Roland Emmerich has begun development on a ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ miniseries, retelling the famous tale iconically brought to life by Peter O’Toole and director David Lean, but where will the new ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ set up shop?
”T.E. Lawrence was undoubtedly one of the greatest military and political strategists of our time and a stunningly intrepid Englishman who tried to unite the Arab world,” said FremantleMedia CEO David Ellender. “The heritage of this story is fascinating – beyond the historical element, it’s a personal tale of emotional turmoil, identity crisis, conflicting loyalties and individual brilliance. The Middle East and Arab Spring as we know them today are linked to Lawrence’s actions, which make this epic incredibly topical. I am delighted that we are working with partners of such high-caliber to bring this project to the screen.”

TE Lawrence was a fascinating and complex man. I wonder if they will deal only with the WWI years, or if they will get into his whole complex life. I'll definitely be watching.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to feel about this. On one hand (if done well) it could be interesting because the character and the story are interesting.
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand, I think the movie has done such a great job with telling this story, I don't think there's much room for retelling. I could be wrong though.
actually, i missed the movie: So u say, it's def. worth watching it?
ReplyDeleteIt's an amazing movie so yes I would definitely recommend it. (it's 4 hours long though...)
ReplyDeleteIt has been credited with some historical inaccuracies but then again what biographical pic hasn't....
4 hours? uff... however, the movie is on my list now! Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm super excited about this. I love the film, but I think it would be fascinating to see a 21st century take on his life.
ReplyDeleteIt's been credited with biographical errors too. One of the reporters who covered Lawrence extensively in Arabia complained at length about the portrayal of him (as well as the historical inaccuracies). He was just kind of mad people would see LOA and believe it as fact. I'm a huge fan of the man and the film (I own that massive deluxe special edition blu-ray set released earlier this year), have read Seven Pillars of Wisdom and several biographies written about him. So I'm on the fence about it for several reasons, mostly because of the political links they may want to make with the mention of the Arab Spring.
ReplyDeleteWell my approach with biographical movies is to take EVERYTHING with a ton of salt. People who watch the movie (or any boi flick) and consider it fact are clearly misguided.
ReplyDeleteIt still doesn't ruin the movie for me. I think it's a cinematographic masterpiece.
