Catelyn slashing Walder Frey's wife's throat with that look of utter blankness on her face. I've known this was coming for ages, but it was so hard to watch Catelyn die. Yeah yeah, I know - she's an evil bitch because she hated Jon. Whatever. Cat rocked.
I had NO idea! When they stabbed the baby, I actually shouted Oh My God! Originally, I had Catelyn pleads for Rob and Arya arrives too late - but that didn't seem to encompass enough of that horrible scene... I'm still stunned...
Gotta go with the wedding massacre, it was an incredibly well done scene. Robb's wife announcing her pregnancy, Arya just missing her reunion and death, Catelyn seeing it coming, Catelyn screaming while cutting the throat of Frey's wife, etc. Very graphic and very well done.
Strangely Rickon & Osha parting with the rest of the gang made me more emotional than the Red Wedding. Could be I closed off my emotions to prepare for that bloodbath.
My original description of that scene was Ygritte is more loyal than Jon Snow. She could have forced him to kill the guy, yet she steps in, knowing the rest of the Wildlings will then turn on her... So, yeah. His running away and leaving her like that? I'd be shooting _him_ the next time I saw him if I was Ygritte!
I say this every week - it's SOOOO hard to pick only a few scenes for this show! Really Walder Frey betrays the Starks is a bit of a cop out because it conveys everything (for me) from him closing the doors to the killing of Catelyn - and Arya arriving too late... If I were Ygritte, the next arrow Jon Snow saw from me would be sticking out of him...
Yep. I think they should have had her shoot at him once she realized he left her. Personally I never liked the concept of her putting Jon before the Wildlings anyway.
Well you kinda need that umbrella. If you don't see them as parts of the whole then something basically gets lost in the appreciation of the entire massacre scene.
As much as I couldn't handle the scene, Catelyn's desperation and final death was one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen on television. Some won't like it because of the graphic violence but I for one know I won't be able to forget this scene for awhile. As much as I liked both characters, I will always appreciate GRRM's boldness and creativity in writing.
Other because I could not choose one. The Red Wedding. OMG! Was absolutely awesome, but I was also really expecting John to leave the wildlings, so that was also one of my favorites.
Oddly enough, what really stand out for me were Arya and the Hound discussing Jaqen H'ghar. He isn't adressed by name, but she talks about a killer and she tells the Hound she knows he's not one and they start talking about knowing each other's fears. It immediately place them in other level, all becaue The Hound is not Jaqen.
Jon Snow betrays Ygritte? What am I missing? No way he could have taken on all those Wildlings... her best interest was for him to leave and hope the others sparred her life.
Honestly there were so many great scenes in this episode I find it easier to pick my least favorite scene. Jon revealing his true colors to the WIldlings and Ygritte defending him. HATED it.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI had to put it all under that umbrella - originally, I had it listed separately as all the scenes you describe...

ReplyDeleteNo, especially if this is where they were going to go with it. Cheap. Makes Jon look terrible.

ReplyDeleteWalder Frey (Mr. Filch de HP) betrays the Starks.
ReplyDeleteHas to be the Red Wedding scene though Bran and Rickon saying goodbye to each other is a close second.
ReplyDeleteThe Red wedding,i still can't verbalize how i feel..
ReplyDeletethe betrayed and all the butchering scene was so fucking hard as a non reader i was really really angry about that
ReplyDeleteArya watching Grey Wind die.....so sad
ReplyDeleteI'd go with this one, too. So sad and his death was awful as well.
ReplyDeleteTHIS ONE!
