Castle - Season 5 Statistics Summary / Finale Ratings Poll

(Check out my website, www.seriesmonitor.com)

Despite the last 10 episodes of this season of Castle earning a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating or higher, the ratings average for all 23 episodes that have aired to date, sits at just 2.04.
It's a similar deal with Castle's audience numbers this season, with the average sitting at 10.18 million viewers per episode. All of the last 8 episodes have equaled or bettered that audience level

The ratings for Castle this season have sat between 1.7 and 2.3 - with the episode that earned that sole 1.7 being 'Secret Santa' - Castle's first ever Christmas episode. No other episode this season has earned a 1.7 rating, and just one episode has come away with a 1.8 rating.

That leaves the remaining 21 episodes this season sitting between a 1.9 and 2.3 rating - a 0.4 point difference, which shows that despite ratings not being as high as previous seasons, they are very consistent. For comparison, season 4 of Castle saw ratings fluctuate between a 3.2 in the premiere 'Rise' and a 2.0 - a 1.2 point fluctuation.

Looking at Live+7 ratings gains for a minute. Castle has seen its season average L+SD ratings rise from 2.04, to 3.05 this season - a gain of 49.5%. Season average audiences have grown from 10.18 million viewers, to 13.691 million viewers - a gain of 16.7%. Bear in mind that this data is three weeks behind the current Live+SD data, and when another weeks worth of Live+7 data is released tomorrow, these averages will change again

Now for the poll question, and it's pretty simple: Will Castle's finale earn a 2.3 or above rating, or 2.2 or below rating?
Bear in mind that 2.3 is the current ratings season high, and that the last 2 episodes have both earned 2.0 ratings.

Thanks for reading and voting! Enjoy the finale!

  1. I sooo want it to crack 2.3 or above but its not very realistic. Best thing abt season 5 ratings is the stability which most other ABC shows lacked this season. So Castle is doing fine. S6 here we come.

  2. I don't think the finale will pull huge numbers. I trust Andrew Marlowe to make the finale great but to the average viewer I'm sure a career choice, which many think has a predictable foregone conclusion, is not a very exciting finale.

  6. I'll go with a 2.3 or 2.4... But not more than that... For a show on it's fifth Season, Castle still manages to earn money by ratings, that's cool...

After Season 4 shows tend to decline on ratings, but they fight that earning money by syndication. Castle stills can compete with H50 and Revolution(Shows with 3 and 1 seasons) on the ratings departmen.

That's a good sing for Castle and H50 or a bad sign for new shows like Revolution...

No new show could pulled the +3.0 that new shows pulled back on 2009, for example... I believe people are fine with the shows they watch or don't have the time to watch more and so, they don't seem to need any new ones...
