  1. I can't believe i fell asleep but woke up in time to see them chop off Jamie's hand! Oh lord really!!!!

  2. Someone please reassure me that Dany is pulling a fast one on the slave trader and isn't really trading one of her dragons.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I think so too. Once the trade is made, he has no men to protect him so what's to stop her from taking the dragon back?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Oh shit. This. Episode. Was. Awesome. Jaime D:

  5. As all fans of the Song of Ice and Fire book series know, for answers, all men must wait.

Or in High Valyrian, Valar Dowaitus

    ReplyDelete
  6. So Jamie is pretty much useless now

    ReplyDelete
  7. No man is safe!

Not many superficial wounds that heal overnight in Game of Thrones and a swordsman (nay, THE swordsman) without his sword hand is as good as neutered.

This episode moved the plots along nicely and really got into the meat of the stories unlike the previous two episode that were table setters.

I loved the two inside jokes this week...
    - Tyrion commenting about the" Meereenese Knot" XD
    - Theon's torturer turning to face the bowman "rescuer" and saying " You little bastard!" XD

I do wish they had not felt the need to have a Talisa scene as it was useless IMO, but outside of that this was an awesome episode.

Ladies and gentlemen, Brynden Tully AKA the Blackfish!
How bloody awesome was it that once he launched the arrow he slowly turned and tossed the bow at his ne'er-do-well nephew, Edmure Tully! Loved the confidence without arrogance! XD

  8. I can't believe I am saying this because I pretty much hated his guts after season one, but season two and three turned the tables and now I simply can't help myself: Poor Jamie!:-(

    ReplyDelete
  9. And after he played Locke tellign him there were sapphires on Tarth too!

He saves Brienne from repeated gang rapes and he loses a hand!

As I said last week, it is dangerous to be honorable in Westeros, but now I add my favorite expression too.

    No good deed goes unpunished.

  10. The hints are there. Go back and listne closely to the dialogue.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow, that end scene was fabulous. It was the perfect way to show Jaime that he's not exactly dealing with the noblest of captors anymore. Crying "daddy" isn't going to win him any points with these guys, and he'll forever be reminded of that. I also loved seeing his connection with Brienne evolve during the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  12. HE certainly will feel quite useless!

That is what GRRM does so well. He took this man, very much a sword incarnate, shiny, sharp and dangerous, and then he removed everything with one fell swoop. Now, everything Jaime has always been and seen himself as has changed. How does that affect the man behind the smirk?

I haven't read the books so I can't answer for certain. But even in the brief time we've seen her this season she seems to evolved politically after her lessons in Qarth, if you listen to her she's choosing her words extremely carefully. I don't imagine that the dragon will take kindly to being parted from it's mother.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The dragons are completley faithful to Danny, there's no doubt for me that as long as they can fly they will find their way back to her.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Love kick-ass Daenerys so much! I like Robb as a leader and I like the conection between Brienn and Jamie even thou he hasn't won me over yet, not enough to pitty him (can't forget he threw a kid from a tower) The snow plot is really boring me at the moment, can't find enough exitement arround John Snow, hope there's something interesting comming his way.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Of all the shows to fall asleep to! XD
Imagine the dreams one would have if inspired by Game of thrones. EEEK!

I guess Season 1 had a number of head chopping scenes and since Season 2 was rather limited limb-lopping wise... Jaime was there to lend a hand *ahem* to the gore factor of the series....

    ReplyDelete
  17. When Jaime said: "if I was a woman.." I almost expected him to finish : ".. I would be Cersei"
    haha

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jaime and Brienne only had a couple of scenes, but they were the best, no doubt. I loved seeing him save Brienne and feeling so confident, only to loose his hand a moment later. Jaime will be forever changed.

Tyrion, Tywin, Lord Varys, Littlefinger and Cersei in the room was brilliant. They are all so great at conversation, but this time it was quiet and they said it all by moving their chairs around. I just loved Tyrion moving his chair to the end of the table.

I´m not a big Danaerys fan, but I liked her scenes in this episodes.

