Supernatural - 8.18 - Freaks and Geeks - Podcast
1 Apr 2013
Podcast SupernaturalHey there all you wayward sons and daughters! Welcome back to another episode of the Team Winchester Podcast. Up for dissection this week, episode 8.18: Freaks & Geeks. This week saw Dahne being the more upbeat one and Lilith was close to being 1000% done. But the gals did manage to strike the balance of nitpicking and finding the good in a filler episode (but what ended up on the cutting room was so much juicier, wish you could have been there). So come on in and see if you agree, disagree or fall somewhere in between with their final conclusions this week.
PS: The Summer of SPN Fan League will be forming soon. Stay tuned or email us for more information. Registration starts April 7, 2013. Tons of fun, games and prizes. Hope you decide to join us!

Some much to nitpick and groan at in this episode but I still thought Krissy was far less annoying than last time, Josephine straight out rocked, and there were some good scenes in it to boot.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for taking time to put out these podcasts.
ReplyDeleteI can't comment on the details of the episode as I haven't yet had the urge to watch it, but the introduction of these types of characters who seem to be more capable or at least on a par with Sam and Dean, is for me detracting from the importance of the brothers.
X
When the show started, Sam and Dean were unique; they were special; innocents throw ino a terrible life of hunting, but now if even young teens can do what they suffered so much to become experts in, that is hunting monsters, then it turns Sam and Dean's epic story into that of a couple of run of the mill hunters, nothing more nothing less.
Rufus, Bobby, Ellen, John etc, were more than capable and experienced yet they died, while twe're to believe that three little teens can do the job just as well.
X
The writers seem to be taking pleasure in turning Sam and Dean into cardboard characters, making every guest star or secondary character better smarter, and more sympathetic than them.
X
Then sidelining Sam in nearly every episode, and making him harp on continuously about wanting normal is getting not old, but prehistoric!
Unless the actor is going to leave, Sam will always be part of the story and giving him a normal life has already been tried with Amelia; an effort which seems to have satisfied very few viewers, so as it's probably never going to happen, just don't keep making the character say it over and over.
X
Gosh, i remember the days when Sam would give us a lovely wide toothy smile. I can't recall if he has this season; he's just been so depressing. :(
Sam was more than sidelined this episode and it was a major sticking point to many people. I too am getting irritated with secondary characters being the brightest, most capable, most shiny pennies in the bucket. It's dreary to watch the core of the show - two brothers who hunt evil and save people - disappear right before my eyes. I can't imagine it getting better next year when both Jensen and Jared have kids either. Supernatural is just not the same these days and it's a real pity.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a sort of reply to this on another thread a minute ago and as I'm too lazy to rewrite a different one; I'll copy it here as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's about the J's having less time on screen.:)
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
[[ + I think the 'more time off' thing is generally a rather lame excuse for the bad season.
X
What exactly does that mean anyway?
Let's say the J's only work three days a week now, instead of five.
That would mean that for at least half an episode anyway, they could be on-screen together, working the case or whatever.
X
Then from what it seems, they are getting paid more; what employer gives his workers more money for doing less work?
X
Anyway both guys have a steady job on the show and the very fact that
they have families to keep now, should make them even more enthusiastic
about their work.
X
Perhaps they might get better roles when Spn ends but there is no
certainty of that, and as Jared once said when you do films and things,
no-one cares about giving you time off for family affairs; it's not the
same as working on SPN.
X
Anyway lots of actors have families but that doesn't affect their work so i don't see why it should for the J's.+ ]]
