  1. Awesome premiere! Yay, Erica and Boyd are still alive! I knew they weren't dead! I can already tell that this season is going to be so epic. :D

  2. You really thought Eric and Boyd were dead ?

It needed more Peter Hale :)

  3. Liked it. Liked where they had everyone starting off the season...except....Lydia's keeping hot young thangs in her bedroom. Did her parents leave the country for the summer? (yeah. yeah. I know I'm showing my age. :-D ) Loved Dereck tossing Gigantor out of the elevator. Instant hatred for the wolf with the clawed feet. (I think I wanted her claws to look more...real? I dunno. Just hated her.) It's a hoot to see the twins from Desperate Housewives. :-)

  4. I hate the California location which does not look nearly as good as whichever town they filmed in before, however this was a freaking fantastic premiere and I was totally engaged and into every minute of it. I can't freaking wait for the rest of the season.

  5. I thought I saw her in the 'This season on" promo. Do you know if they hired someone else or will they kill off the character?

  6. So Scott is the Skywalker of Werewolves. I wonder if whatever makes him "special" has something to do with his lineage, particularly his fathers.

DAMN Its GREAT to see this show back.

It seems they upped the ante on EVERYTHING - cinematography, fight choreography, etc.

Love the mysteries and questions this episode raised, love the intense atmosphere.

Damn its great to see this brilliant, brilliant, brilliant show back.

  8. I never liked the shows obsession with literary references and finding profound cultural meanings for things (tattoo's) and applying them to something as shallow as a teenage relationship. I think the show would benefit more from just being what it is a show centred in werewolf and skin walker mythology set in school. Other than that (which is something that has annoyed me the entire run of the show) I am happy it is back.

  9. They filmed in Atlanta before... but they won in this TV & film tax credit lottery and had to move to LA.

  10. SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER Gage Golightly has already confirmed she's left the show so I'd say Erica isn't long for this world :( SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER

  11. I loved it,I loved it,I loved it!20 minutes in and I felt so exhausted like I had watched en entire season.I mean that as a compliment. The pace of the series is one of the things that makes the show so great and I hope they keep it up now that they've doubled the season's eps.

  12. great episode liking the involvment of the alpha pack and the danger they pose to scott and friends
anyone know if they are still doing a 24 episode season or the usual 12?

    ReplyDelete
  13. 24, broken down in two 12 episode parts.

  14. This is the summer premiere I was most looking forward to and it did not disappoint. There was a ton of action that started right off the bat. I am intrigued by the way Alphas work and have no idea who that new female was. While I was confused as to what was going on most of the time, I was actively engaged in finding out the answers. Bodes well for a great season 3.

  15. I did not think they were dead but it did surprise me that they were not reunited with Derek as a pack at all. I thought Derek was going to rescue them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I find Peter's role in the pack very interesting. You know he is scheming to take over but he has the patience to wait. It means that every time he is on screen, I am searching for his motives. Makes for a great character.

    ReplyDelete
  17. For me it was the fact that she was barefoot all the time. Walking around a hospital barefoot just squicks me out. I also loved the elevator wolf fight. Very intense and of course any time Derek pops up is a good moment.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I noticed that too and it actually makes me nervous. So many shows go wrong when the protagonist becomes the Special One. I liked Scott as a new werewolf trying to navigate his way through two worlds.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The pacing is what hooked me first too. Everything seems to be in double time so there is almost constant action. Tat's the way I want a summer TV show to go. It also helps because it allows each main cast member to have memorable scenes in almost every episode. No one gets left behind because the story is constantly moving forward.

it was good but for me it was a bit over the top for a season premiere .. i remain skeptic how they are going to handle 24 episodes

  21. Well I'm not sure what to think of Scott being "special". Because it could be that werewolves can sense potential. If a werewolf can haunt you after it dies if it bit you recently, sensing potential probably isn't too far fetched. But yeah, it makes me a bit nervous too because I don't want him to be prophecy or something.

I'm also interested to see how a blind alpha can take control of a pack of alphas like that. He definitely seems to give me a Gerald mixed with Peter type of vibe though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was worried that since they were given 20+ eps,the pace would slow down, but judging from this ep it doesn't seem like it.I'm so excited!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Me too. There doesn't seem to be much filler in this show and I am hoping that they will run the extended order like two separate seasons and keep it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Potential is definitely better than prophecy to me too. Prophecy is becoming a lame trope. I have all kinds of questions about this Alpha pack. First off a pack of alphas seems to be an oxymoron. Second, how did those two twin werewolves combine into one? Third how can there be an Alpha alpha? I am stymied about the premiere but I love that there are all kinds of mysteries to be learned. It makes for a good potential season.

  25. goin to be interesting how it worksout

  26. I voted great though usually I vote awesome =(. I wasn't feeling the episode so much... it was really confusing and not in an intriguing way this time. Too many new characters who I don't know! Looking forward to next episode though and clearing up some of my confusion lol. Hospital scenes on this show in general are freaky and this was no different with the barefoot people and the random werewolves walking around... The whole animals thing was freaky! And somehow a deer runs into a car but both passengers are okay? Glad to know the special effect werewolf makeup has not improved in the slightest and still looks awful =P

    ReplyDelete
  27. Exactly. Although I disagree with Peter wanting to become Alpha again. Peter makes for a better Beta. Too much is going on nowadays and he prefers being in the background anyway. As for his motives... one never knows with Peter. Good work Ian Bohen!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think Peter would jump at the chance to be Alpha again but only when it is a lot safer. He seems to be about protecting himself above all else. I could see him lying low while Derek takes on the Alphas and then using the outcome to his advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe it works sort of like a democracy. Where each alpha has a say With Duecalion being the "president" of sorts while the others would be below in terms of final say, but they all keep their power in check? I dunno. I'm not sure about the twins. That seems like a twin type ability. Kind of like a double heads coin of sorts maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like the idea of a werewolf democracy. It would be an unusual twist. Can't wait for the show to explore the Alpha power structure more.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I dunno. So far it's feeling like the natural progression of the character. He started off struggling to navigate and then, in his simple need to protect people and do the right thing, became a hero. I think it'll be really interesting as long as its focused on Scott's potential because of the kind of person he is rather than a prophecy...I think I'll be happy.

