  5. Six seasons and a movie with Dan Harmon !

I'm so hoping all the new NBC comedies fail (it's okay to think that, except perhaps The Michael J. Fox Show they all seem to suck :)) so that Community comes back on the air in 2013, gets an extension from its 13-episode order and it'd ultimately lead to NBC having no choice but to renew it once again, for the last time, for a sixth season. I could very well see upcoming syndication broadcaster Comedy Central ordering a TV movie after that.

With important writer Megan Ganz gone from the show after writing the finale (she's on Modern Family now), season 5 was in need to keep writers from the early days (Andy Bobrow is the only one still working on Community that was here before season 3), and getting Harmon back will certainly help :D !

Now I don't want to pretend that season 4 was all happening in the Dreamatorium Abed was seen entering in episode 3.22 and that the actual follow-up to season 3 will be with the Harmon-filled fifth season (though that's a loophole easily usable, but it wouldn't be fun after a couple of jokes to dismiss/downright deny season 4 like that), because I wasn't nearly as pessimistic about season 4 as many were, and the second part improved on the first part, but it's a relief to have Harmon back.

Community season 4 was still much better than most comedies on the air and many comedies I like, but there was an overall feeling of the writers trying too hard to provoke a reaction from the fans, telling us "you see, we haven't changed!" and that made the show different in a weird way — because season 4 certainly wasn't more accessible or mainstream than seasons 2 & 3, I'll give them that. Some references to movies/previous seasons weren't very subtle, and I understand why Chevy Chase was upset with the writing of his character (it was redeemed by some of the latter episodes of the season), so yeah, happy that season 5 will have Harmon.

I hate people who almost wanted to blindly hate season 4 purely because they wanted Dan Harmon back, and it feels corny to say but a spark of honesty was missing from most episodes (not episode 4.11 though), and that spark was no doubt Harmon's touch, and that of the slew of longtime writers/exec producers that departed the show with him, like Chris McKenna (who's eyeing a return too : http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/dan-harmon-chris-mckenna-eye-return-to-community-for-final-installment/ ). Few shows have that much of their identity in their creator's blood.

  6. It's gonna sound awefull, but I HOPE ALL NBC'S NEW COMEDIES SUCK SO BAD... SO, SO BAD!!!

But I'm still confident we will get a sixth Season in some capacity... Hulu or Netflix should get this show if it doesn't... I just don't see why the new comedies will do better than last fall's... They will end up dropping below 1.2s... If Community can maintain it's ratings, then i believe we will get #SIXSEASONSANDAMOVIE!!!! WE'RE TOO CLOSE TO GIVE UP NOW!!!!

Seasons of 10 episodes on Netflix? I would love that!

  7. According to rumour the cast were unhappy with the S4 scripts and apparently threatened to walk so I imagine this it is happening!

  8. I'm somewhat happy about this, but please don't revert Jeff and make him lose all of his character development (it was my favorite part of last season).

  14. YES! This is FANTASTIC news! THANK YOU, Joel McHale, for whatever your role was in this, and THANK YOU Dan Harmon, for agreeing to return! And to anyone else who had a hand in it, Thank you, THANK YOU!

  15. Out of everything that happened last year (good and bad), I'm pretty sure Jeff's character development was the thing that the writers did that Dan Harmon would've done. I remember reading somewhere in the end Jeff would have to choose greendale and going to be a scummy lawyer again and he'd choose greendale which complete his arc to becoming a better person. I enjoyed Season 4 better than some, but out of everything they did, Jeff's arc was the best.

  17. What about Britta? I'm so worried that Dan Harmon is going to revert her to the dumb as rocks version we had in S3.

  21. Wow, great news!
I just wonder why is Joel responsible for it

  22. the only thing with the dreamatorium idea, even though it is a good enough loophole, is that the cannon of community changed forever when chevy chase walked and they were left with no option but to write out pierce.
hypothetically, if dan harmon did go with this idea, i don't reasonably see how they would be able to address pierce being missing from greendale.
so, unfortunately for a few people, season 4 is going to have to stick.

psyched that dan harmon is back!
bring on the community of yore!
