So far his significant girlfriends have been Laurel (who he has almost no chemistry with), Helena (remarkably unhinged), and McKenna (shot by Helena). I'm fairly certain that adding extra notches to his bedpost is the last thing on his mind when falling for someone.
I think "Sane and knows his secret" just about sums up his girlfriend preferences.
I'm just saying the writers of the show are pairing him up with nearly every female (friend) he comes across, it's getting annoying. I would prefer it if they just stayed friends. Also, no need to down vote for just adding my two cents. :)
I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but the chemistry between those two really can't be denied. If I had to rank them from best to worst it would have to be Felicity (by a lot), Helena (their chemistry exploded rather than sizzled), Mckenna (their chemistry was more cute than anything else) and Laurel (their chemistry is a lot better during intimate scenes, but nonexistent in everything else).
And I didn't downvote you. A single mouse click to express an opinion always felt so lazy to me.
I agree with you on both points. I dislike down voting because I'd rather hear why people disagree with what I say and just leaving a comment stimulates more discussion! So I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me! :)
And I agree on the chemistry as well, it's undeniably there. Which is why I see them pulling the trigger, even if I think they shouldn't. You can chalk that up to personal preference though.
But if, down the line, they want to do it and it is written well I suppose it could work. I'm happy to be proven wrong!
I've seen video interviews with her before and she seemed a bit nervous and awkward then as well. I think she's still getting used to all the attention from her first big job.
This is the only interview out of Comic-Con that I couldn't wait until later to watch. I'm impressed by how well Stephen knows the show since he basically quoted one of Felicity's lines from midseason last year. Most actors can't do that. Other than that, not any info we haven't already heard but it's good to hear them talk Arrow again together.
Ha! It's sad when you have to add "sane" to the list of what you're looking for in a girlfriend. Personally I would rather see Oliver build his non-romance relationships more in this season (sister, co-workers, etc.), so I don't want him to get with anyone.I feel there is plenty of interesting story for his character without always going back to romance for the drama.
The only other actor I've come across who has that kind of recall and textbook knowledge of their show is Joseph Morgan on The Vampire Diaries. It's eerie how well he knows that show... which he is no longer on.
That's a solid guess. Yes, as far as I remember, a producer did mention two significant new villains this season. If Arrow deemed it okay to announce Glau before Comic Con and not at the event, I can only imagine what rabbit they might pull out of their collective hat this evening.
Does he play Klaus? I haven't seen TVD since season 1 but his name sounds very familiar. If that's the case then he'll get to show off his encyclopedic knowledge at next year's Comic-Con for The Originals season 2....if the hopes and financial cliff hugging of the CW has anything to say about it.
I love when actors know their own shows enough to remember episode titles, key scenes, etc. It makes it feel more like they are part of the fan community too. I know it is impossible for actors to know shows as well as fans do but it sometimes feels like some only know what happened in their own scenes, like they have never seen the whole episode and that saddens me. It is getting better though with the advent of stars live tweeting episodes.
That's got me really excited to. Summer Glau is a huge get, no matter what I think of her acting, so I was shocked that they announced it before Comic-Con. My guess is that because she was in the premiere, they didn't think they could keep it under wraps and therefore decided to lead the fanfare. Still, it makes it feel like something huge is in the works. I know...Amanda Tapping just died on Supernatural so maybe she can show up too.
Funny you should mention Tapping. I was just thinking that she would have been a great alternative to Audrey Marie Anderson in her role as Lyla Michaels last season.
"if the hopes and financial cliff hugging of the CW has anything to say about it." You get an up-vote just for that line alone.
I too am very appreciative when actors take the time to study and dissect the shows they're on. Not necessarily for the community aspect of it but because a lot of people think of roles on genre projects as just a paycheck and don't take it very seriously. When people like Morgan and Amell take the time to immerse themselves into their projects like they do it shows that they respect the material and their role in it.
Well, it is Arrow we're talking about and Oliver can't seem to walk ten feet without falling into someone's bed so I think having him not get with anyone is too lofty a goal to set.
My preference for Oliver's relationship, in regards to Felicity, this season is that they simply grow closer, learn more about each other, and build trust. Intimacy isn't simply about jumping in the sack with someone and Oliver has done plenty of that. There's a lot to be said for two people who know each other extremely well and the comfort and intimacy that builds from that.
I'm not sure if she's one of the announcements. Maybe the character she's playing would be the big announcement but Lotz herself isn't known enough to warrant the word "big" imo.
I am actually fine with him bed hopping as much as he wants as long as I don't have to see the aftermath. No more episodes that practically revolve around awkward dates (McKenna); no more fallout from love triangles (double date from hell with Helena, Tommy, and Laurel); no more stopping in the middle of an action-laden crisis to discuss his girlfriend's insecurities (Laurel - ugh!). They simply do not do romance well on this show. It always grinds the story to a complete halt when it should be ramping up. Therefore I would rather the romance side be inconsequential flings, while the real relationship development be the non-romantic, significant people in his life.
I agree with the idea of him growing closer to Felicity in a more platonic way. I also hope that she comes to see him more as a friend and colleague and less as her crush. They (and Diggle) need to grow as true collaborators and friends so that the equal footing they had in the last 2 episodes continues to get stronger. This is the relationship, as well as his with Thea, that I am most interested in and which I think will pay off more in the end than any romance is going to do.
I have high hopes for Thea's growth as a character this season as well of the development of her relationship with Oliver but my expectations are sadly low. I was disappointed that the character seemed to be an afterthought too often throughout season one.
Agreed. Any time actors are really appreciative of their roles and you can tell they have spent extra hours to give fans their best, it adds something to my experience as a viewer. However as you said, it also shows respect for the show since they feel it is worth their time. I would say this is not necessarily a genre thing, but maybe more of a CW thing. I think genre TV is getting more and more respect while the CW is getting less and less. To throw yourself into a CW project that you know will never get you any real awards or even as much attention as another project would shows great professionalism and heart. I don't know much about Morgan but if he's like Amell, the CW offered him his first big break and he is always very humble about that show of confidence they gave him. Since he improves acting wise every episode, I look forward to seeing what he can do in other projects as well.
I think Thea was definitely an afterthought in the beginning to middle episodes. I got whiplash trying to keep up with her sudden turns from wise teen to brainless party girl every other episode. Her character changed with every new writer. However it felt like they had a better grip on her character past the midpoint and Willa's shown she is a capable actress, so my expectations are pretty high for her going in. That may end up being a mistake on my part, especially if she becomes only one half of the Thea-Roy couple. To reduce her to a girlfriend role would be a huge waste of talent and story potential.