We only got a short glimse of Ghost. Miss him, he was so much more present in the books.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know an you believe it!! I swear i feel like i have sleeping sickness, but i'm going to watch it today, after a few more winks. :) Why take his hand,oh my poor Jamie!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well I already know what my 'scene of the weak' is! I love how Lannister's start out mighty great in dialogue and then push their luck! A handless Jamie will make good redemption arc (and I keep thinking there should be some hand of the king's father joke in here somewhere) Jamie and Breianne's scenes continue to be SO good!

Even though I'm not terribly fond of Theon, I thought his escape scene was terrific! It was exhilarating and well choreographed! Looking forward to learning more about the rescuer and if he really relates to The Iron Islands or not?!

Winterfell might as well be called Winterhell at this point!

Nice to see Sam reunited with Gilly. Too bad it's under such precarious circumstance, but I doubt that'll stop Sam from helping her.

Kat's scenes with her Uncle were also VERY good. "Blackfish" seems like an enduring and emotional character!

Love the moving of the chairs Tyrion scene! I swear Lord Vary's eyes were going to pop out of his head and roll on the table :D

I also liked how Jorah and Bannister represented a good argumentation in terms of Dany's army. I don't know why, but I have a bad feeling about her "unsullied", but I like the juxtaposition thinking about them in comparison to The White Walkers and/or Game of Throne's post death mythos!

Anyways just wanted to stop by, since I missed out last week!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Varys (if not Conlith Hill the actor himself) indeed looked to be quite amused during the chair moving! HE needs more air time dammit! XD

Psst. Barristan Selmy, not Bannister. Damn Westori names anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  22. ah, Damn, still learning! (and yes Vary's is one of my favorites. More screen time indeed!)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not to really compare the two, but I fell asleep at the midnight-opening night showing of Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince! :p

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, what's a King Slayer to do without his hand! -A moral tale of too much bragging?!

    ReplyDelete
  25. In the books it was less of a moral tale..

Firstly it was a notorious mercenary group called the Bloody Mummers who captured Jaime and Brienne, not Bolton men. The leader of the group was called Vargo Hoat and he is a sadist who is known to enjoy brutally raping women and cutting off his prisoners limbs for fun earning him one of his many nicknames, the Crippler.

He cuts off Jaime's hand for actual reasons like, he will not be as dangerous and the Kingslayer's hand will make a nice trophy to wear around his neck.

In the show it felt a bit out of the blue to me I guess, but with so little time for each scene some events just cannot have the backstory like in the books.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The only reason I thought it a cautionary moral tale was because of what Brieanne

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is--or should be, if they stick with the book. But it'll take a while.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ha! Good!

I woke up just in time to see Dumbledoor's funereal! :/

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just keep thinking about the possible word play on, "I'll give YOU a Dragon!" -Either I can see her giving him like a statue of a dragon or something, or I can see her Dragon burn his *ss!!!

But I feel certain that she not going to loose one of her dragons to some magical slave driver! -But I do worry about the unsullied themselves...I feel like the whole truth about them wasn't exposed?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. How could you??! You must have been very tired eh?? lol

I was giddy and grinning through the complete 54 minutes. Even the Previously On Segment with it's scenes and music managed to get me excited.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Maybe he will have trouble to become a left-handy and therefore less dangerous to his captors. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Exactly like you. Besides the Talisa scene I loved every minute of this episode.

And I've gotta admit that this time they managed to get me emotional with Catelyn in a scene compared to last week.

Did you recognize Torchwood's Owen Harper as a crow at Craster's?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jamie did something for his Kharma-Tally. So how much good deeds are needed for throwing out kids from a tower? XD

    ReplyDelete
  34. I did see Burn Gorman there and forgot to mention it, thanks!

