Looks alright. Not overly original (it's a gangster story about the difficulty of redemption), but there's a great cast all around, and there have many many examples of how a great directing and cast can give appeal to an unappealing synopsis, so I'll be there. It's co-written by James Gray, an underrated director whose new film The Immigrant will arrive at the end of the year, and it stars Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard, who's also in this Blood Ties.
It should be mentioned that this is the remake of a 2008 film, Les Liens du Sang (it means... "Blood Ties"), from Jacques Maillot, starring François Cluzet and... Gullaume Canet, director of this English-language remake (and that film itself is the adaptation of a biography called Deux frères, flic et truand, the true story of the two brothers at the center of the film).
Guillaume Canet is a rare example of a great actor turned great director with several great films to prove it : Mon idole, Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One), Les petits mouchoirs (Little White Lies), writer of Jappeloup : all of them are very good.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This really doesn't look good, and I learned practically nothing from the trailer. Something about changing...I think.
