Supernatural - 1.02 - Wendigo - Classic Podcast

Jun 3, 2013

Hey there all you wayward sons and daughters! Thanks for joining us once again. Up for discussion is episode 1x02: Wendigo. The gals are still in a really good mood chatting about Classic Supernatural and it shows. There’s a lot to love (and nitpick OF COURSE). Even though Lilith found the episode to be kind of ‘meh’ she found lots to like and not a lot to dislike. Dahne once again strikes a balance of being an appreciative fan and honest critic. So, come on in and have a listen. Enjoy!

  1. Ah, it is so good to be so positive about Supernatural again. I really enjoy Wendigo, exposition aside. Hailey is one of my favorite PiPs - smart, strong, there for her family. Her parallels with Dean made for good background and helped me care about a character that was on screen for less than 30 minutes.

  2. Saving these classic podcasts for my vacation next week. SPN ... the early years. Ahhh.

  3. That's exactly how I feel. Season 1, even the bad episodes, are a welcome relief. I loved season 1 and every episode had something redeemable in it. It is so nice to be able to cheerlead for SPN again. These episodes warm my heart.

  4. Just finished listening. Nice to listen to podcasts about these older wonderful episodes. As far as season one is concerned, I have my blinkers on because I love every episode even the ones I know are considered less worthy.

I just love watching the brothers, getting to know them and their brotherly moments.:)

After having watched the pilot I was dying to see what would happen next and so I have to say i loved Wendigo. I was intrigued by the co-ordinates until of course we found out that they had nothing to do with John but were only bait to lure the boys to a hunt.

I don't mind exposition when it gives me an insight into the back story of the brothers or the monster they are hunting and to be honest there was quite a bit of action too in this ep. I hate camping but i really liked the scenes in the woods.

Loved how Dean took out the monster and Sam's bravery in trying to protect the victims by standing in front of them.Loved the "cheapeniing the moment " lines between Haley and Dean. Then I liked Sam's lap-top with the stickers. I think they were trying to emphasise his youthfulness in contrast to being an expert hunter too.

The scene where Ben lies to the Police about what happened to them was cool too.

Then the classic moment at the end where Sam looks over at his brother with such a totally fond and loving expression on his face, just melted my heart. So sweet.

When I compare what we got then to what we're getting in season eight, I fell so sad for what season eight could have been but wasn't.:(

Thanks for taking the time to do these podcasts.

Saw this on super wiki yesterday, and I thought. Really!
[ May 28th Supernatural writer Adam Glass for some story ideas for Season
    9. Lots of fans responded - as well as fellow writer Robbie Thompson. ]

Asking fans for ideas for season nine plot-lines!. What the heck!

Instead of fan wanking, the writers should all go and watch the whole series and try to get their facts and canon right.I can just imagine the suggestions they must have gotten!!

    Poor Supernatural with such writers.

  5. I cannot say that I love every episode in season 1. It had it's clunkers too. I can however say that I appreciate the episodes in season 1 more after watching season 8. Season 1 has always been one of my favorite seasons. I liked the case of the week formula and the fact that it was almost always 2 brothers saving the day and killing evil together. It was rare when the brothers did not get the win and even rarer when they didn't do it together. That's enough to make the season vastly superior to anything season 8 did.

Paul WS Anderson did this on Twitter when writing the last Resident Evil movie. And look at how that turned out. What an effing mess. My poor baby Leon. What the hell was that? JENSEN SHOULD'VE BEEN LEON, DAMMIT.

  7. Not only does it scream of incompetence, it is also a legal issue. There's a reason why writers don't read fanfic. If a writer uses an idea a fan also thought of and that fan can prove that the writer read the fanfic (or in this case read the tweet) the writer, the show, and the production company can be sued. If this is true, the lawyers at Warner Brothers must be having a fit.

  8. I'm always paranoid they're reading my fanfic. But when my ideas came up, I did them better, so I figured they actually weren't. Funniest thing was when I came up with a demon killing knife for a pre-season three fic during the summer between S2 and S3. I began posting the story a week before the S3 premiere ... then guess what shows up in the shoooooow. I LOL'd then I was like GMTA. Back when I saw the SPN writers had great minds. Then I kicked myself for semi-foreshadowing angels because mine was the Sword of Uriel, one of four rare demon-killing knives, each belonging to an Archangel. But that was all myth and conjecture in the context of the story.

  9. They really cannot. The legal department would tear them into shreds before dumping their lifeless carcass in a ravine. On the plus side, then they could become a plot for Supernatural themselves.

  10. So true.
However, who's to know if they take a peek or have someone do it for them.
    We are all so fallible!