Odd that such a recognizable actor had a non-speaking part. From what we have been told he is one of the conspirators, so he should have a larger part to play next week. Maybe even some lines! XD

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree, they placed him already in this episode that we can get accustomed to him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just re-watched that scene to screencap Mr. Gorman and I guess he DID have a speaking part. He was the NW that told Craster he feeds the pig better than he feeds them! XD

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nice, I wasn't sure if that was his voice. Have to watch it again but this time with subtitles.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why did Tywin made Tyrion Master of coin? No doubt Tyrion is smart and capable. But, did his daddy (may he drop dead, I don't like him) name him cause he trusts him to manage that job, or did he name him hoping he would fail that job, what would give him reason to send him away and call him an embarrassment?
"All men must die. But we are not men" I love my Khaleesi. But I still can't believe she's willing to give up one of her dragons. Maybe she hopes they won't be able to control him and the dragon will kill them and return to her.
Jamie actually protecting Brienne (or her "honor")? Never thought of that. I actually feel sorry for him losing his hand. But this idiot was right in one point. Jamie always just had to bring up his father and all his problems were solved. He had it quite easy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "How bloody awesome was it that once he launched the arrow he slowly turned and tossed the bow at his ne'er-do-well nephew" Agree, that was cool.
I actually wonder why Ghost is staying with the Watch and not with Jon.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have a theory. More a ray of hope. She probably hopes that the slave trader won't be able to control the dragon and that the dragon kills them all and returns to her. Well, she's the "mother of dragons". Would be logical for them to return to her, wouldn't it be?

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Imagine the dreams one would have if inspired by Game of thrones" Mine would be about dragons and wolves. I always liked dragons. And although I'm a cat person I want a wolf.

    ReplyDelete
  42. O.K. Fallsing asleep at home, on the couch, during a boring movie you probably already saw is one thing. But in the cinema? Wasn't it too loud?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not quite sure why Ghost is around the NW either. I forget did Jon tell Ghost to go back to Castle Black or watch over Sam? Hmmm.

Jaime did have it easy in some ways, however he has really had little choice in his own life. He was made a member of the Kingsguard by the Mad King Aerys in large part to spite Tywin and deprive him of his son, his golden boy and chosen heir to Casterly Rock.

Being made a Kingsguard since he was 15 Jaime has had no ability to choose anything for himself. No wife, no inheritance.... The one choice he has made for himself was to kill the tyrannical Aerys and he has been the infamous Kingslayer ever since. He made the "good" and honorable choice to kill the Mad King, but has been considered dishonorable and a bad man ever since.

He is not JUST some privileged golden boy who has had everything in life. He is quite a complex character really.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, at least Jamie did something good and right for once. Saving Brienne from being raped. And I too feel sorry for him losing his hand. It's a first. Till now I hated that guy.
I think he would have lost his hand anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ha! Way to rub it in!! J/K! ;)

...You would think, especially sitting in the front row XD -But I had put 200 bales of hay away that day, so I don't think much could have helped me from dozing off!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Only 200? ;-)
Our nephew fell asleep during the huge battle scene in Return of the King. My wife fell asleep at a Neil Young concert once. Admittedly, he was playing "Change Your Mind," a 14-minute-plus deep album cut nobody but the most ardent fan would be interested in, but still.... :p

    ReplyDelete
  47. He is, yes, but that's much more difficult to see in the show than in the books; it'll be interesting to watch his character unfold over seasons three and four.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was just wondering. I thought Ghost would be more loyal to his … What? Owner? Master? Leader?

Well, that's one of the benefits for reading the books. I didn't know most of Jamies past. I thought he joined the guards cause he was good with the sword. No wife? Why does he need a wife? He's fucking his sister and has 3 children with her. But true, he can never marry her or name her children his heirs. And didn't he said to Lady Stark that Cersei was his only woman (hard to believe for a man. I wonder what he'll say if he finds out his sister is fucking every guy she can get, while he's a prisoner and he never even took a whore to his bed)? He made it sound like he was a honorable man for being faithful to his lover. Which is more his sister can say (and of course I'm not talking about her dead husband).

"But has been considered dishonorable and a bad man ever since" Not by me. I didn't read the books, so I know little about the Mad king, but I think it was the right thing to do. What Jamie did was for the greater good. For the kingdom and the people. Although I don't know his motives for killing the former king, I always see killing a insane tyrant as a good thing.
Todays ep proved that he is more complex than I thought at the beginning. But he still had it easy. Every time he got into trouble the guards helped him (like when he fought Ned), or he just mentioned his father (who used his power and money to bought him out of trouble).

