-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox was the network to beat on this third Wednesday in May with its combination of the final performance show of the season for “American Idol” (8.4 rating/14 share) and recent returnee “So You Think You Can Dance” (#3: 5.2/ 8), which got a boost from Tuesday’s season opener. But compared to the year-ago two-hour edition (11.8/19 on 5/16/12), “Idol” slipped by 29 percent. As for the rumors that Nicki Minaj is leaving, that is a no-brainer given the expected departures of all four of the current judges.
In season-finale news, “Arrow” concluded its successful first season on The CW with a 2.0/ 3 from 8-9 p.m., which almost tripled the year-ago overnight performance for a repeat of “America’s Next Top Model: British Edition.” In The CW’s world, this is a huge hit. Next was the season-finale of “Supernatural,” which benefited out of “Arrow” this season, with a 1.5/ 2 (#2) at 9 p.m. For news on The CW’s fall schedule, scroll down to The CW in Fall 2013: Three New Dramas, Changes on All Five Nights.
Over at CBS, back-to-back repeats of sitcom “2 Broke Girls,” which will remain in the Monday 9 p.m. half-hour next season (into new Chuck Lorre sitcom “Mom”) averaged a fourth-place 2.7/ 5 from 8-9 p.m. That led into “Criminal Minds” (#2: 6.9/11) and “CSI” (#1: 6.3/11) from 9-11 p.m., which will remain intact (out of “Survivor”) next season.
ABC’s Wednesday standout, of course, was “Modern Family” at a 7.0/11 at 9 p.m., which was equal to one year earlier (and will own the time period among adults 18-49). Comparably, that built from canceled lead-in “Family Tools” (#3: 3.2/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.) by 119 percent. Next was also axed sitcom “How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life”) at a 4.4/ 7 (#4) at 9:30 p.m., which was 13 percent above year-ago occupant “Don’t Trust the B___ in Apartment 23” (3.9/ 6 on 5/16/12). Since “Apartment 23” was granted a second season, why not give “How to Live With Your Parents” more time?
Earlier in the evening on ABC was “The Middle” at a second-place 4.8/ 8 at 8 p.m., which was on par from one year earlier. And renewed “Nashville” closed the night with a typical third-place 4.2/ 7 at 10 p.m.
Capping off the evening was NBC with its line-up of “Dateline” (#3: 4.2/ 7), “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 5.1/ 8) and “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.7/ 8). As a reminder, Wednesday next season on NBC will feature relocated “Revolution” at 8 p.m., followed by “Law & Order: SVU” and the revival of “Ironside.” “Chicago Fire” moves to Tuesday at 10 p.m. out of “The Biggest Loser” and “The Voice” from 8-10 p.m.

I really wonder if How to Live with Your Parents will get a last minute renewal or something if it does well this week and during Modern Family's finale next week...I doubt it, but you never know
ReplyDelete"Since 'Apartment 23' was granted a second season, why not give 'How to Live with Your Parents' more time?"
ReplyDeleteYeah, because Apartment 23 worked out so well for ABC (not a diss on its quality, just its ratings)
I wouldn't be surprised if How to Live gets a last minute renewal.
ReplyDeleteThe idiot thinks SPN benefits off Arrow. 1.5 isn't bad but SPN lost most of Texas to thunder storms, tornadoes, etc. I could not watch and I'm on the Texas coast. It was all the way up to Dallas. Supernatural beats Arrow in every award program out there.
ReplyDeleteThat's Marc for you, although he used to be nastier about it in his comments.
ReplyDeleteI hope the pull an "Unforgettable" and renew it.
ReplyDeleteI really hope it does.
ReplyDeleteWhy did ABC cancels "How to Live"? Not a smart decision.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural is actually up in total views quite a bit from last week. Surprised it's down in the demo, although I think it has a good chance of being adjusted up.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah forgot about "Unforgettable"
ReplyDeleteOh the irony!
Chicago Fire did very strong!!!!! GO CF!!!!
ReplyDeleteor a show that it is cancelled, HTLWYP has pretty decent ratings.
ReplyDeleteOh Marc, a show in its 8th season many times getting a higher demo than a huge hit show in its first...
ReplyDeleteA show that's been to hell (Friday) and back...
I think you mean: "Arrow" which had benefited from being a lead-in to "Supernatural" this year...
Can't wait to hear his excuses when SPN is still doing this well in its (inevitable) 10th season (on whatever night it airs!)
Not to stir the pot or anything but why isn't Supernatural a "winner" based on these ratings? I guess I should post that question at Marc's site...
ReplyDeleteGO,GO SUPERNATURAL!!!
ReplyDeleteit will probably adjust to 1.0 :)
ReplyDeleteHalf Hours
ReplyDeleteArrow
0.9/2.598
0.9/2.710
SPN
0.9/2.311
1.0/2.415
SPN adjusted up to a 1.0 in the finals
ReplyDeleteChicago Fire 2.0
Criminal Minda up to a 2,6
Nashville down to a 1.7
Modern Family up to a 3.7
because Marc doesn't want to hurt his pride
ReplyDeleteWow, what a man!!
ReplyDeletesince Supernatural moved on Tuesday
he will say the good rating supernatural has because of the Originals :/
He'll continue to do this till the show is over and he will be relived.
I don't think he loves arrow, he just HATE supernatural.!!
