Nikita - 4th & Final season of 6-13 episodes being negotiated and other CW updates
Apr 9, 2013
Beauty and the Beast Carrie Diaries Hart of Dixie Nikita
According to Deadline Nikita is closing a deal for a final season of only 6 -> 13 episodes, Beauty and the Beast is likely to be renewed, Hart of Dixie is certain to be renewed and online viewing may save The Carrie Diaries
I don't understans why a short season for Nikita. They are close to syndication.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for TCD!
ReplyDeleteCOME ON BATB, BEASTIES NEED U!
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFingers totally crossed for BATB! :)
ReplyDeleteCraig Silverstein said this isn't true, so I'm still hoping for a full 22 episode season for Nikita.
ReplyDeleteNikita deserve a full season
ReplyDeleteI prefer a full season, because of that and because tha fact that with a full season they could give us practically the 4 and the 5 seasons inside one. I mean it's not like the show had a lot of filler episodes...
ReplyDeleteI'm in the hope for a full season.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this and really thinking about it, BATB has a pretty big chance since it is really the last CBS co production they have and it's Pedowitz's baby, so I really don't see him letting go of it yet.
ReplyDeleteI thought Nikita was doing well rating wise :( Damn.
ReplyDeleteThe network took a leap of faith with Nikita when renewing it after Season 2 with the intent of getting it to the desired 88 episodes. That's why cancellation after Season 3, when they're much closer to that goal, would make no sense. The idea of them ordering a fourth season, but making it 6-13 episodes and therefore falling short of the 88-ep mark, is downright ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteIt would be like climbing a very high mountain, and then, when you're *just* about to reach the top, going "Man, I'm too tired. I think I'll go back down."
Someone suggested that maybe they mean Turn, Craig Silverstein's new show for AMC, and not Nikita. It makes much more sense (and doesn't AMC do seasons as short as 6 episodes, like The Walking Dead's first season?).
ReplyDeleteBoo, Nikita should get a full 4th season. Either way it should get another season.
ReplyDeleteI really hope the carrie diaries gets renewed. Its such a refreshingly cute show
ReplyDeleteWho is he?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Nikita but I find this ridiculous. Nikita should be renewed for a full season of 22 episodes for syndication purposes. Any attempt to renew it for less episodes is just bizzare and silly.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe this at all. Yeah, I know Deadline is usually a pretty reliable source, but I can't understand how it would make economical sense to renew Nikita for anything less than a 22 episode season to reach the 88 episode for syndication. In my book, Nikita is a certain renewal, and it will get the 22 episodes. I may be proven wrong in the future and I will have to revise all my prediction methodology, but I am standing by it. I also don't buy that The Carrie Diaries will be renewed. I agree that Hart is a certain thing at this point (although not as certain as Nikita) and that Beauty is a bubble show that can be helped by the political element.
ReplyDeleteThe executive producer of Nikita.
ReplyDelete100% agreed. They will renew it for 22 episodes, it doesn't make sense otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI think it firmly sits on the bubble at this point, but I agree that it is a very compelling point in its favour
ReplyDeleteAh thanks! I'm new to Nikita lol.
ReplyDeleteDo you have source? Not doubting you, but would like to see it myself. I also think this is not true at all, it would make zero sense economic wise
ReplyDeleteI saw nothing to indicate it being Pedowitz's baby. It is indeed though the last CBS only production left except for ANTM.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very dumb idea, I concur.
ReplyDeleteHe tweeted about it. http://twitter.com/sesfonstein/status/321417909576544256
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
ReplyDeleteDeadline are mostly reliable but not always. I saw them contradicting themselves before and what I dislike about them is their tendency to edit thie articles without indicating the edit. For example, they forgot The Tommorow People a couple of days ago and then they suddenly added it and added other details about other shows without adding the article a proper edit.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I really think Deadline is getting it all wrong this year. I felt that way about the NBC's prospects that were published yesterday and I am feeling the same today with the cw. This just reinforces my feeling.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteNo problem. Yeah, I think they're getting it wrong this time too.
ReplyDeleteI think The CW situation is a lot clearer this year than last. Nikita and HoD will be renewed (for full seasons), Cult and TCD will be cancelled. The only real question mark is over BatB - its performance hasn't been as good as they'd hoped, but it's not too expensive to produce and has an extremely passionate fanbase. Plus, they didn't promote it as fervently as TSC, Ringer or TCD so expectations probably weren't as high.
