a less dysfunctional family, so we're happy he's returning to ours for an expanded second season."

The series' début season chronicled the comedian's misguided attempts to grow professionally and emotionally with both an estranged dad (Judd Hirsch) and later on an unconventional new girlfriend (Nora Zehetner).

Maron, who is best known for his popular WTF podcast, was able to lure guest stars such as Mark Duplass, Jeff Garlin, Dave Foley, Danny Trejo, Illeana Douglas, Eric Stoltz, Denis Leary, Gina Gershon, KEN JEONG, AUBREY PLAZA AND ADAM SCOTT.

M. Maron is the creator / exec producer / writer / star of the show, with Denis Leary & Jim Serpico as producers.

Source.

Watch this show if you haven't, I highly recommend it. Probably the best new comedy of 2013, tied with FX's Legit.

IFC has recently started airing the 20-episode second season of fake talk show Comedy Bang Bang, which also comes from a famous podcaster (Scott Ackerman) and it's also quite brilliant, in a more absurdist, deadpan, meta way than Maron. Comedy Bang Bang airs every Friday at 10/9c on IFC ; there'll be a five-week hiatus between 13th September (episode 2.10) and 18th October (episode 2.11), but other than that, CBB season 2 airs original episodes every week straight through the semester, up until the season finale on 20th December.

The main guests on Scott's couch for the first 10 episodes are Andy Samberg, AZIZ ANSARI, Anna Kendrick, David Cross, Zoe Saldana, GILLIAN JACOBS, Andy Richter, Sarah Silverman, Bill Hader and Casey Wilson!

Some sequences include other people you know and love, such as Lance Reddick, Selma Blair, Adam Pally, Nick Kroll, Christopher Meloni, BEN SCHWARTZ, Will Forte, Tim Meadows, Bob Odenkirk, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Paul F. Tompkins, John Carroll Lynch, Jason Mantzoukas, Chris Hardwick, ADAM SCOTT, Michael Ian Black, Rob Huebel, Joe Lo Truglio, Adam DeVine, Michaela Watkins, Aidy Bryant, Bobby Moynihan, Jimmy Pardo and Thomas Lennon!

Yes, you should watch this show too.

  1. So, how is this post related to Community or Parks and Rec?

  2. I wondered the same thing. But it says that some of the guest stars include Ken Jeong, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam Scott.

  3. Well sorry, I guess? There are other people, me included, who actually do care what other shows actors I love from shows I love pop up in. I mean I'll be at least giving this thing a shot purely because those 3 actors are in it and I wouldn't have otherwise known about it unless it was tagged.

Simple solution for you is to just ignore it.

  4. The point of the STVPlus for me was that I select what shows I want to hear about, and yet I am still getting posts in my feed about shows I don't watch. If I was to apply the "ignore it" method, then I wouldn't be using STVPlus.

Also, I have been coming to SpoilerTV for a few years now, and almost everytime the post are only tagged with the show(s) they are directly related to, which is how I like it.

  5. As ShatteredOne says, it's because of these three actors appearing in the show.

And it's because people "neither watch nor care about Maron" that this show doesn't have a proper "tag" on SpoilerTV (also, it's not one of those shows where teenagers go crazy with spoilers and such).

Therefore, one of the ways to get people interested in Maron is to tell them about actors of their favorites comedies doing a guest spot here.

Maybe other people do care to know that Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza and Ken Jeong appear in this. I'm a Community/Parks & Rec fan, and I'd like to know if main actors of these two shows appear on other comedies, maybe I'm not alone.

I could have just copy/paste The Hollywood Reporter with just the "Misc Shows" tag but I'm not a robot and I'm trying to add a bit of value to the post. Otherwise, people just bookmark RSS feeds on The Hollywood Reporter, TVLine and such and there's no need to come on SpoilerTV.

You should open up to more comedies, maybe you'd like Maron if you gave it a try ;). I wasn't a fan of Marc Maron or his podcast either.