I hope they manage to make the transition from 12 eps to 24 smoothly.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I thought that was a great scene too. I think it was smart getting Scott's mom on board last season because she can prove to be a great resource and ally. I also like that Isaac is getting a more prominent role so far.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I dislike when they rush a genre character into being the most super special one of the whole wide world. The only time that has ever worked for me is Harry Potter, and that's all credit to J. K. Rowling. It doesn't make sense to me that Scott would already be a threat to an Alpha pack. Everyone needs to hone their skills no matter what organization's ladder they are climbing. If it ends up that Scott has special blood or something, it will dull a bit of the show's luster for me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree about the special blood/prophecy-I've liked Scott's gradual transition and I would hate it if the writers made this destiny, but my theory is that it will fall within the idea that there are different types of werewolves. My current theory, based off of some of the promos and other spoilers that I've read, is that you don't necessarily have to kill an alpha to become an alpha. Some betas may have the potential to become an Alpha under the right circumstances (fear, exposure to something, etc).

It may not happen to all betas, but there may be something in the genetic makeup that would allow for one beta to become an alpha under those circumstances, whereas another would not. We've already seen that werewolves have different eyes, so maybe that's an indication of some sort (the genetic factors underlying or something).

It's possible that while Scott is not the only werewolf in the world to be special (there may be several others like him), the Alpha pack could have sensed something about him. Or fans have theorized that Scott's dad turned into a werewolf at some point. Maybe they ran across him and realized that Scott had the potential to become a threat because of the possibility that he may carry a chromosome or something.

Whether my theory's right or not, I would be ok with Scott posing any threat to the Alpha pack because he had inherited genetic traits-as long as he wasn't the only werewolf to have them. It's fine if it's a small group, but part of what makes his story great is his decisions to take the path he's taken in the face of adversity. If it all boils down to just simple destiny, I'll be majorly pissed.

It's sort of like great athletes have speed and/or strength, but they don't have to become athletes-they choose to go down that road to become them. Any other scenario for Scott would just suck in my mind.

  35. Jeff Davis has said that that's the way he intends to run the season (in fact in the writers room they refer to the storylines as 3A or 3B). They'll be somewhat connected, but there'll be two distinct storylines. The alpha pack for the first part and we have yet to find out for the second. But they're doing it this way so that they won't have any filler episodes like most shows do.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Derek bares this out nicely. :-) He became an alpha without any seasoning as a leader and, as a result, sucked at it.

However, we should also keep in mind that this show seems to have created a new (or at least non-standard) mythology. They werewolf mythology I've seen in most fiction and film usually show alpha and beta wolves as a more social status. The alpha has fought their way to the top of the pack hierarchy. The beta is their second in command. Here it appears that alphas are a specific *type* of wolf. All of the non-alphas in a pack have been considered beta. The concept of an omega is a little less clear. In the ep where we saw the omega it wasn't clear if this as a type of wolf or social status.

All of which is to say..this alpha pack may not, necessarily, be made up of older, more experienced werewolves. The bio on the Muscle Head (sorry haven't memorized the new character's names yet) didn't leave me to believe this was a character capable of leading a pack.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Except that Peter became an alpha when he killed Derek's sister. Derek became an alpha when he killed Peter. Allison's grandfather wanted to kill Derek so he could be the alpha. It seems to me that the mytharc has been more traditional.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like that this theory has a logical explanation which is better than random magic prophecies. However, I still prefer that Scott be a young werewolf trying to make his way in both worlds fighting the odds stacked against him. It makes him more relatable, more "human" if you will.

    ReplyDelete
  39. actually like the sounds of that there should be interesting
i hadnt heard anything different but i heard the same thing last season that it was gonna be a 24 episode season and it ended up being 12

    ReplyDelete
  40. Right now it looks like a mixed bag and I hope it's a very solid story base and we just don't have all the information right now.

In the traditional arc you don't have a pack of alphas. Traditionally, a pack has one alpha. If we look at this from a very traditional point of view then this isn't a pack of alpha, it's a pack made up of wolves who became alphas of other packs, gave that up and decided to become members of a pack of really strong wolves, they wouldn't be alphas anymore. :-D

I'm just theorizing. One of the things I like so much about the show is that they seem to be building their own mythos and we don't have all the pieces yet. That's fun.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm actually thinking of it in that way right now until I have better information. I see it as Alphas who decided to make an ultrapack, and therefore gave up their stauts but not necessarily their enhanced abilities because the entire pack is strong, if that makes any sense. Derek said that being part of a pack made everyone stronger, individually as well as together. Therefore it may be possible that a pack of the strongest werewolves around could enhance their abilities beyond a separate Alpha. Therefore while they are not the alphas anymore, except for the "blind" guy, they are still stronger than they were as alphas which was enough for them to give up their status.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that is the perfect way to do it. It definitely cuts down on the filler like you said.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i agree the filler episodes end up being crap when you have had a great story arc driven episode and then they air something that has nothing to do with the story going on atall

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sometimes standalones can end up being my favorite episodes of the season but for me they have to work extra hard to make that story tight and the characters engaging if they aren't going to tie it to the overall story line.
