Starz have renewed Black Sails for a 2nd Season. This comes before the first episode has even aired :)

    I love it when networks have strong enough faith in their new series to renew it before it airs!
    Plus, I actually want to watch this series and knowing it will be renewed makes it less stressful! XD

    If I'm remembering right, they did the same thing with Magic City (which I seriously need to catch up with someday soon).

    I'm looking forward to this pirate show. Sex, violence and pirates you can't beat that. Only problem with renewing so fast is if it doesn't live up to the expectations of the viewers. They did it with Magic City which I am loving season2, but slowly re-watching season 1 and it seems nothing more than nudity, sexploitation of the women and very bad writing.

    I feel the same way about Magic City.
    At first I thought it had some potential but the characters and writing never really grew on me. It seems so... simple... pedestrian.

    I've been disappointed in almost every single Starz original series. Even the BBC/Starz collaborative version of Torchwood was junk. This network's track record prevents me from mustering up any enthusiasm for this project.

    It's such a "Starz" thing to do though.... and I know the budget thing is a huge incentive, how many shows have lived up to that expectation though, besides Spartacus?

    It's a common policy of starz to renew so early though. So I'm not sure it's entirely based on faith in the show or if it's just just how the network operates these days...


    But you're right knowing that one can watch S without fretting about S2 is somewhat of a relief...

    I still love Spartacus, and I think Boss was a very interesting study in politics and corruption but both even both of those shows were faulty (well Spartacus was mostly unlucky than it was faulty - because I think if Andy was still there and had carried on the gravitas from the first season the rest would be just as awesome, not merely good and enjoyable - but that's besides the point...).
    SO yeah I get your point about no having too much faith, but they do make pretty and ambitious stuff, and IMO the base ideas are good. All those things they throw on the wall one of them has to stick... right?

    The law of averages would indicate such. Although, since Starz is the "great idea, poor execution" network, they may want to dial back their ambition until they find some creators who can really follow through for them.

    Personally I think they should entrust Steven S. DeKnight with another show just to see if the guy is as good or if he just got lucky.


    (Though, I think, the fact alone that Spartacus managed to survive even through the Andy Whitfield tragedy says a lot about the quality of the show as a whole, and DeKnight's abilities as a writer and a showrunner.)

    Oh the cast helped out with the show MAJORLY, especially during the transition. I will not argue with that!
    But I believe, for a show like Spartacus good actors can only do so much. The source material needs to be there...

    I watched 3 episode of Magic City but gave up when I realized I had no emotional investment in any of the characters ... I do still love starz originals though and will definitely watch this.