  6. I've been coming here for many years as well, and I'm fairly certain that say an actor on a show does a guest spot on a show then both the actor's main show and the show on which he/she is doing a guest spot will be tagged. For example, say Danny Pudi was guest starring on NCIS, then both Community and NCIS would be tagged. It's just how it is.

  7. When you give an example like that, the most recent post that comes to my mind is about Natalia Zea appearing on Under the Dome. I just checked and in that post only Under the Dome is tagged, not The Following, and that post was made by the site owner.

  8. Bunky Bunk will sometimes add tags to his posts to drum up interest for a favorite show of his. I remember he tagged one post with Supernatural last year just because it was super popular on SpoilerTV when the only thing about SPN in the post was how he hoped SPN fans would watch the show he was promoting. It doesn't happen very often so this should be an exception and not a rule on your feed.

  9. Huh, well I guess it happens both ways then. I can't think of a specific time, but I know I have seen it done like in the example I described. Could be just how certain people post/tag things on here. But as Dahne said, this doesn't happen very often so it likely won't be much of an issue other than this instance.

  10. That SPN thing was a little joke, and I clearly stated so in the post back then.

This is different, I genuinely think Community and Parks & Rec fans would be interested in knowing what many cast members are up to when they're not filming some of our favorite comedies. Discovering new shows connected to your favorites should be something most people would be interested in, imo. If Jensen Ackles appeared in Maron, would you like to know about it or not?

  11. I remember it being posted at the very bottom so people had to read through the entire long article only to discover you were promoting your shows and I thought that it was only explicitly stated at the beginning that there was nothing about Supernatural in it once a lot of people complained, but I could be wrong about that.

However, yes I do think that many people are interested in other shows their favorites are appearing in and yes, I do like to know what other shows Jensen and Jared are in. I do think that the article could make it clearer to people earlier that the only connection it has to Community and Parks and Recs is some guest stars. Then if people do not wish to read about the other shows, they don't have to even if you feel they would really like them. It would feel less like a bait and switch if it were.

  12. "Therefore, one of the ways to get people interested in Maron is to tell them about actors of their favorites comedies doing a guest spot here."

I think this is exactly what Angie has a problem with. Perhaps adding an opening paragraph explaining that several actors from Community and Parks & Rec have guest starred on these shows would avoid the confusion. She has the right to expect that articles tagged with Community and Parks & Rec will be primarily about those shows and not hawking other shows to get people to watch them.

  13. I often will use tags of other shows when those shows lead actors are appearing in British TV movies, mini-series or series..

I also like the cross referencing of actors that way. I have discovered quite a few series because of actors from other series I like.

I think the cross-referencing of tags like that is justified and only serves to help others find new and different shows they may like.

  14. My completely honest opinion (I am truly sorry if I hurt any feelings, but I just want to express my opinion): I don't bookmark or RSS any feeds besides SpoilerTV. Simply because this site gathers all the information I can get (and can't get) from other sources so I don't have to. They do it quickly (often earlier and faster than other sites), and straight to the point. You writing your personal opinions pushes the time of publish further than other sites, and I want my information ASAP. I use this site as a news-gathering source, and not for staff's personal opinions. Half of this entire article is you spreading your personal opinions about a different (!!!) show than the one in the topic! I would so much rather that the staff have their own opinion-post each month, where you can express everything you'd like in one topic with an appropriate title so people can choose to read it or not, instead of tricking us into reading it based on us expecting to find something in the tags that's not really there. The best thing (in my opinion, that is) would actually be to keep it strictly related to what the news is. "It's been renewed? Great, how many episodes? Fantastic!" That's really all the questions I have that I want answered. If I want other people's opinions, I'll ask for it. Please don't shove it in my face...

And what about my opinions? I'm not able to express them the same way that you are. You reach so many more people with your posts than the comments section ever could. I would like to tell everyone to watch Devious Maids on Lifetime, but I do not have the same powers as you since you are the poster here.

I may be the only one with this opinion (I hope I'm not, but maybe I am) but I just wanted to express this. Thanks for your time! :)
