Possibly, though given the content of the episode that we've seen from the trailers, that might have also been a factor.

ReplyDeleteOh relax. I'm allowed to wanna watch a television show I enjoy. Maybe I don't feel being glued to the tv and Facebook to watch coverage of this is how i wanna live my life . I am showing respect. Do you want me to cry and not go on with my life. Terrible stuff happens everyday. People die everyday. I refuse to let terrorists control what I do. I suggest you do the same

ReplyDeleteI've shown respect on multiple forum threads, and Facebook pages covering this topic. I had nothing to do with the violence that killed atleast 2 people, and injured countless others. Why should we (as tv viewers) be made to suffer, for the acts of 1 or more mad men?

ReplyDeleteaccording to TVbythenumbers, ABC and Fox may pre-empt programming but CBS will stick to original schedule, I could honestly see The Following not airing because of it's harsh content

ReplyDeleteIf they really wanted to show respect, they wouldn't show several hours worth of footage, with the bombings, mutilated people and senseless violence. But then again, this is the US we're talking about. The nation who once aired the hostilities during Desert Storm, solely because it got good ratings.

OK, City TV in Canada made a Facebook post SIX MINUTES AGO about Revolution on tonight. I've inquired to see what they have to say on the matter of whether or not this is a rerun or the regularly scheduled episode.

ReplyDeleteRevolution could replace unnecessary Ready for Love for tomorrow. In fact, I think Ready for Love should be preempted and air something else more worthy.
ReplyDeleteIt's so horrible! I've been glued to NPR and CNN all afternoon and evening. As much as I was looking forward o Revolution, I'm glad NBC is taking this seriously. My thoughts are with Boston tonight.

ReplyDeleteYes, because viewing and reporting real life events should be a priority in so far precarious and tragic situation, and especially given the nature/subject matter of Revolution itself, it's not a time to "celebrate" revolts/acts of terrorism by watching a show about it, while 3 people have now lost their lives (one possibly an 8 yr old boy), 10 have been amputated, 86 are injured, and Boston continues to a crime scene possibly full of more explosive devices as hospitals and other areas are on lock down! IMO this is good taste on NBC's part
ReplyDeleteSeeing all the shots of blood-soaked pavement, people collapsing from shrapnel, is not good taste. Our media thrives on presenting over and over again images of death, tragedy, and crime. I don't need an entire evening with them saying the same information all night long and if you do, great, more power to you, that's what CNN and MSNBC and others are for.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying our media doesn't over do it, but the truth is, anyone can turn off the tv, put in a movie, go out, read a book, ect. My bigger point was that Revolution airing tonight might seem insensitive, because people did die and get hurt today and it's not over yet. You hopefully will see Revolution whenever they air it, but some people won't be able see loved ones or be able to run in a marathon ever again! The fact that you want to ignore it and go on merry way scares me more than the bombings.

ReplyDeleteLiterally hundreds of people die EVERY DAY, in various wars, conflicts and hell even natural causes. Why doesn't the media report all of these deaths? Because they aren't as "sensational". They don't give as good "ratings".
ReplyDeleteThere's always CNN, MSNBC, Fox News et al if you want to check up on the latest news. Why replace scripted programming, when there are actual news stations that report the news? Revolution was scripted long before this awful tragedy occured. Why should the show, or it's viewers be punished?
Yes, it's true, but it should sting harder when it's closer to home! Our media does sensationalize, no doubt, but the point wasn't about sensationalism, it was about having respect by not airing a show that, as a fantasy, makes light of similar subject matter. Just because something is sensationalized doesn't mean we should counter-desensitize to the point where, we shouldn't care about how others are feeling.

ReplyDeleteBecause I find the media coverage disgusting (and let's be clear, it's the sensationalizing and leaping on the tragedy and showing things that are highly insensitive to the families that *were* affected) that means I'm scarier than the bombings? Nice to know.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way. I wasn't surprised by this but I was looking forward to an hour of fun and not the horribleness of today's tragedy. However if tonights episode did feature a bombing it was the right move on NBC's part to preempt the show. With that said I hate seeing the media turn a tragedy into another way of gaining ratings. If I wanted to know more I would go online or to one of the 24 hour news channels. I would have rather have seen Revolution if for no other reason than to have one hour of today where I was fighting back tears and trying not to let the knots in my stomach cause me to get sick. I instead watched Castle and had an entire hour of laughter something I think many of us needed today. Just sometime for us to calm down and remember that even after this horrible event there are things that can make us smile and that it's OK to say that episode was great or that was fun I'm glad I watched.

ReplyDeleteEven if they this is about seeking ratings (and why shouldn't it be, tv is still a business It doesn't run for free.), doesn't still mean that in Revolution's case that it wasn't also the sensitive thing to do.
ReplyDeletePeople take liberty for granted here. We could live in a country where we are never told anything and/or where we are not aloud to talk about what's happening. Instead we have a money-making over sensationalized media, but we know that we do and we're aloud to talk about it and we are aloud to not support the industry by not watching...
It looks like next Monday (So unless they eventually air 2 together, it looks like everything is just pushed back a week). NBC's official Revolution website has yesterday's episode, "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia" for next Monday, April 22.

You always have the option to not watch it, but again I would rather have an over sensational media, then a media that makes us watch cartoons all day long, as sweeping things under the rug IMO does not make it better and does not provide justice (as justice is a kind of respect). ReplyDeleteIMO It's to disrespectful to air those gruesome events, because, besides those who were injured and lost their lives, should others like law enforcement & medical staff, be represented and honored for doing their jobs (they have families too!), as this is not just about an every day event here in the US in which people tragically lost their lives, but it is massive crime scene that comes with public events and security concerns, which then expand to all of us. By being able to see and be continiously updated about it, "we" all over the US and around the world can come together and attempt to understand and be there for all of the people involved. --Not in many countries can have all if it's people be joined like this. Blood and pavement have not been the only things I have seen either, I have seen stories of people saving the lives of other people. I have heard stories about how generous the Bostonians are being, providing many accommodations I've seen stories about Male runners shielding female runners, Doctors in the race being able to stop and help...Not everything that aired was focusing on the bloody injuries! So who's the sensationalist now?
