That series finale was great. I loved how everyone got a happy ending, and storylines were wrapped up and resolved I would of loved an Erin Micheal scene since he was like a father to her, or hear her talking about him.
Nine years ago I watched the series premiere of this show, and all I could think was "what the hell did I just watch, that was the worst thing ever." I never thought I would love this show an be so sad to see it go.
It always aired in between other shows I enjoyed, like Scrubs, and I watched random episodes for a few years, until I saw it's charm around the fourth season. I went back and watched every episode, and started watching every episode since then. I ended up loving the show so much, and even after Michael left, I wanted it to go on. I know the past two seasons were down in quality, but it was still The Office at it's core, and still everything I loved about it.
This finale was such a great way to end it, I don't remember the last time I cheered so loud watching tv then when the camera showed Michael was there to be Dwight's best man. I can't believe it's over, but I absolutely loved how they ended it in every way.
A fantastic finale, save for the abrupt and contrived conclusion to Erin's story. Great concept but horrible execution. Honestly, it was way to telegraphed and convienent that the asker was Erin's mom.
I don't know, I think I would've liked it more had they omitted the whole thing with Erin and her biological parents, and also gave Michael a spot in the group when they were taking pictures near the end (I understand he already had his genuine send-off in Season 7 but I still don't think it would've hurt).
A great, very enjoyable finale for a great show. Was it the best episode? No. But it did wrap everything up nicely and show that they were a family, and every character got a nice resolution.
Best lines though go to Michael Scott. Believe he only spoke in 2 scenes and both stole the show. Would've liked a bit more him, definitely an Erin/Michael scene, but his presence was nice.
The only thing I could've done without was Ryan and Kelly, seeing those 2 again reminded me of why I hated them so much.
with the Retrospective and the actual episode. a magnificent curtain call for the wonderful series that had some uneven eps in the latter seasons, but overall was a wonderful show. From the nice little cameos of folks we've seen before: Kelly's pediatrician boyfriend, the realtor who sold Jim and Pam's house was the same who sold Micheal his condo (and is Mrs Steve Carell), the stripper, etc..... and of course the not so unexpected "secret Guten pranken" of Micheal appearing..... all of it just brought back floods of good memories... Nice that everyone got a good sendoff and to finally hear Creed play the guitar again since the drunk cruise ep was an extra plus. Farewell, Office, it was a good run. Thanks
see i thought ryan and kelly kind of made the episode, that relationship i found to be soooo funny over the years.... that being said Michael did have a giant impact ont he show, but i think the pam and jim thing took the cake.... easily the best ending for all the characters....sooo sad that it is over now....
Difference of opinion I guess. For me, Ryan and Kelly and their relationship was one of the worst, annoying things to watch. I completely forgot they were even on this show after a few episodes into this season.
Pam/Jim ending was nice, glad they got through their little rough patch and Pam showed Jim how much she believed in him. All in all, I liked all of their endings. And I couldn't help but smile at Michael having kids, and having 2 phones so he could have all the pictures of them.
I agreed, the first season was horrible. Started watching it from season 2, and that was a fantastic season. Good thing NBC gave the series a chance. Today, another series like the Office would not have been renewed after the first season.
I thought the best scenes were, Michael's incest line, Erin meeting her parents, and Philly's sculpture (I though it was hilarious that Stanly put birds legs on her, like Edwin Landseer substituting dog legs for lions). Toby getting fired, Creed's last name, and Angela's dirty mouth where pleasant surprises. Jam's resolution was necessary and somewhat predictable. Keven getting fired and being an owner of a bar makes amazing sense. It's also nice to see how competent Dwight became through the years.
I wish they would have done something with the film crew as well, but the storylines were great and I think they got everybody when Michael returned, after months of saying he wouldn't return.
it couldn't have ended on a better note. We got everyones storylines pretty much wrapped up, had some happy moments, had some emotional moments, and we got Michael Scott one last time (complete with a That's What She Said Joke and a touching talking head). I was laughing and crying the entire time and it was perfect
It was awesome! Such a great ending to a truly fab show. And I completely agree with everyone about Steve Carrel, I loved that they decided not to overshadow the others by bringing him back, he literally had 2 lines in the finale and they were both amazing! Besides LOST, it is the only show I've watched that hasn't ended because of cancellations, so it was great to see that it got the ending the writers wanted, and the ending the show deserved!
It was perfect, goodbye and thank you for an amazing run, all in all.
Seasons 6-9 may have had many lows compared to seasons 2-5, brilliant by all accounts, but this finale helps me keeping a positive image from the show, and that's what matters now. Because at the end of the day, The Office is one of my all-time favorite comedies and when it was good, boy was it funny.
I was crying when Michael came back and for most of the last 10 minutes, especially when Pam was speaking (amazing Jenna Fischer, as usual) :
"I didn't watch the whole documentary. After a few episodes, it was too painful. I kept wanting to scream at Pam. It took me so long to do so many important things. It's just hard to accept that I spent so many years being less happy than I could've been. Jim was 5 feet from my desk, and it took me four years to get to him. It'd be great if people saw this documentary and learned from my mistakes. Not that I'm a tragic person. I'm really happy now. But... it would just make my heart soar if someone out there saw this and she said to herself, 'Be strong. Trust yourself, love yourself. Conquer your fears. Just go after what you want. And act fast, because life just isn't that long'."
It's been an hour and my eyes are still sore, and I'm loving it ! It's important to go out on a great series finale. 30 Rock pulled it off as well and they even finished on one of their best seasons. Season 9 wasn't one of The Office's greatest seasons, definitely, but this finale will ensure people will remember this show for its best days rather than its bad ones, and The Office deserves that.
It was a good series finale. I felt like I got closure. And... I'm from Poland - the Scranton of the EU! Laughed so hard at that moment! Michael's return was really good!
The use of Michael Scott was perfect - esp. considering Steve's not wanting to overshadow the other characters - he got a "That's What She Said" and a classic Michael Scott line in. The fact was, this show was about The Office - and everyone got an end for the most part (you could argue Toby didn't - but it's Toby).
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteVery fitting for all the characters and their stories.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute perfection
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say it was great (or even good) by any means, by it was a satisfying enough conclusion, in that everyones arcs were wrapped up. .

What an incredible series finale. I cried like a girl.
ReplyDeleteBEST PRANK EVER
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing about Erin and Michael, that was the one thing I felt was missing
ReplyDeleteWe clearly didn't watch the same episoden then.
ReplyDeleteThe one I watched was incredible and made me cry.

ReplyDeleteWhat was the first instrumental song playing at the wedding? Sounds so familiar but I just can't remember...
ReplyDeletePS..YES BEST PRANK EVER!
Sweet child of mine i believe
