Borgia isn't the only Canal+ original series coming to an end in 2014 : it was officially announced that the upcoming fifth season of mob drama Mafiosa will be its last.

Like the previous four seasons, season 5 will have eight 52-minute episodes. They were written by Aurélie Teisseire and Pierre Leccia, who also directed the season.

Filming in Paris and Corsica is underway since 27th May. It will end in 4 months, around late September/early October, with the season premiering early 2014, like Borgia season 3 and Engrenages (Spiral) season 5.

Synopsis : Released from prison, Sandra is on her own. She hears rumors that her clan is plotting against her, and that her loyal lieutenants are planning on taking her out. Sandra tries to stand tall against those underlying threats, but for how long?

Starring :

- Hélène Fillières as Sandra.
- Phareelle Onoyan as Carmen.
- Eric Fraticelli as Tony.
- Jean-Pierre Kalfon as Toussaint.
- Véronique Volta as Saudade Canarelli.
- Jean-Philippe Ricci as Damiani.
- Denis Braccini as Quilitchini.
- Bruno Magne as Brasseur.
- Linda Hardy as Livia.

Series regular Frédéric Graziani has passed away in March 2013. In December 2012, he had been summoned by the Correctional tribunal of Paris to answer about his role in the Wagram circle, a case where his name was listed alongside notorious Corsican bandits. He was accused of "criminal conspiracy", and then was discharged... This is currently still an on-going case. His role of Manu has been recast and it will now be played by Phillipe Corti.

Asia Argento (picture above) will be co-starring in this final season. She plays a key character named Charlie.

Daughter of Dario Argento, she has appeared numerous times in French cinema before, in period dramas (La Reine Margot, Les Misérables miniseries, Une vieille maitresse), as well as action films (Les morsures de l'aube, La sirène rouge, Boarding Gate, Diamant 13) and comedies (Transylvania, De la guerre, Do Not Disturb).

She was seen in her father's horror films too, such as Dèmoni 2, La chiesa, Trauma, La sindrome di Stendhal, Il fantasma dell'opera, La terza madre and Dracula. Still waiting for her to be in a good one.

Argento appeared in American movies as well, such as xXx, George Romero's Land of the Dead, Gus Van Sant's Last Days, Sofia Copolla's Marie Antoinette, Abel Ferrara's New Rose Hotel and Go Go Tales. Furthermore, she starred in a film she wrote and directed, The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things.

She's also very classy. Still, that's a big name to get a regular role for.

Other newcomers include Philippe Corti (as mentioned above), Carlo Brandt and Dominique Valadié.
