Beyond awesome for me... after seeing all the recent hero movie trailers, and with Iron Man 3 opening up, this ep really struck a great nerve for me.... definitely my fave of the season...
Awesome episode, love that I can say those words again! Some great origin stories and had a lot of nice callbacks to episode passed while feeling organic to the story instead of just being there to remind us of those good times. Felt a little weird without Pierce, but I am on board with Chang replacing Pierce.
My only gripe with is was that the whole Chang-mole storyline was fixed way too easily, thought the rest of the group would be involved. But Abed's way of accepting Chang was definitely nice so I can't complain about it that much.
The only thing that kept me from voting awesome were the major differences between the origin stories and the "facts" that have been slipped to us in previous eps throughout the series. Other than that,I though this was a great episode that has me hopeful for a possible season 5.
Okay, I'm not ready to see this show go, it HAS to be renewed for a fifth season or I'll go berserk.
Last week's episode, written by Jim Rash, was the best of the season (and no more Britta and Troy : FUCK YES), and this one, while not as excellent, is still pretty amazing. Season 4 is ending MUCH stronger than how it started.
Maybe some details explained here don't fit with what has been said about the characters in the previous 81 episodes, but honestly, right now I can't think of any, it all felt pretty coherent.
I like how Chang will finally be integrated to the study group as Pierce is departing (Chevy Chase will be in the season finale next week). It was now or never, and they set it up well with this episode. His lifelong dream (well, his dream since season 2) is accomplishing and he's giving up being Evil...
But I somehow feel like Chang will have to pay for his sins, because of his actions, and "sacrifice" himself to save Greendale from Dean Speck's giant Spider (or something like that) - much like when Pierce (the true Evil figure among the study group) saved the day at the end of the Season 2 paintball. We'll see, but Chang's situation feels too good to be true, payback will come when City College attacks.
I have to say the writers may not have the polished touch of Dan Harmon with them anymore but they do things right : they broke off Britta/Troy (no actual couples among this show about FRIENDS - except Vicky/Neil and Dean/Jeff, they're cool), they had Jeff reunite with his father (with no happy ending on that part, and that's coherent), they had Chang embrassing evil once more with an alliance with City College (it was in the season 3 final montage, dealing with it was unavoidable, and so was the huge plot involving invading Greendale in some way - not with tanks, but with a spider apparently). Plot-wise, it's on the right track : when I finished episode 3.22, that was the conclusion I was hoping for episode 4.22 4.13.
Also, the origin story of Magnitude's Pop Pop was hilarious !
Did you guys saw the Season Final promo? My God! It was just plain awefull!!!! Community was meta? Yes! But never a sci-fi show!!!! I mean... They actually cross through the prime-timeline!!!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I don't like this season very much, but I absolutely love Jeff's character development!

ReplyDeleteBest of the entire season by a wide margin. Awesome (for the first time all year)
ReplyDeleteStill like the Convention ep the most, especially with the Jeff/Annie, but this is possibly number 2 for the season.
ReplyDeleteFabulous episode. Season 4 just keeps on getting better!
ReplyDeleteWho do you have to Chang to get a season 5 renewal around here?