ReplyDeleteThis article suggests TCD's online performance can save it, but I doubt it. It's been getting mostly 0.4's and the most recent episode even got 0.3. For a first season, on a non-Friday night, that can't possibly cut it, even considering that the bar keeps getting lower on this network. (Which isn't to say I have anything against the show, of course - if it's renewed, good for its fans. I'm just calling it as I see it.)
BATB and TCD should be cancelled =(. Well, besides that, I think CW will pick 4 pilots (5 if you include The Originals, unofficially picked up already) out of eight available, so the network can manipulate its schedule without reruns.
ReplyDeleteMy guesses: The Tomorrow People, The 100, Oxygen and The Selection, even though Reign is a possibility too.
ReplyDeleteNikita needs a full season! Come on
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast all the way! So looking forward to more of its storylines! It has great potential for number of seasons!
ReplyDeleteTCD pulled the same ratings Nikita did last week, and Nikita has the Friday factor. If Deadline's info is correct and Pedowitz is considering to renew a new show with 0.3 on the expense of a show ending its 3rd season that has the same ratings, then I guess he's not fit to run this network. Thus, I'd rather think Deadline's report is incorrect..
ReplyDelete0.3 is not good, even on a Friday night. I'm surprised Nikita got this far, because it's not targeted for typical CW audience and it was also doing weak last season.
ReplyDeleteNikita getting a short final season makes sense to me for several reasons
ReplyDeleteIt would be cheaper than a full season
It would give fans closure, which really matters to Pedowitz
Shows with less than 88 have been syndicated:Veronivca Mars -64 episodes on SoapNet ,Reaper 31 episodes,on fearnet Til Death 81 episodes,Nashvile on CMT,Aoow onWGNAmerica
It would help prevent gaps/holes in cws schedule
Pedowitz is a fan of shortened final seasons:OTh,GG
If they run it in the fall, they could avoid hiatuses and DST which hurt ratings
If Craig S has a new show, he won't have the time and energey for Nikita, just Alan Ball with True Blood and Banshee,Kevin Wiliiamson and VD plus SC and the Following
Also, Nikita's ratings are awful
Anyway I'm hopeful for HoD,CD'BaTB being renewed.
Whether this is true or not (seems unlikely with the twitter source) I'm just hoping the writers can wrap the story nicely. Good ending.
ReplyDeleteThat's my hope.. See Nikita coming back for full season, and Syndication, And how knows, being saved by other network, like Cougar Town...
ReplyDeleteOh, they can, with a half season they can do miracles, imagine with a full one..
ReplyDeleteOr in this case, "Man, I'm too tired. I think I'll jump all my way down." lol
ReplyDeleteEven though it's ratings are awful and i'm not a fan, it would be a stupid idea for The CW not to give it a full season for syndication. Also if it is a short season, what are they gonna air in it's slot when it's finished, if they premiere a now show, it will probably without a doubt, fail, and they can't just air repeats on Fridays all the time
ReplyDeleteI believe that the problem with Nikita was the lack of propaganda, and all the mess with the early episodes, I mean, ok now we'll go 'till the season finale without breaks, but 6 episodes until December was way to silly. And they recently are releasing the press releases too spoilerly to my taste and sometimes releasing the promo even before the episode being aired. And last season the torrent world was receiving the episodes one night before they where being aired. So it all means maybe some internal management issue. Anyway, I believe that with the right propaganda the show could've been more "happy" in terms of audience and maybe network...
ReplyDeleteI know it's defiantly no where near as important as ratings but BATB also won the favourite new drama at the People's Choice Awards. Also The Carrie Diaries is in it's first season ans getting 0.3's and 0.4's, and it will only have 13 episodes after this season so if The CW want syndication (obviously too early now but anyways) it will take 3 full seasons plus another 5th and final season just to get it to syndication!
