-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 6/27/12:
CBS: +66, CW: +25, ABC: – 2, NBC: – 8, Fox: -66
———-
-Winners:
“The Stanley Cups Finals,” Game 6 (NBC), “The Bachelorette” (ABC), “The Big Bang Theory” R (CBS), “Under the Dome” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“The Goodwin Games” (Fox), “Oh Sit!” (CW), “Mistresses” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
There was enormous news on dominant CBS, which scored a stellar 9.2 rating/15 share in the overnights for the series-premiere of highly promoted science fiction drama “Under The Dome” at 10 p.m. Comparably, and opposite Game 6 of “The Stanley Cup Finals” on NBC, this built from an encore of lead-in “The Big Bang Theory” (#1t: 5.2/ 8 at 9:30 p.m.) by 77 percent with growth over a year-ago repeat airing of “Hawaii Five-O” (4.1/ 7 on 6/25/12) of 124 percent. To put this 9.2 rating in perspective, take a look at “Under the Dome” versus the recent debuts of the other two new scripted summer dramas to-date:
“Mistresses” (ABC): Monday 10 p.m. (June 13): 3.8/ 6
“Crossing Lines” (NBC): Sunday 9 p.m. (June 23): 3.0/ 5
‘Under the Dome” (CBS): Monday 10 p.m. (June 24): 9.2/15
Most new shows, of course, drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in the overnights in week two (and another 10 percent in week three). And if this does indeed happen to “Under the Dome,” it will still be a hit and proof that viewers will tune into the broadcast networks in the summer if there is something on worth watching. Congratulations, CBS.
Earlier in the evening on the Eye net were encores of “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 3.1/ 5), “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 3.3/ 6) and another installment of “The Big Bang Theory” (#2: 4.7/ 8) from 8-9:30 p.m.
On NBC, the Chicago Blackhawks at the Boston Bruins on game six of “The Stanley Cup Finals” scored an estimated 4.5/ 8 in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. But since Chicago is excluded from last night’s averages, anticipate a number closer to a 5.0. For an early summer evening (and opposite “Under the Dome” on CBS), consider this a solid performance for hockey.
Despite the increased competition last night, summer female ABC favorite “The Bachelorette” was on the map with a 5.1/ 8 from 8-10 p.m. (and only three-tenths of a rating point variation in the four half hours). Next was recent entry “Mistresses,” which dipped to series-low 2.9/ 5 at 10 p.m. opposite “Under the Dome.” Four-week overnight track for “Mistresses”: 3.8/ 6 – 3.5/ 6 – 3.1/ 5 – 2.9/ 5.
Elsewhere, Fox could not compete with its line-up of a repeat of “Raising Hope” (#4: 1.5/ 3), recent entry “The Goodwin Games” (#4: 1.2/ 2), and repeats of “New Girl” (#4: 1.1/ 2) and “Anger Management” (#4: 1.3/ 2), which originally aired on FX. And The CW featured the season (or series) finale of game show “Oh Sit!” (#5: 0.7/ 1) and a repeat of “The Carrie Diaries” (#5: 0.3/ 1), which moves to Fridays at 8 p.m. next fall (into tired “America’s Next Top Model”).
