The Tomorrow People - Episode 1.01 - Pilot - Preview

Jun 3, 2013

It's that time of year again. The CW have announced their fall lineup, including their newly picked up shows. One of these pilot shows is a revamp of the British TV series The Tomorrow People.

So what is the show about?
The show is about a group of superhumans called The Tomorrow People. Although born to human parents, they have special abilities such as teleportation, telekinesis and telepathy. The show follows the life of these 'Tomorrow People', and in particular, the life of Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell). Stephen is a teenager, and having heard voices in his head and waking up in other places for a year, he doubting whether he is going insane. He currently lives with his mother (Sarah Clarke, which I was so happy to see her back in TV that I watch!), and his brother.

The Tomorrow People contain John (Luke Mitchell), Cara (Peyton List) and Russell (Aaron Yoo). They are being hunted down by a group named Ultra, who are led by Dr. Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino), and Price is very determined to rid the world of The Tomorrow People. He offers Stephen the chance to join him to take down the Tomorrow People, while on the other hand, Stephen is given the chance to join the Tomorrow People in searching for a way to live their lives in peace.

Why should I watch it?
The show's opening episode is very strong. A lot is revealed in the episode, but there's still a lot of ambiguity left over. Much of the episode revolves around Stephen finding out who these 'Tomorrow People' are, and what kind of life they live. It's very interesting to see how these people live, and how they've gotten to this point. They have many problems in day-to-day life, and we get to find out how they deal with them.

I loved the episode. I thought it was a very good start to a new show. The show can go places if it continues to the standard that this pilot episode came to. If you haven't already thought of this show as one you will watch this fall, I strongly advise you to.

  2. At first I read Sarah Clarke as Sarah Chalke, and I was like "What?".
I am still jealous that I didn't get to watch it, but I am glad you enjoyed it. It is definitely going to be one of my top new shows to watch in the fall, and will be a good pairing with Arrow for me.

  3. Bit of a difference between them! Wednesday nights are awesome next year. Arrow, The Tomorrow People, Criminal Minds and CSI. Don't know how I'll keep up!

  7. I think it's definitely worth the pilot at least. I don't usually watch this kind of superhero show where they actually have superpowers, so I was quite shocked that I was interested in it. It seems like it'll be a very good show.

  9. I read the pilot script before it was deleted. All promo clips basically match the script. I wasn't impressed at all by the show. The worse part is that this show is giving us a love quad instead of love triangle. It is John/Cara/Stephen/Astrid.
John loves Cara. Cara is dating John but rather be dating Stephen. Russell keeps teasing her telepathically that she has hots for Stephen. Stephen fell in love with Cara at first sigh andt gets jealous when he sees John and Cara kissing. Astrid is in love with Stephen. In fact Stephen reads her mind by accident where she is begging him to kiss her. Sadly he only thinks of her as a friend.
I guess we suppose to root for Stephen and Cara. However I found myself not caring at all. I have no idea why Cara is stringing John along, when is obvious she wants Stephen. I am sure the show will give stupid bs reason.

I will definitely watch this now

  11. Special effects and action look great, and it seems to have a decent cast (yay Pellegrino and List), but I'm worried the CW-ish love triangle crap will ruin everything. That stuff sure didn't do Arrow any favors. Still, it's the only new CW show I'm even thinking of checking out.

Fun fact: Sarah Clarke who portrays the hero's mother was also Alex's mother in Nikita. The CW actor recycling continues :)

  12. Is the show based off the old BBC show, "The Tomorrow People", that ran 1973-1979? Loved watching back then and if so I look forward to retelling.
