I’ve learned that Starz has given a series order to Outlander, a drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling fantasy/romance/adventure series of books. I hear the project, from Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore and Sony Pictures TV, has received a 16-episode order, with production slated to begin in October in Scotland where the books are set.

Okay, I've never heard of these books before, but based on the plot given by Deadline, I'm interested. Will try to check out the books before the show premieres!
ReplyDeleteI had heard of the books but only a few months back, had no idea they were planning a series and Ronald D Moore involved, I am so in!
ReplyDeleteDon't care what's it's about, all I know is that Ron Moore + fantasy/adventure + pay-cable sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the 16-episode order, I wonder if Starz will split that over two seasons. It sounds like an expensive show to produce, it could be Starz's response to HBO's Game of Thrones, so perhaps we already have the guarantee of having an 8-episode second season - after all, Starz blindly ordered second seasons to Boss, Magic City and Spartacus weeks before these series even started airing.
Starz could use a very good series — I'm still reeling over the cancellation of the wonderful Boss. With the great Spartacus going out on its own terms, and Da Vinci's Demons being average at best, Starz needs a bold voice giving them a breakout, critically acclaimed hit, much like Moore offered a reputation to Sci-Fi with Battlestar Galactica (the Stargate franchise came from Showtime). I hope he'll do it again here with Outlander.
I love the books, reading them over again.
ReplyDelete16-episode order? Is Starz expanding its original programming lineup? Either that or this has got to be over several seasons (one part airing in Fall, one in Midseason / alternatively ordering 2 seasons of 8 episodes each) Will be interesting to hear how they resolve this question alone haha!
ReplyDeleteSince the books are so popular maybe they're banking on this being their biggest show yet and will have a 16 episode first season. The fans of the series seem very popular. I just read the synopsis and it doesn't sound bad, I'll have to buy the e-book on Google later today.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I remeber buzz about this on Vaginal Fantasy! Felicia Day must know!!
ReplyDeleteI want to be excited. But I really really really don't trust Ron Moore. Listening to his commentary on Battlestar was a disaster. I'll wait until I see the casting for Jamie, to really decide, but until then, I'm sticking with Ron Moore has no idea of how to do anything romance-y.
ReplyDeleteDamn! I can't afford to add Starz!
ReplyDeleteNeither can i,we'll sob together as we here everyone raving about it! ;)
ReplyDeleteawesome! I hope the casting makes me happy.
ReplyDeletegreat books. I've reread the first couple 4 or 5 times.
ReplyDeleteCount me in the sobbing party! No Starz for me either :(
ReplyDeleteHa! we'll make it the weekly Spoiler Sob Fest! :( :)
