  1. Buffy, Buffy and Buffy! And Vd!

  2. I don't think Gilmore Girls is a teen drama. Lorelai had just as much focus on this show as Rory.

My top 2 among these shows are TVD and PLL, and I prefer PLL's girls to Matt or Vicki (and I don't consider the vampires to be teens either) so I went with PLL.

  3. Yeah, Buffy should definitely be part of this list.

  4. I was tempted to say Dawson's Creek for Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson, but Williams wasn't very good on Dawson's Creek. She became one of the best actresses in the business, but you wouldn't have guessed it watching that show. Josh was always good, and he carried Holmes to her best work on the show, but between van der Beek and the adult cast? There was a lot of miss in that hit/miss.

Top to bottom, I'm not sure TVD has ever had a weak actor in a regular role. Even the ones that are under-utilized wind up showing some chops when they get something (remember Candace Accola in Season 2?)

  5. The presence of non-teenagers doesn't really preclude it from being a teen drama.

  6. definitely one tree hill. a fair amount of actors and actresses that started in oth are well known now (hilarie burton, sophia bush, bethany joy lenz, and to a lesser extent, chad michael murray). and even though many of these actors are still relatively unknown outside of oth, the cast throughout the nine seasons has been pretty strong (i guess i'm biased because i've only seen oth from this above list...) btw, if anyone wants to recommend other teen drama shows, i'm happy to take things into consideration... switched at birth and kyle xy are the only other teen dramas i've seen (oh and hart of dixie too, though i wouldn't necessarily call that a teen drama). I am thinking about watching felicity- is that good?

  7. I'm okay with Buffy not being in the list because the supernatural element edged it off "teen drama"

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's not the "presence" of adults, but the fact that half of the show was about an adult.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You could say the same thing about TVD, and the first 3 seasons of Buffy were focused on highschool.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Uh, BUFFY, maybe.................. who the doesn't include Buffy in this kind of poll?

    ReplyDelete
  11. The adult in question was the least mature character on the show. That was kind of the whole point of the key dynamic, that they were more friends than mother/daughter.

Half the cast was teenage, on a network about teen drama, that focused on family and relationship crisis. To suggest it doesn't belong is an abuse of semantics.

  12. Then there's no such thing as a teen drama, Compass. Name one, ever, that didn't have also have an adult focus?

  13. In case it wasn't clear to you, I agree with the rest but not with Gilmore Girls. YMMV.

  14. Dawson's Creek and Gilmore Girls.

  15. Awkward. have a great cast!

    ReplyDelete
  16. *cough, cough, cough* BUFFY!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Teen wolf! And. Vampire diaries.

    ReplyDelete
  18. isn't that a comedy, not a drama?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Vampire diaries. The cast, especially Nina dobrev who plays Elena and Katherine, are amazing

    ReplyDelete
  20. Buffy by far had the best cast...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Smallville had a really great cast too :D.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dawson's creek no contest. At least the cast actually looked like real teens and not models pretending to act. Also, josh, Michelle, James and Katie are good actors.

    ReplyDelete
  23. TVD. Gilmore Girls was good too.
I see that some say Buffy. And Buffy is my favorite show (even 10 years after it ended) and it had many drama elements (Buffy loosing Angel in S2 and killing him, the relationship dramas of Xander, Cordy, Will and Oz in S3, Willows depression after Oz left in S4, Joyce and Tara dying in S5 and 6, Dawn in S5 and 6, Buffys depression in S6, …) but I always saw it more as supernatural and comedy than drama.

  24. Party of Five was okay. Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell.

  25. I picked Pretty Little Liars.Sasha Pieterse and Troian Bellisario alone put It strong cast.Yeah Shay Mitchell and Lucy Hale are kinda weak links amoung It cast.On Vampire Diaries among present regurar cast I would only call Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder strong among It's cast. They are often what keeps me watching when I have Issues with wrting Julie Plec does on show.

  26. I don't consider Gilmore Girls or LU "teen dramas".I consider them family/relationship dramas, like Parenthood. Gilmore Girls was also a dramadey.I also wouldn't consider HoD a "teen drama" cause 99.9% of the cast and thier characters are adults with careers, living on thier own.The two teen character,Rose, or Magnoilia are barley ever seen.If the poll maker includes HoD as a "teen drama" cause it's soapy with love triangels even though there's 99%. Adult characters , then Greys,ER,PP, NCIS are teen dramas too, cause they have adult charatcters and love triangles/relationship drama too.

  27. Edgemont. Show never showed any adults ever.

    ReplyDelete
  28. toss up between OTH and TVD. Both shows really pushed the actors and had them do a lot of emotional acting and different versions of the characters

    ReplyDelete
  29. Prob a tie between VD & Teen Wolf

Where's The OC? Ben McKenzie, Adam Brody, Peter Gallagher, Melinda Clarke. Good actors in that series.

  31. Where's Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

    ReplyDelete
  32. How could I forget that!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just saw Busy Phillips on Arrested Development so she, and therefore that show, came to mind. I may have forgotten too otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I haven't watched TVD so I can make that comparison, but in the end, Buffy's run post high school was longer, and the themes evolved with the characters.

It's about that I think, BtVS was more about the characters growing up than being framed by any label such as "teen drama"

    ReplyDelete
  35. But Lorelai's level of maturity has nothing to to with the situations she had to deal actually being an adult.

Do not dismiss nuances for semantiics

    ReplyDelete
  36. As another poster mentioned, Teen Wolf has the best cast of any "teen" drama, followed by Pretty Little Liars. That show hooked me because I love the main girls but I also LOVE their parents equally if not more sometimes which is rare for a show like that. Really strong cast.

The Vampire Diaries has an okay cast but even they cannot do anything to fix what the writers have done to the characters at this point so meh to them.

  37. Veronica Mars!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. For me, it's a tie between the original 90210 and PLL. PLL has some great girls, Shay Mitchell has really grown and the rest are already pretty awesome IMO. And the original 90210 may be cheesy, but it's a classic and it was a solid show.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Vampire Diaries! :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, that and My So Called Life.

    ReplyDelete
  41. other - Veronica Mars

    ReplyDelete
  42. Other - I love the amazing cast of everwood, buffy, gilmore girls a.o. Not sure any of them fall under the category 'teen drama' though

    ReplyDelete
  43. One Tree Hill Buffy The Vampire Slayer Vampire Diaries Pretty Little Liars

    What about Popular??

    ReplyDelete
  45. Gilmore Girls! Lorelai (not a teen, but still) Dean, Jess, Logan, Tristan, Rory,...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Current - Teen Wolf. Past - probably Buffy.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I miss The O.C. It ended too soon.

    ReplyDelete
  48. yeah, i guess. didn't read the title of the poll properly, my bad!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gilmore Girls. HoD a VERY close second.

    ReplyDelete
  50. BH 90210. Their storylines had substance.

    ReplyDelete
  51. At the end though, Buffy was a lot darker than any other "teen drama" or even most "adult dramas" of its time - it had attempted rape, main character shootings, permanent physical damage and the loss of a parent. It has had more adult themes like lesbianism and life after death (Heaven/Hell). And it could be pretty violent (skinning a guy on TV). I would count the first few seasons of Buffy as a teen drama. But I think it also grew with its audience, so at the end it was for adults.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Come on, people, who can forget The O.C. ?!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't forget Roswell.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Smallville
    Gilmore Girls
    American Dreams
    Buffy
    Party of Five

Everything else I would think of delves into young adult/collage life...
