-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Tuesday overnight troops, as usual, thanks to its successful pairing of “NCIS” (#1 for the evening: 11.7 rating/19 share) and spin-off “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#1: 8.5/13) from 8-10 p.m. But waiting-to-be axed “Golden Boy” dropped the ratings ball at 10 p.m. with a second-place 5.2/ 9, which was 37 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of “NCIS: Los Angeles” (8.3/13) and 22 percent below year-ago occupant “Unforgettable” (6.7/11 on 5/01/12). As a reminder, “Unforgettable” returns this summer for season two.

Tops in the 10 p.m. hour was ABC News Special, “Murder Mystery: Amanda Knox Speaks – A Diane Sawyer Exclusive,” which scored a 6.4/11 in the overnights. Comparably, that was up by 14 percent from year-ago occupant “Private Practice.”

Earlier in the evening on ABC was inane reality/competition “Splash,” which was anything but with a fourth-place 3.0/ 5 at 8 p.m., followed by the live “Dancing With the Stars” Results Show at a second-place 8.0/12 at 9 p.m. Comparably, “Splash” dipped by 27 percent in the overnights from the year-ago combination of sitcoms “Last Man Standing” (4.6/ 7 on 5/01/12) and “Cougar Town” (3.6/ 6), and “Dancing With the Stars” was down by 22 percent (versus a 10.3/16).

In time period premiere news, sophomore drama “Grimm” on NBC at 10 p.m. benefited out of “The Voice,” of course, with a 3.7/ 6 in the overnights. Comparably, that was 19 percent above its season to-date overnight average in the Friday 9 p.m. hour (3.1/ 5), and 23 percent above year-ago occupant “Fashion Star” (3.0/ 5 on 5/01/12). Keep in mind, though, that the retention for “Grimm” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (7.8/12) was only 47 percent.

Overall, two hours of “The Voice” scored a solid 7.7/12 from 8-10 p.m., which finished second overall in the block and will dominate among adults 18-49 (and other young adult demos).

Fox, meanwhile, was out of the competitive loop with its line-up of “Hell’s Kitchen” (#3: 3.4/ 5), “New Girl” (#4: 2.8/ 4) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 2.0/ 3), which is not worthy of its second season renewal. Once a hot commodity, “New Girl” slipped year-to-year by 24 percent in the overnights (versus a 3.7/ 6 on 5/01/12). And The CW was barely visible care of sophomore “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which should also be bidding adieu this season, and a repeat of “America’s Next Top Model: College Edition” (#5: 0.5/ 1).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
