Once Upon a Time - Season 3 - Scoop from Kitsis and Horowitz

Thanks to 6Spike for the heads up.

On how Season 3 will begin:
Horowitz: It's pretty much a direct pickup ... What you saw at the end of the finale is a jumping off point: Some characters are on the boat, some characters are in Storybrooke. [The beginning of Season 3 focuses on] what they're facing and how they're going to deal with new challenges, particularly having a lot of our hero characters and our villain characters forced to work together.

Kitsis: The major difference is that there are characters who are separated, but for us, what's interesting is that you see this motley crew on this ship and you wonder how they're going to work together. You've got that core dysfunctional family on the ship heading to Neverland to get back Henry -- so they're separated in a different way.

Horowitz: We have characters left behind in Storybrooke, like Belle and those folks, and what they're going through, so we've hopefully created a situation where the dramatic stakes are heightened, but they allow us to delve deeper into each of the characters and use the next season to really go into how they're going to react to these new situations.

On the different plot and scheduling formats for next season:
Kitsis: One of the things that we're most excited about is that -- and I know that the audience loves when the show is off the air for four weeks -- this year, we're going to do 11 episodes in fall, and 11 in spring, and we're approaching it like two seasons. The first 11 is a very focused, contained beginning, middle and end journey for these characters.

Horowitz: The plan currently is that it will run sometime starting in the fall through December, then come off and come back in the spring for 11 [episodes] straight.

    All good things I say!

  2. I really like the idea of handling a serialized show as if it were 2 seasons. On a week, off a week is frustrating for me. I'd rather watch shows with continuing storylines in 2 small seasons than try to keep track missing a week or 2 then getting a week or 2 lather, rinse, repeat.

  3. Unfortch, the first two were EXACTLY what they said about Season 2.

  4. Old news, but good news. I'm very excited about the improved structuring.

  5. Yes, but now they have Peter Pan rights worked out an no Charming's or Rumple and Regina in Storybrooke...If they're going to keep Storybrooke going, then they're going to have to give those characters what's due.

All we can do is hope they're where they wanted to be and that leads to better things.

  6. I'm extremely hesitant that they say removing all main characters then wanting to 'focus' on characters they've ignored for a season. Especially when they're heavily looked on as 'filler' episodes and very low-rated in terms of quality.

  7. Now, is it going to be BSG or Veronica Mars S3 in terms of divided seasons. Hmmm.

  8. I don't blame you, but I'm still going to hold out and hope for the best. I personally like the situation we ended with in S2 much better than the situation we started with in S2. I think they should have gotten "here" sooner.

I think the 2 part arcs will be better for them, especially since they're taking on a spin off too! The little breaks for most of the network shows I watch were murder to me this past year! I thought it worked well for Revolution, although I hope Once's hiatus won't be quite that long!

  9. Again, nothing juicy...

  10. Well, these are all very general statements...
To be honest, for now I'm only excited for the adventures of the 'Neverland crew'...and maybe a backstory on bad ass granny would be nice:)! IMO the only other character of interest in SB would be Ruby, but she's gone:(

  11. I actually don't understand how they'll be able to manage it. All of a sudden, Red returns from the ashes, along with Archie, and Belle and Granny have independent storylines? I think it would be great, but I'm very skeptical.

  12. Right? I'm not really at all interested in Belle, I felt like they were reaching HARD and coming up empty for her 'backstory' episodes in Season 2 already and it made Rumbelle SO much creepier too. So without them together in order to repair that, I'm kind of coming up with a loss as to what they'd do with her.

Granny I would LOVE to see more stories about because she has the potential to be connected to everyone. I'd actually looooove to see more of what happened with her and Anita, how she got the cloak (had to be from Rumple, right?), she could even have involvement in the longer stories like Rumple, Regina, Cora, Archie or Marco. Now that Red is gonna (sobbing) Granny is their strongest character left in Storybrooke.

  13. I think this sounds great! I know, you guys keep saying this is old news. But I get excited each time I read it. I either am very easily excited, or have a terrible memory. Probably a bit of both. ;)
