Could it be this year's Moonrise Kingdom ? Yes, besides having a kid as the main character, I do believe The Young and Prodigious Spivet is a contender for the title of best film of 2013.
Appealing scenery, gorgeous photography, colorful characters, whimsical feeling, story with a heart : if it seems like a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film, it's because it is. It will be Jeunet's second film shot in English after his only Hollywood experience, the fourth installment of the Alien saga. But this time, it's a Franco-Canadian production.
Titled L'extravagant voyage du jeune et prodigieux T.S. Spivet, it will be released in theaters 16th October 2013 in France, 23rd October in Switzerland & Belgium, and undoubtedly in many more countries at the end of the year.
Director : Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, La Cité des Enfants Perdus, Alien Resurrection, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles, Micmacs à Tour-Larigot).
Written by : Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillaume Laurant, based on the book by Reif Larsen.
Produced by : Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Frédéric Brillion, Brian Oliver & Gilles Legrand.
Cast :
- Kyle Catlett as T. S. Spivet.
- Jakob Davies as Layton.
- Niamh Wilson as Gracie.
- Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Clair.
- Callum Keith Rennie as Father.
- Judy Davis as Jibsen.
- Dominique Pinon in an unspecified role (he always has a part in Jeunet's films).
PS: I put the Californication & The Killing labels because of Callum Keith Rennie's supporting role here. I thought fans of these shows would like to know he'll be part of one of the best films of the year from a wonderful director.
Looks adorable!
