Keeping with tradition, the first list only includes a limited number of projects that have been garnering strong early buzz as the vast majority of pilots are still filming or going through post-production.

Typically the only pilot I care for (SHIELD) is of course getting no buzz as its all so secretive! Damn I can't wait for this show.
ReplyDeleteI love it when Deadline starts doing these. This is when pilot season really starts to get fun. You pick your favorites from each network and you follow them to the finish. It's like betting on a really long horse race.
ReplyDeletei have heard so many people talking about how much they look forward to shield but what is shield actually about ?
ReplyDeleteI want the selection, i hope it makes it.
ReplyDeleteCome on Selection! You can do it! They would be stupid not to pick it up.. but this is the same network who pulled Veronica Mars so I won't hold out much faith yet.
ReplyDeleteIts about the avengers, from marvel. Its even made by the same producer or director as the movie. Normally I love marvel comic stuff but the movie was really bad so i don't have much hope for the show.
ReplyDeleteThis show will have nothing to do with the Avengers.
ReplyDeletebut isnt it a synopsis for this show
ReplyDeleteNellie doesn't realize Inhuman and been changed to 'Human.' Looking forward to that and Believe.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, The Avengers was awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's about the SHIELD agents, not the Avengers.
It's about a secret government agency who handle superheroes and stuff like Iron Man.
ReplyDeleteIt won't have the same actors as the movie but its about the same story. SHIELD is the a organization of superheroes run by government agents from the marvel comics. In the comics there were various members like iron man, spiderman, thor. I don't know who will be in the tv show. The show is being produced with marvel involved so its probably won't be to different from the comic books.
ReplyDeleteComing from the network that ran 90210 for how many seasons?
ReplyDeleteWasn't 90210 a ratings success at least in it's earlier seasons?
ReplyDelete"The Mary Queen of Scots period piece Reign is getting points for its visuals"
ReplyDeleteHopefully that's not the ONLY good thing being said about it....
Hm from ABC I'm looking forward to Venice, Gothica, and Big Thunder and Returned. From FOX I'm excited about Inhuman and Sleepy Hollow, from The CW I'll be interested to see whatever they choose, I guess. NBC, The Sixth Gun and Believe.
ReplyDeleteFrom CBS there is absolutely nothing I want to see.
And Lost and Revolution! :P
ReplyDeleteBut I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for set link though! Karl Urban in particular has me very excited!
Unless they changed it back????
ReplyDeleteI think I have a list about 6 or 7 I will probably at least check out if they get picked up!!
Human
Believe
Intelligence
The Sixth Gun
The Hundred
Sleepy Hallow
The Ordained
Is something like Reign or The Selection even doable on a network budget, especially CW? They sound so expensive
ReplyDeleteNot to sure about that one, I watched half an episode and switched off, how it got 5 years is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteIf either one of these shows get picked up, I think the CW will at the very least expect 1's in the demo.
ReplyDeleteFunny that there's no mention of The CW's non-genre pilots Blink an Company Town. I hope at least of of the two makes it.
ReplyDeleteSo The Originals is a lock but I need TTP to make it as well. Oxygen would be good too!
I think the reason the way it looks visually is mentioned is because it's on The CW, and both Reign and The Selection are set in far off time periods and each one needs to look good on its budget or it would ruin it. Even if Reign is well-written if I don't like the costumes, sets and cinematography I wouldn't watch it.
ReplyDeleteEvery year deadline says that on a pilot and it doesnt get picked up in the end :)
ReplyDeleteGood ratings doesn't coincide with quality, at least that's what people say about CBS shows.
ReplyDeleteAccording to some french review site, the Selection script is better than Reign's.
ReplyDeleteWell I disagree. The CW is notorious for pulling good shows.. but I do understand your point about the ratings.
ReplyDeleteThis french site has been reviewing pilot scripts:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.desnewsenseries.fr/archives/script_reviews/index.html
Google translate ftw!
It is. It's much sexier and high stakes.
ReplyDeleteHave you read the script?
ReplyDeleteI've heard that the script is more "The Bachelor" than "Hunger Games". Is that still true?
So, Human or Inhuman or whatever they decide to call JJ's project.
ReplyDeleteI'll give SHIELD a shot, but keeping the hopes low.
Supernatural has been on the air since 2005, and on The CW since 2006, 7 seasons have aired on the CW ready for an 8th (9th overall)
ReplyDeleteYou think that The Selection has a chance to premiere in the 2's? Seriously? ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow People and The Sixth Gun. We'll see about the others.
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow People
ReplyDeleteI heard that both are still under production.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing bad about Human is that Minka Kelley is on the show. Expect that, im really giving it a thumb up.
