Well, I loved it. It was hilarious that Robin joined in on wanting to know about Liddy's body. And after an emotionally draining day, I needed this hilarity.
Loved Marshall and Lily's storyline, too!
Ted was right to call Barney out on his bullshit behavior, but Barney was also right to call out Ted on his behavior, too, tbh (They were both right and wrong, Team No One on this)
I agree with this except I think Barney deserves a little bit more leeway. I feel like Barney still has his doubts that Ted has completely gotten over Robin, and Barney knows what Ted was saying was right, so when Ted said that, Barney got scared and lashed out.
Except he was right about Ted, too. And guess what? Barney was about to leave, but Ted convinced him to stay by dangling it in his face that she had a hot body and then called him out on his behavior when he did so.
They were both right (and wrong) though. Team No One (Well, Team Robin, but still).
I agree. I think that no matter how much people can bash on Ted for still having feelings for Robin, you can really find no fault with how he has presented himself to both Robin and Barney. He has been nothing but supportive of them, from insisting Robin get out of the car on the night Barney proposed, to helping them plan for the wedding (even if going a little overboard), to giving very honest, sincere advice to Barney in this episode. He could have easily let Robin come with him to the building event or potentially let Barney just crash and burn by taking advantage of Robin's laid-back nature, but he didn't do that. Ted's just trying to help a bro out!
I love this show, but I had to vote poor. I barely laughed throughout the episode. The B/R/T storyline was really stupid. M/L storyline was better, but even that didn't keep me interested since I knew what decision they were gonna make, thanks to the press release for 8.23. So not worth the three week wait.
Wow, Barney, jerk alert!!! Bitchy much?! Ted was totally right to advise him, being his and Robin's best friend, because his behavior was definitely inappropriate, even for Barney. I mean, Robin really is a super cool person and fiancee, but she still has feelings and, in the way things were going, she was going to get hurt. Barney's reaction was totally uncalled for. This has nothing to do with Ted's feelings for her, he really was trying to help, if he didn't want to help he'd keep his mouth shut and let nature run its course, meaning, let Barney screw things up hugely. I don't want Barney to stop being himself, but to everything there is a limit, and he was kinda crossing it, in my opinion.
Yeah, and Barney was ready to go home, but Ted knows what he's like and actively encouraged him in said behavior last night then grossly proceeded to call him about it. That's crossing a line, too.
But both of them were in the right to call each other out because they were both wrong.
I dunno, I don't think pointing out that he recognizes a girl from his yoga class and mentioning that she has a really good body warrants blame on Ted's side. To be fair, Liddy was the wedding planner and Barney would have had to see her anyway... And, even if Ted HAD been baiting him, Barney didn't have to take the bait. That would be like saying that Ted or Marshall can never point out a woman is attractive in front of Barney for fear of him "relapsing" or something, which would probably be an unfair assumption.
Except Barney wasn't even thinking about her body until Ted started talking about it. Yes, Barney's behavior is gross and Ted was right to call him out on it. But Barney was right to call him out on his Robin issue.
Both of them were in the wrong, however.
I'm on Team Robin on this, but I'd like to see what she feels about it first.
To be fair, does Barney REALLY know Ted still has feelings for Robin? Lily is the only one he's opened up to at all about it, after all. He's kept it to himself, so anything Barney suspects is just that -- a suspicion, even if it's a good one. And Ted's advice wasn't even very presumptive...Marshall and Lily could have easily given Barney the same advice. I think it's even fair for Barney to become defensive about it and tell Ted to stay out of it...I don't think it was necessarily fair for him to throw pretty spiteful comments back in his face. Ted knows he "lost," but I don't think Barney should be figuratively "kicking him when he's down."
But yeah, I definitely agree that we need to hear how Robin feels about it first.
The fact that Ted may have been wrong (which I don't think he was), doesn't change the fact that, to me, Barney was a jerk in the way that he responded, which was what I commented in the first place.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Barney, I would listen to Ted if I were you!!! Very good advice!
ReplyDeleteJust an okay episode though. The last batch of episodes better be awesome!

Great episode!
Barney is such an ass, Ted is trying to help him and all he does in return is to be an asshole to someone he considers his best friend.
ReplyDeleteAnd he wonders why both Marshall and Ted consider each other their best friends and not him.

ReplyDeleteSo not worth the three week wait.
I agree how dare he asked Ted to back off, he clearly has no right to do that.
ReplyDeleteDid barney or Robin asked for his advise or help.
ReplyDeleteSorry to say that, but this was the poorest episode of season 8.
ReplyDeleteI was very disappointed, I didn't find it funny.
I hope the next episodes are better.

ReplyDeleteThe episode was ok... Barney was a jerk! I hope the last episode get better than this one! I really hope...
ReplyDeleteNope, and neither want his advise either.
ReplyDeleteBecause friends NEVER give advice to their other friends when they may potentially be headed for trouble...that would just be crazy talk!
ReplyDeleteWell said! Ted's advice was very sincere, and could have easily come from Marshall or Lily.
ReplyDeleteI had to vote awful, i didn't even laugh once

To me Ted's action doesn't begin to justify Barney's behavior, being extremely disrespectful to his fiancé, and he was a jerk to Ted.