ReplyDeleteLol! Yeah, that's pretty much where The CW is headed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel like an analysis of why Nikita failed as far as domestic ratings go could fill a book. Personally, I don't believe it was ever about the show's quality. Granted, everyone has different tastes but you don't have to be an obsessed Nikita fan (like me) to know that this show can have wide appeal. It's full of exciting action and plot twists, and of course an attractive cast, a sleek look, etc. What matters ultimately isn't the die-hard fans, it's the casual viewers since these are the ones with Nielsen boxes, and I see no reason why a well-made action show like Nikita couldn't appeal to those (especially men, who typically like action - and hot women).
ReplyDeleteSo why didn't it work? I'd say a string of promotion and scheduling mistakes by the network (seeing a promo with Maggie Q in a bikini, Rihanna music and the slogan "girl power has a new name" probably didn't make people take the show too seriously; all the freaking breaks in the past 2 seasons, etc), as well as the fact that it's on the wrong network to begin with. The CW demo is not the type to be interested in a show like Nikita. They're moving towards more genre shows and trying to diversify their audience now, but it's too late for Nikita, with it so late in its run and stuck on Friday.
Nikita's ratings were already awful in the end of Season 2, and are even more so in Season 3. Whatever money they'll save on a handful of Season 4 episodes if they don't make it a full season, is nowhere near the amount of money they'll LOSE from not getting it to the coveted 88 episodes. They've put up with Nikita's low ratings this long, it would be preposterous to cancel it just when they're about to recoup their investment.
ReplyDeleteI realize you hate Nikita, given your posts on TVBTN and all over the internet, but try to look at things from an objective PoV. A lot of people think Nikita should have been cancelled after Season 2. Okay, but it *wasn't*; and given that, it would make zero sense for the network not to stick with it until it gets to the magic number.
Wow thats really low :/
ReplyDeleteMaybe you didn't get the part where it can be syndicated with less than 88 episodes.Veronica Mars had 64 episodes yet is syndicated on SoapNet,Reaper with 31 episodes ,Til Death and another show had 81, just 4-5 shy yet they were cancelled but got syndicated.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked when we got a season 3 renewal. The ratings were beyond awful, and the storyline was at a point where they could wrap it up right there. This season is awesome, and there's loads more they could do in a season 4. Deserves renewal. FULL renewal.
ReplyDeleteThis is talking about a deal for Craig's new show, not Nikita.
ReplyDeleteyeah this is worded wrong. Nikita need a full season renewal for syndication purpose. A short season would be like shooting themselves in the foot. Besides Deadline knows nothing and they were wrong last year also when they said Nikita and Hart of Dixie would get short seasons we all know they didn't and this year they use the same words. They are so ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI think the 6-13 ep order is for Craigs other show on AMC they do short seasons in the range of 6-13 episodes because its a cable network.
Niktia! Nikita is one of the best action packed shows on non-cable tv.
ReplyDeleteCarrie is not getting renewed! I've always believed Deadline but I'm drawing the line at this spin! Carrie WILL NIT BE RENEWED! It will/should be cancelled. Huge flop since The CW's RINGER.
ReplyDeleteWhere have they been syndicated in the US? International distribution is not considered syndication Brandy.
ReplyDeleteSid WGN America is in the US so is SoapNet,Chiller,Fearnet.Commedey Central is also syndicating Community at 79 episodes(unless it gets renewed)& CC is also in the US.With Comcast Xfinity WGNAmerica is channel 99,SoapNet 184,.Comcast dosent Chiller .Ill have to look up Fearnet & CC to see what channel they're on.I live in the US and get these channels.
ReplyDeleteThis. 100%
ReplyDeleteIt would be funny if the writer write a cliffhanger in hopes of getting another season but I don't think they're that delusional....
ReplyDelete6-13?? It NEEDS to be at least 13 if there going for that final season order.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping for a second season for BATB!! I can't remember another show that delivers absolutely everything in one show let alone one episode!!
ReplyDeleteRiddle me this: if they wanted to get Nikita a minimal syndication deal, why didn't they cancel it after Season 2 and do it then? The ratings were bad enough then to do it. Alternatively, if for some reason the ratings in Season 3 are so much worse than in Season 2 and they want to do it now (which is not the case, the ratings are the same or 0.1 lower than last season and considering the overall year-to-year drop in ratings that's acceptable), they can cancel in the end of Season 3.
