US Doctor Who fans are being urged to keep the plot of Saturday's finale secret after DVDs of the series were sent out early in error.
BBC Worldwide said "a small number" of fans had been sent pre-ordered DVDs three weeks early.
It asked those with the DVD not to reveal plot details which would ruin the "viewing pleasure" of others.
It promised footage of current Doctor Matt Smith with predecessor David Tennant "if everyone keeps the secret".
"A small number of US Doctor Who fans have received their series seven part two DVD three weeks early," BBC Worldwide said in a statement.
"We are asking fans who may have the discs not to divulge plot details so that fellow fans who have yet to see the episodes do not have their viewing pleasure ruined."
It said BBC Worldwide was "currently investigating how this has happened".
It added executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat had promised the special video featuring Smith and Tennant if the secret was kept.

Tbh, I think that the Tennant/Smith clip was probably due to be shown anyway, but I do hope that it isn't leaked as I know a lot of people will be very upset at being spoiled via social media. There's loads of fake spoilers floating about already, so it's not difficult to believe that real ones would make the rounds too :(

ReplyDeleteAnd if one person spoils it then they punish everyone by not releasing a clip they were clearly going to anyway... Punish the entire world... Including everyone in the UK who can't even access the episode to spoil it... but have funded its existence....

Spoilers don't hurt my viewing pleasure so I have been on there a fair bit, it's amazing how many people have jumped on the band wagon and are blogging completely false info at the moment, lol. But as the post in the USA gets delivered today and if anyone else gets their copy early I think it's possible more real spoilers could turn up :(

ReplyDeleteHow would it be in their interests to release it early in the united states when there's a huge risk that it will be leaked online? Given that the finale is likely to be the highest rated episode after the premiere, they'll want the Nielsen figures to be good so they can secure a good ad spend on the next series. Having it available on the internet pre-air would just reduce the ratings.

A Twitter filter to block any show you want to avoid spoilers etc. IT is called Twivo can there is a short video on Yahoo about it.

And what if it's not actually avaliable online? There are no real spoilers (just theories that the fans have been working out for weeks) or any leak. The only actual things that we've seen are a few pictures of the episode. Maaaaaaybe the BBC/Moffat has talked some people into doing all this to raise the hype.

ReplyDeleteI've been looking for spoilers for days - mostly because I'm worried that Moffat is pulling his same stunt and I want to be prepared for that misery.
ReplyDeleteFind anything? I really just think this is a really bad stunt... while I don't think Moffat himself is behind it, someone must be. The big suits at the top with do anything to make more cash.
