Have to be a tie between The Count and Malcolm. Both have such a different approaches to villainy(Malcolm's calculated malice versus Count's chaotic insanity) and both have charisma and acting chops to pull it off
This is difficult. Malcolm/Dark Archer is good. Deadshot is good. Fyres is good. The Huntress (albeit that I hate her) is good. Even the Count, despite how utterly creepy he was, was a good villain. But I really liked Cyrus Vanch (David Anders).
None to be honest. This show has some really crappy villains, especially if you want to take things rather seriously and you're not a fan ot the comics.
Out of the pick it's Dark Archer or Deadshot for me, it's ashame they're nothing like their comic-book equivalents but never mind. I also kinda liked Slade's old partner Billy Wintergreen with the whole torturing scenes.
The most interesting to me is Moira because that is going to be a royal mess when it comes to a head. However the one I am most interested in seeing again, and not full on crazy, is The Count. I think when/if Tommy turns evil he will end up being the biggest antagonist.
I have not read the comics and I agree that sometimes the villains come off as too cartoony, especially The Count. It would be awesome to have one that wasn't so cheesy, but I have a feeling Tommy might fill that role. I think we need a more personal connection to the villains which is why Deadshot might end up being a great villain if we can get past the eye.
I think it's likely that Oliver will forgive Moira and that she'd want to make up for her wrongs. We already know she wants out of the Undertaking and is against Malcolm's plan for the Glades. Thus, I can't see her as a villain.
I'm picking Malcolm mostly because we don't know much about him and he looks the most dangerous because he isn't an outright villain. He's very deceitful.
I debated whether or not to include her in the poll, and ended up deciding the change the title of it from "favorite *villain*" to "favorite antagonist" because that word is more neutral. I agree that she's less of an antagonist than she seemed in the beginning, but still, she is (or at least was) involved with the main conspiracy and the Undertaking.
Well, she threatened the people Oliver loves and he ended up trying to kill her because he couldn't stop her otherwise. But that's part of the reason I used the world "antagonist" in the poll's title rather than "villain". It's a more neutral word, in that the character is working against the hero of the story but they aren't necessarily evil in and of themselves.
I have to say, I'm surprised so many people like The Count. I found him way over-the-top and cartoonish. I gather people are fans of Seth Gabel from Fringe; I didn't watch it so I don't know how he did there, but on this show I thought it was a really exaggerated performance (of course, it was probably how he was directed to play The Count rather than his own acting choice).
I agree it was way, way overplayed. That's why I would like to see The Count return but not crazy. I do know the actor from Fringe and I think he could play a great antagonist if they would tone him down and give him an interesting backstory. Things between Oliver and him are personal now and I don't think you can have a really great villain without it being somewhat personal with the hero.
The poll actually says antagonist instead of villain and I took that into account. She may not be a villain (well not yet) but she is definitely an antagonist of Oliver's plans. I think it will be interesting what happens once Malcolm dies or gets taken out of play, and he pretty much has to from where I am standing. Moira is a character in flux right now to me and I can see her going either way.
I don't see her as an antagonist of Oliver's plans because I think they are both unknowingly trying to work on the same side. She wanted to kill Malcolm to prevent him from killing those people, and Oliver wants to do the same. She just doesn't know that Oliver is Arrow.
He was much better at his second episode, when he was drugged, lol. I do think he has potential to become an interesting villain when he returns again, especially if he knows Oliver's identity now, but he was over the top in the Vertigo episode.
I am slowly catching up on the eps; just watched 1.13, and I didn't think I would enjoy this show as much as I am. Of all the 'villains' so far, I like Moira Queen the best, for she manges to seem so good and motherly while hiding her secrets. X I also like Edward Fyers. I love the island part of the story. It's been really interesting watching the gradual transformation of a young spoiled 'Ritchie Rich' into a different person altogether.
I don't have a fav villain. I hate all of them as in I want them gone as soon as possible. Which is why I love watching this show because I know that Oliver WILL defeat each one of them, although for some it'll take quite some time like Helena and Dark Archer.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Other: The Count
ReplyDeleteBARROWMAN!!
ReplyDeleteI mean you know, Malcolm ;)

ReplyDeleteThe Dark Archer with Deadshot next. I don't think Moira is evil but I think she did what she did to survive.
ReplyDeleteThis is difficult. Malcolm/Dark Archer is good. Deadshot is good. Fyres is good. The Huntress (albeit that I hate her) is good. Even the Count, despite how utterly creepy he was, was a good villain. But I really liked Cyrus Vanch (David Anders).

ReplyDeleteI haven't read the comics and I find enough villains to be compelling enough in this show.
ReplyDeleteClose between Malcolm and Fyers but I went with Merlyn. Can't believe The Huntress has so many votes! I find her so annoying!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm! Definitely Malcolm!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's mysterious, very dangerous, Ollie still doesn't know anything about him, and John Barrowman!!! \o/

ReplyDeleteOther:The Count.
ReplyDelete2nd favorite:The Huntress.
Wintergreen
ReplyDeleteDude was evil. I wonder if he is still alive like Deadshot is or if he really died.

ReplyDeleteYou mean Captain Jack Harkness! :P
ReplyDeleteMalcolm. It's looking like he's going to turn to be a pretty interesting multi-dimensional character.
ReplyDeleteMalcolmn/Dark Archer and Moira Queen for me
ReplyDeleteOther. The Count.
ReplyDeleteMalcolm Merlyn/The Dark Archer, but I would like to see more to "China White".
ReplyDeletei have a feeling Tommy is going to end up like the Dark Archer
ReplyDeletethe Huntress is a antagonist? i thought she is just a Anti hero like Oliver/Green Arrow, just leaning more towards the Anti
ReplyDeleteThe Count. Want to see him return.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't see her as an antagonist either and think she'll probably Oliver the next time she appears
ReplyDeleteI'm picking Malcolm mostly because we don't know much about him and he looks the most dangerous because he isn't an outright villain. He's very deceitful.
ReplyDeleteI just don't consider Moira as an antagonist.
ReplyDeleteThe count!! He was insane and awesome. But mainly I just love Seth gabel
ReplyDeleteMalcolm, even if he hasn't done much of anything yet. This poll just shows that villains aren't Arrow's strength.
ReplyDeleteHe has done enough already, he killed Frank, Robert, and Sara, plans to kill thousands at the Glades, and almost killed Oliver.
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't feel his presence on the show. Maybe if they gave him for than 30 seconds of screentime...

ReplyDeleteI feel like she just got dragged into the conspiracy and now she's trying to get out through any means possible.