I couldn't agree more. I think her character and the show would benefit from giving Thea subplots that involve her associating with other characters like Diggle, Walter, or Felicity. Being shackled to Roy won't help the development of the character in the short or long term.
I'm not so worried about the equal footing aspect since it was either Kreisberg or Guggenheim who said right after season one that Oliver-Diggle-Felicity would quickly become an equal partnership situation in season two.
Thea is one of the main reasons why I want Walter to return in season 2 and have a bigger role. (The other being that he rocked every scene he was in.) I find their stepfather-daughter relationship one of the best in the series and one of the least stereotypical. I would like to delve more into it and perhaps get more flashbacks to life in Starling City without Oliver instead of the interminable island flashbacks.
I also second the idea of getting Thea more time with Felicity and Diggle. I'd especially pay to see her react to one of Felicity's verbal spewage fits. It would be cool if they could become somewhat friends since Laurel's already her mentor.
That's a relief. It took so long for Oliver to quit bossing them around and actually act like they were part of a team. I would hate to see that regress more than anything.
I'd like to see some flashbacks to what life was like while Oliver was gone as well. That's a good idea.
I'd especially pay to see her react to one of Felicity's verbal spewage fits.
Being the outspoken person she is, I think Thea would have plenty of material to riff on if she hung around Felicity enough. I also believe, if Thea spent enough time with Felicity and if Arrow continues to play up the Oliver/Felicity angle, that Thea would be the first one question the nature of Felicity's feelings toward Oliver. If that were ever to happen, we'd definitely see a whole heap of word salad coming out of Felicity.
Oh wow! That was awesome! My favorite part was Oliver and Felicity crashing through the window. I love the idea of Felicity getting more in on the action.
I absolutely love her. Is she still single? Not ever likely to happen, (like someone neatly quoted about Oliver/Felicity) she'll just be another crush of my many actress crushes.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Emily, you're too damn cute.
ReplyDeleteFun interview, but I still don't want to see them together. Felicity will just be another notch on Oliver's bedpost.

I agree. I never want so see them get together. They are better as friends.
ReplyDeleteShe look a bit awkward doing an interview with him, probably felt intimidated LOL

ReplyDeleteSo if Caity Lotz was one of the "big" casting announcements, I wonder who the other is? It's too bad the panel doesn't start 'til 8:15ET.

ReplyDeletePerhaps it will be the other villain. They said there will be 2 right and we've only heard about Summer Glau if I remember right.

ReplyDeleteWinner, winner, chicken dinner. Klaus is correct.

That would have been perfect. She does authority figures so well and it would have likely meant more time on the Diggle-Deadshot storyline, win-win.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if she's one of the announcements. Maybe the character she's playing would be the big announcement but Lotz herself isn't known enough to warrant the word "big" imo.

ReplyDeleteReally? From the ones I watched she looked to sure of herself and managed them so well.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the actress herself was the big announcement but rather the role she plays in the development of Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteHm. We probably saw different interviews then or maybe I was reading too much into them.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Any time actors are really appreciative of their roles and you can tell they have spent extra hours to give fans their best, it adds something to my experience as a viewer. ReplyDeleteYep just saw it on www.comicbookmovie.com a couple of minutes ago. Pure awesomeness, except for not knowing what to call the current Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That was awesome! My favorite part was Oliver and Felicity crashing through the window. I love the idea of Felicity getting more in on the action.
ReplyDeletesounds amazing ! can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThat was rather interesting...
ReplyDeleteI'm quite impressed with how well Stephen knows the show. Good on him!
Eventually, she wasn't the announcement but the suicide squad was.
ReplyDeleteAny rapid fire banter between the two would be fantastic. There could be a great Gilmore Girls vibe between them.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love her. Is she still single? Not ever likely to happen, (like someone neatly quoted about Oliver/Felicity) she'll just be another crush of my many actress crushes.