  49. Bales of hay? Farm boy? No offence, but I couldn't even imagine. I grew up in the city. Central. A few years ago we moved in the suburbs. We have grass and some trees (cherries, apples, pears) and a small garden (for just what we need, you know, salad, tomatoes, …). For years I felt like living on a farm. And all the bugs here are not good for my phobias.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Farm girl, but actually I live in the middle of suburbia, which likes to pretend that it is a city. :p -But we've had horses since I was very little. It's not a produce farm, it was something recreational for parents, as we use to show them, then later gave horse back riding lessons, and now most of our horses are in retirement. -But it can be a lot of work none the less :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL! These things happen!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  52. Farm girl? Sorry.

I never learned to ride a horse. But I think they are beautiful. Of course, when I was little I wanted a pony (so typical gilry. I can't imagine I was like that). But I know that horses are expensive and require lot of work.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah! That's true! One cripple makes for another!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yep, I hear you.

I grew up on a 5-acre hobby farm about 10 minutes outside the city in the middle of suburbia where "farms" (hobby or otherwise) were not common at all. Had horses until I was a teen with a big old barn adn everything! XD

    Hay bailing is tiring stuff!

I don't blame you for falling asleep during HP....

As an insomniac I do not blame anyone for falling asleep at any time, I envy them! XD

    ReplyDelete
  55. This season is shapely up nicely every episode is stronger than the previous. Also the I love the use of comedy in this season, from the awkward funeral opening to the musical chairs and then the Pod God's Gift to Ladies scene. I like how they are making the show more humorous because well a lot of bad shit is coming can't be grim all the time.

Jaime/Brienne scenes once again perfect, even though I knew it was coming hearing her screams off screen was chilling then of course that ending. I imagine non book readers must have screamed at the TV!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I haven't read the books, but I liked that he basically lost his hand because he attempted to save Brienne. That moment was ruined a tiny bit when he went on about himself after that...

    ReplyDelete
  57. My grandparents had 10 acres of a working farm 2 horses.Cows, hens, ducks, apple, blueberry and strawberry farm.I loved it,The house was a real farmhouse with 15 kids.Had to drive for miles just to get whatever was needed. The nights pitch black for we didn't have street lights,it always scared me to death! I remember helping grandma bake,(she baked,i made the mess)whenever the milk was delivered my farther would let me drink the cream off the top, yum,it was delicious! 25 years later while in Massachusetts i was driving down the road when i saw the house,i couldn't believe it was still standing! Who ever bought it sold off some of the land, the lady noticed me looking at it and she actually invited me in.My inner child feelings came rushing out as soon as i stepped through the door.oh my i almost couldn't breath, she had kept what was important,aw,it made me cry..I miss that house,i miss the people....

    ReplyDelete
  58. You were giddy! I would love to see that,ha! Yeah,i was exhausted, heck i'm still tired.Must be tired blood :P I don't think i'll even get to it tonight, tomorrow is another day.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah this isn't the same but my husband and i had just gotten into Madison Square garden,we were maybe 100feet away from the stage waiting for Pink Floyd to come onstage,we had been counting the days for this concert, they came on was 5 minutes into their first song and i get a major migraine!! I was devastated and crippled by it.I felt so bad for my husband..& me..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Cool! Something else we have in common! XD

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ya, sometimes time sucks. I hate seeing things rapidly change, but at least the house was still there :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Right now horses are cheap to buy because the economy is SO bad, but keeping them is a real trick. I think it's more expensive with the 7 we have now, then the 23 we had 15 yrs ago!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. as long as you mange it before next weeks episode, which might have an even bigger last scene/cliffhanger, all is fine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I keep seeing Jammie's face. i'll watch it later this afternoon. A bigger cliffhanger,Yikes! :P

    ReplyDelete
  65. One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...aaaaaaaaaargh

    ReplyDelete
  66. This was the first of what should be at least 3 (depending on what scenes make what episodes) of the biggest cliffhangers you will ever see. Jaime losing his hand being the first..... At least one of the other two is equally as unexpected.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I can relate to that too! -I never really got migraines as a kid, but in the last 5-10 years I get them more frequently. I don't know it it's allergy related, or what, but sometimes they can be so bad!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sheeesh this season is going to be epic! I was waiting for my husband to get up but i think i'll watch it now..