ReplyDeleteI dont understand that people who downvotes comments like this from Brucey. I also agree that this starts the fun. Also im really glad for these roundups by Nellie on Deadline. She had a quite good overview of the pilots that were going to get picked up a week before the upfronts last year.
ReplyDeleteNot 2's but at least a 1.5 or something.
ReplyDeleteFrom a neogaf thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=508088&page=6
ReplyDelete- Have heard that the "Big Thunder" script is good.
- The McCarthy's is their favorite script.
- The Sixth Gun is one of the few good drama scripts.
Well the other options are for the network to move production to Canada or some place in the states and try to keep a similar look as the pilot, but of course quality won't be as good as the initial first episode. The other option is to make it an event series that only airs 10-15 episodes each season so that they can film it in Europe and maintain the budget, kind of like Game of Thrones?
ReplyDeleteDeadline does have the best coverage on this stuff. Sooner or later, The Hollywood Reporter will jump in on this as will TV Guide and TV Line but Deadline seems to be more consistent.
ReplyDeleteTVLine is almost like a gossip-site when it comes to spoilers and tv. They`re not doing anything with an depth coverage. When it comes to their performer of the week-articles it`s mostly just things said by others critics and re-written. Their casting is just shared with Deadline (or ends up going to just one or the other site), because they`re owned by the same people.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to pilots, it`s just Deadline and Variety. And the last one is just basically a school-newspaper at times.
Is it me or is pretty much everything getting solid or at least decent buzz.... usually there are some CLEARLY labeled stinkers during this process....
ReplyDeleteI love pilot season, very exciting. Anyway, my thoughts:
ReplyDelete- Very happy that Big Thunder is a front runner, I want to see that one very much.
- I continue to be shocked that they think the returned can make it in today's broadcast landscape, but maybe that is just me..
- I don't have an opinion on the ABC comedies but I don't know where do they intend to put so many of them unless they can all 4 of their bubble comedies (The Neighbours, Malibu Country, How to Live and Happy Endings, and even then it would be tricky)
- The FOX comedy news are interesting because it does suggest to me that they will keep the 4 hour of comedy on the Monday-Thursday schedule but split between two days. My guess is that New Girl and Mindy stay put, a new drama takes over Tuesdays at 8 and the male skewing comedies get launched behind the X-Factor on Thursdays. Raising Hope will likely be send to fridays for its final season.
- On the drama side from Fox, surprised there is no mention to Delirium, I thought that one was buzzy.
- I find the news concerning CBS the most interesting because it does confirm that they are indeed planning on expand their comedy time, which makes sense considering the ridiculous high amount of high profile comedy pilots they have. I would go for Mom, Super Clyde and Friends with Better Lives. This last one sounds like the perfect replacement for How I Met Your Mother, so they should pair them up in the former's final season. If they don't pick Super Clyde because it is a single cam, they can try the Greg Garcia one. I wouldn't go for Crazy Ones, that doesn't sound like hit potential, regardless of the buzz in the casting department. But maybe it is just me.
- I want Intelligence picked up badly, so I am sad to see it is not a major frontrunner. At least it still has odds. Other than that, not surprised that NCIS-Red and Beverly Hill Cops are the frontunners. But if they are going to add one hour of comedy and still add three new dramas, having renewed already bubble show the mentalist, their only choice is to timeshare the amazing race and survivor, or else there is no place on the schedule. Are they really going for that? Doesn't seem very CBSish, as that involves a looot of changes in the schedule, which they don't like.
-Happy about the buzz regarding Believe and The Sixth Gun. I would place one after the voice on mondays and the other after the voice on tuesdays leading into revolution (likely believe since they share the jj abrams element). Surprised about no buzz for after hours though. I am Victor sounds like a flop in the making though.
- The fact that they are not looking into too many comedies makes me hopeful that they will cut back their comedy hours to only thursdays next season. That would be the right thing for them to do.
- So so happy that the hundred is hot! I really want that one! Also, it stars henry ian cusick and I adore him ever since his Desmond days! Surprised that the tomorrow people and the selection are not sure things, especially the later. Also surprised that reign is still somehow in the running. Oxygen I still say that should be a midseason pickup. I would go for The Originals on Thursdays, the selection leading off tuesdays into hart of dixie, and the hundread and the tomorrow people paired up in revamped mondays. Leave wednesdays alone. beauty and the beast can either be canceled or send to fridays.
Every network is "notorious" for pulling good shows. That's because the quality of the show doesn't matter. It's a business.
ReplyDeleteThey said they would not post negative comments they heard until next time since it is too early so pilots not mentioned are probably the stinkers
ReplyDeleteStill I could say the majority of the pilots for next year is included in here.