ReplyDeleteWhat you're suggesting is ordering a fourth season, meaning getting within 8-16 episodes of the necessary 88 episodes, and THEN cancelling. If you don't understand the ridiculousness of that, well... I'm not sure how to have a discussion with you. While it's possible to have minimal syndication deals with less than 88 eps, it's much easier and more profitable WITH 88 which is why we're having this discussion in the first place. If the network didn't aspire to get Nikita to 88, again, they would have axed it after Season 2 and not soldier on this long. What's so hard to understand?
I'm not sure there going for syndication, bur rather a final season to wrap everything up
ReplyDeletedeadline also has the best coverage when it comes to pilots, renewals, cancellation it's not to say there a 100% accurate, there going to get a few shows wrong, but because of the ratings I say that this is likely to happen
ReplyDeleteYeah but where have you seen those three shows you mentioned syndicated on those US cable channels?
ReplyDeleteBeauty & The Beast is just getting into its groove and gets better and better. It ABSOLUTELY should be renewed-amazing cast, writers, crew and the most avid international fans...GO BEASTIES!
ReplyDeleteThey can't possibly renew 4 shows after already renewing SuperNatural and Arrow.
ReplyDeleteI don't think TCD is going to make it.
CW hv to reneq BATB!!!! We love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never watched Sex in the City and still have to interest to but I love Annasophia Robb! She's done such a great job, as have the other young actors on the show. It would be a shame for all their hard work to be over with so soon
ReplyDeletePlease, renew Hart of Dixie!!!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Asian markets don't require as many episodes for syndication. Does seem odd.
ReplyDeleteI'd say it is more likely to be renewed than Carrie Diaries, which I think has no shot. However, IF the CW can afford to cancel them both that's the scenario I would lay money on.
ReplyDeleteSee, this is how you do it, if you're cancelling a show GIVE IT AN ENDING!!! Thank you CW.
ReplyDeleteThis is not TVbtN so there is no need to be rude here. She made a fact-based point on syndication and you insulting another commentator does not help your point.
ReplyDeleteI happen to believe Robert and Bill's line on syndication too and therefore think it is weird that they would renew at all if not for the whole 21 episodes. However the CW has done strange things before, including renewing Nikita last year when it was clearly a ratings disaster. I like Nikita but there are obviously different rules applied to it than most shows and I am not sure we know exactly what those rules are. Personally I was of the "midseason replacement and straight through the summer" persuasion and it still makes a lot of sense to me. It won't surprise me if Deadline is dead wrong, but if they are right it still won't be as shocking as the fact that Nikita is still on the air. I am just glad that it sounds like there are plans to give Nikita a well-deserved, planned out ending.
If this is true then my first inclination is that it will be schedule spackle, taking the place of whichever new shows fails spectacularly in the fall. It is also possible that one of the new pilots will be slotted with a midseason premiere, starting when Nikita ended its run.
ReplyDelete"This is not TVbtN so there is no need to be rude here."
ReplyDeleteHa! So true.
Beauty and the Beast deserves a second season! The show has gotten better with each episode so we need to allow the writers and actors to do what they do best! I also want Hart of Dixie for another season.
ReplyDeleteIt's not funny at all. :I
ReplyDeleteThe writers usually have been pretty good at not making cliff hangers too big. Last year the only thing we didn't know about was what was going to happen with Amanda and division. Everything ended pretty nicely otherwise with all the couples together and Percy killed- so a big plot story, the most important one at the time, was done.
- Sounds fair and reasonable.
ReplyDelete- I don't know why everyone was so worried about B&tB.... I would have been more shocked it it got canned to tell you the truth. And I'm talking completely objectively here as I don't watch the show. The numbers were decent and the buzz was good. All the worry seemed a little misplaced to me.
- I had no doubts HoD was getting renewed. None! So, happy as I am about it I don't particularly consider it news...
- I believe TCD chances for a renewal got upped quite a bit with 90210 getting the can.
Ooh, I think that too. And I would love to see Nikita in a Network that she deserves. My thoughts are that IF Nikita was in cable or on Fox, maybe NBC or anything else entirely different from CW the show would've pretty more viewers. I mean this is the most flawless and intelligent show that I know of, maybe in the same way that Fringe was, but fringe problem was the Sci Fi aspect..