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh yeah,no lights, blinds closed, throw up and then to sleep it off.Thank god for Imetrex,to bad it wasn't available then.Killed me missing that show!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Buying horses is not a problem. Probably never was (unless you were a breeder or had horses for racing). Taking care of them and providing for them is what is expensive. In
money and time. At least that's what I heard.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It was so nice. I agree with a previous poster who've said that so far each episode of this season is better than the last one. I am loving almost every arc. I don't care much for John Snow and his Wall arc right now, but other than that I am very invested in everything. Theon's scenes were great and so were Jaime/Brienne, and of course Arya. Cathelyn Stark has also been amazing this season so far. Missed Sansa though.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yeah I am also not big of Danaerys but I really liked her on this one

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lord Varys is one of my favorites aswell. He does need more screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  74. re: Brienne. I don't remember it even getting that far in the book. Jaime talked them out of doing it before they even touched her.

    ReplyDelete
  75. None of those dragons will heel to anyone who isn't a True Dragon, which is what Dany is. Even then, it's not 100% assured.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jaime is looked down upon for killing Aerys because he was sworn by an oath to protect and serve the king. While it was a good decision and ended an already hellish revolt morally, in the world of codes and oaths and knightly honor, it was a massive disgrace and no one feels they can trust him, if he'd break such a serious oath as that of the head guardian to the King.

    ReplyDelete
  77. As I said, I don't know his motives. But I agree with you. Breaking such an oath is a big thing. That is why I would never swear an oath like that. I couldn't keep it. Could I stay there and do nothing while people suffer although it's in my power to stop it? And I just let it happen cause I gave my world? That reminds me on S2, when Joffrey let the guards kill all bastards. I mean the guards swore an oath to do the kings bidding, but how could they do that? Could you give such an oath and then take a knife or dagger and kill an infant? Maybe the guards have to take a psychological test before they can become the kings guard and he picks only those who fail (means only the psychos).
Well, I don’t' know what Jamies motive was. Maybe he hoped to take the throne by killing the king. Maybe he saw what the Mad king did to Starks sister (whatever it was) and he was afraid his sister might be next. I don’t know. But of course I doubt he did it for the greater good. Feel free to tell me, if you know why he did it.
Till now I never saw Jamie as a good or honorable person. I hated him, saw him as a waste of food and water to the Starks. Till now. He saved Brienne and I respect that. He could just watch (or listen) how they rape her and maybe even kill her. He didn't. And as I said, killing an insane tyrant is always good.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Historically speaking, the Kingsgaurd often has been the best of the best in every way. The most honorable knights and the most skilled knights etc..

Since Robert's Rebellion when Robert Baratheon took the Iron Throne the KG has gone downhill. During the time around the Rebellion, five of the Mad King Aerys' KG were killed. Only Jaime Lannister and Barristan Selmy survived.

Robert replaced dead KG with lesser quality knights or younger less-proven knights.. Some were political appointments from houses that supported Robert during the rebellion and some that swore their oaths to King Robert, but in truth were more loyal to Cersei and House Lannister (Ser Meryn Trant and Ser Boris Blount).

You are right though by our society's standards it would take a special kind of person blindly do whatever your King said. Especially if he is mad like Aerys or sadistic like Joffrey. In the world of Westeros it is more common and about duty and honor. Lesser houses do as their liege house commands, knights do as their King demands etc

    ReplyDelete
  79. You got all that from the books? Well, I too don't believe he did it for the greater good. Maybe he hoped his father could take the throne?
Well, even the lesser quality knights are loyal to the king, whoever that is. Remember when Joffrey (or rather Cersei) replaced the old knight (I think he was the head of the KG) and he got mad and took a step toward the new king? The other guards were ready to attack him, although they served under him probably since Baratheon took the throne. And they killed the children. They may not be the best of the best, but they are loyal.

    ReplyDelete
  80. As I said, I don't know his motives. But I agree with you. Breaking such an oath is a big thing. That is why I would never swear an oath like that. I couldn't keep it.
