SUNDAY 5/19/13 Metered Markets

-Capping Off a Sluggish Season:
“Celebrity Apprentice” (NBC)
-Losers (Excluding Repeats):
“ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night” (CBS)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC inched past CBS by one-tenth of a rating point for Sunday overnight dominance, with its combination of the season-finale of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#2: 3.9 rating/7 share at 7 p.m.) and “The 2013 Billboard Music Awards,” which averaged a dominant 6.6/11 from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, this was an improvement of 22 percent from the 5.4/ 9 on the year-ago evening, which translated into 7.40 million viewers and a 2.7/ 7 among adults 18-49 (according to the live plus same day data).
CBS’ close second-place finish was a result of two hours of granddaddy “60 Minutes” (7.4/13 from 7-9 p.m.) and two-hour special “ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night,” which did not impress at a 4.0/ 7 from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, directly competing “The Billboard Music Awards” held a 65 percent advantage. Needless to say, ABC should have no trouble winning the evening in all the young adult demos.
In season-finale news, “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC concluded its below-average season exactly that way with a 3.8/ 6 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that was 27 percent below the 5.2/ 8 for the year-ago season-ender (on 5/20/12).
Earlier in the evening on the Peacock net was two encore hours of “The Voice” at a 1.8/ 3 from 7-9 p.m.
Fox, meanwhile, opened with the one-hour series finale of “The Cleveland Show,” which earned its cancellation stripes with a last-place 1.6/ 3 in the overnights from 7-8 p.m. Like any animated series (where the characters do not age), “The Cleveland Show,” which is now officially out of production, can always return at a later time. Next on Fox were the one-hour season-finale installments of “The Simpsons” (#3: 2.7/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.) and “Family Guy” (#4: 3.3/ 5 from 9-10 p.m.). Year-to-year, “The Simpsons” slipped by 13 percent in the overnights (versus a 3.1/ 5 on 5/20/12), while “Family Guy” was virtually flat.