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you, I think exactly the same. I mean, the only reason I started watching the show was because I've already knew about La Femme Nikita ...And definetly the problem with the show is the CW, there's nothing wrong about the quality or the cast, or the producers, its totally the opposite. This is the most flawless show that I know of, there's much worse TV show on right know.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, she wasn't exactly too polite with her "Maybe you missed the part where...", either. Also, in my first post I *acknowledged* the fact that shows have been syndicated with less than 88 episodes before, but also explained that if The CW has stuck with Nikita this long, it makes no sense to cancel it NOW, when they're so close to the 88-ep mark. They could have cancelled it long ago and gone for the minimal syndication deal if that had been what they wanted. She just ignored what I said and pretended like I didn't acknowledge her point. It drives me up the wall when people simply ignore part of a comment because they can't argue back.
ReplyDeleteI know I shouldn't be rude but, well, Brandy brings out the worst in me since all she does is go around the entire internet (TVBTN, SpoilerTV, TVLine) repeatedly trashing shows' ratings (not only Nikita but also BatB, etc.) and saying they should be cancelled. She repeats the same old points over and over again like a broken record.
Unfortunately, I think BatB will be on friday nights next fall.
ReplyDeleteThose are the US channels.WGNAmer, SoapNet,Fearnet,Comedey Central are all US channels.
ReplyDeleteThen it wouldn't be a cancelation, it would be a final season.
ReplyDeleteFor starters, many of those shows were ordered for syndication and for another, i only happens for rare occurence.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Brandy on TVBTN, so it's funny you should say that.
ReplyDeleteIt's full of trolls, people constantly bashing on tv shows, and crazy fanatics constantly being pit up against each other.
ReplyDeleteCult already proved that low rated shows can crash and burn, especially if the CW continues doing this
ReplyDeleteNikita has always gotten by on syndication hopes and other shows doing poorly which makes it less bad by comparison.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I used to post there all the time but I can't stand looking at the comments any more. There's always a handful of people being completely intolerable.
ReplyDeleteI know.
ReplyDeleteI find it so rude that people are disliking comments like this. I happen to believe that BATB having won the People's Choice Awards has zero relevance to its renewal prospects, but regardless, everything you've stated are facts. How can people dislike a post that only states facts? Are they in denial? So immature!
ReplyDeleteBoth Brandy and Alex are on TVbtN. I think there is a lot of crossover between the 2 sites but their tones are definitely different. SpoilerTV tries to remain respectful whereas TVbtN seems to actively encourage people to be nasty to each other. I would hate for Spoiler to get dredged into that kind of mess.
ReplyDeleteI know that it can sometimes be hard to deal with people when you've had issues with them on other sites. Maybe just ignore that person's comments here and take the discussion over to the other sites like TVbtN if it is going to become personal. Spoiler is really an oasis of calm in the chum-infested waters of TV fandom and I would hate for it to change.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny most of the time but there are definitely people who when I see their name I automatically skip to the next comment. For me reading the comments is like teaching 4th grade again when the NSYNC and Backstreet Boys wars began. They have about the same amount of intellectual argument as the Boy Band Wars too.
ReplyDeleteBasically, yes. Those people post to provoke a reaction, not to promote discussion.
ReplyDeleteBATB SEASON 2 !!! PLEASE CW !!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Rob and Bill just don't do anything about the comments so it can get out of control in the comment section there.
ReplyDeleteomg omg omg hart of dixie is getting rewned yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteVery good point.
ReplyDeleteYou have a very good perspective on this show. I think it is well written for the most part. No show uses "flashback' like a champ like this show. If I wasn't a Maggie Q fan from back in the day, then the marketing of this show in the beginning would have turned me off. I say put this series on USA. I think "Le Femme Nikita" was originally on that network.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you! I hate it when I see that and I've seen a lot more of it happening over time since people have been allowed to vote down (instead of only being to vote up-which is the way I wish we could go back to). I only vote down if people are really rude for no reason or bash somebody else, but if somebody states facts or expresses their opinion (in a well thought out way) I hate seeing people vote down those posts.
ReplyDeleteI wish people would either type out why they disagree instead of voting down. I think it keeps people from expressing their views sometimes and contributes somewhat to a negative and competitive environment (i.e. fans of shows or characters voting down posts just because someone posted something negative about what they like-whether it's the truth or someone's thoughts about it/them). Sorry for the long post, but I was just really frustrated seeing all the posts that have been voted down here and other articles.
