-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC topped this fourth Monday in April in the overnights, with a 26 percent advantage over second-place NBC. But the home of “The Voice” will clearly rule among adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos). And year-to-year, NBC increased by 26 percent overall for the night while ABC was down by 19 percent. “Dancing With the Stars” is still a force, but “The Voice” is a much hotter show.
“Dancing With the Stars” won the 8-10 p.m. block in the overnights with a 9.7 rating/15 share, which was 10 percent above competing “The Voice” (8.8/13). But, year-to-year, “The Voice” rose by a hefty 40 percent (versus a 6.3/ 9 on 4/23/12). And “Dancing With the Stars” dipped by 24 percent (versus a 12.8/19). Keep in mind that both faced all repeats on CBS, which is no longer the Monday competitor it once was.
Tops in the overnights at 10 p.m. was “Castle” on ABC with a 7.8/13, which bested competing “Revolution” on NBC (#2: 4.0/ 7) by 95 percent. And the retention for “Castle” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Dancing With the Stars” (10.1/15) was respectable at 77 percent. But “Revolution” is still the show to beat in the time period among adults 18-49 (which included a repeat of “Hawaii Five-O” on CBS at a 3.5/ 6).
Third overall for the evening was Fox with its perfectly compatible combination of veteran “Bones” and freshman “The Following” each at a 4.7/ 7 in the overnights.
Elsewhere, aforementioned CBS populated the evening with encores of “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 3.0/ 5), “Rules of Engagement” (#4: 3.5/ 5), “2 Broke Girls” (#4: 3.8/ 6), “Mike & Molly” (#4: 3.8/ 6) and “Hawaii Five-O” (#3: 3.5/ 6). Of the five, only “Rules of Engagement” has not been officially renewed for next season. And The CW could compete with the revamped pairing of game show returnee “Oh Sit!” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and soon-to-conclude “90210” (#5: 0.5/ 1). Needless to say, there was no reason to bring back “Oh Sit!” for a second season.
