While episodes like Pilot, Dead Man's Blood, Scarecrow and Devil's Trap were also my favorites in Season 1, I voted for Wendigo. It's the right amount of creepy and the monster was very scary
so hard to pick just one, there are so many great ones had to go with the pilot in the end. mainly for the classic one liners it gave us but not a bad case, it set up the season ("we have work to do") and they just look so cute when they are that young my next choices were scarecrow, something wicked and devils trap
Pilot because it hooked me on this series and Sam & Dean have become part of my family. It has been so much fun to watch the Js grow into very handsome men but very sorry they don't get the credit they deserve for their acting skills.
It is such a tough choice to make T_T. I love so much the pilot, and Hell House, and Bloody Mary, and Home, and The Benders so much, and the rest T_T. In the end I went with Home, because it was the first time with Mary, but it is just one between the rest because there are all awesome! (except Bugs which really wasn't a the same level >_>)
"Devil's Trap". JDM as YED, some of the best acting from the brothers, that shocking ending - I'd never experienced TV quite like that before. It's still my top 3 overall. "Faith" a close second.
It's always a toss up for me between Devil's Trap and Faith, depending on my mood at the time of the poll. Results here are lining up pretty well with the poll we ran earlier. In that poll the results were:
1. Devil's Trap 2. Faith 3. Pilot 4. Skin 5. Home 6. Bloody Mary 7. Hell House 8. Asylum 9. Something Wicked 10. Provenance
Home was the episode I happened to see on Space channel in Aug. 2012 and loved it. I then proceeded to buy season 1-3. Loved them and added 4-6. Then 7. I was completely caught up in time for season 8 premiere. Haha. So Home has a special place for me. Wish I'd known about this great show all along. Now I'm totally hooked!!!!
So glad you found Supernatural. Most people I talk to have a special place in their heart for the first SPN episode they saw. I started from the pilot but got hooked with Dead in the Water, episode 3. No matter what that episode will always be one of the best for me because it's where I pinpoint my Supernatural addiction.
That cliffhanger was a killer. I have never waited so long for a season to begin than with season 2. Hellatus was born on May 5, 2006 and it's never been harder to get through.
I picked Phanton Traveler (that's the first one with a demon, right? on the plane?), it wasn't until that episode that I was like "Okay, I could see keep watching this."
Yeah. I loved the moment when Dean said: "Killing as many evil sons of bitches as I possibly can." followed by a heartwarming smile the brothers shared which was immediately followed by a very, very creepy "HEEEELP MEEEE" and groaning coming from the dark forests when Wendigo imitated a human's voice.
And it also managed to add humor to the episode with Dean considering a large bag of M&M's as suitable provisions, hiking in biker boots and telling the girl "Oh sweetheart, I don't do shorts" :P
Thanks. I'm a huge Hawaii Five-O fan because of the Steve / Danny bromance and kept reading that the Sam/Dean bromance equalled it. Then I saw it was on and thought I'd check it out. So glad I did!!!!
Devil's Trap beyond a doubt. It was where I realized there were severe problems between John and Dean. My second was Dead in the Water because Jensen quit playing Dean as himself. He knew in that episode who and what Dean was.
Haha my first hellatus was after season 6. I found Supernatural right before season 6 started. My mates told me about the show and I watched the pilot. Bought all the seasons. Marathoned it because I got the flu that week. Best flu ever.
That was a tough one, but I went with "Faith". My top 5 are Faith, Provenance, Devil's Trap, Home, and Scarecrow. I like the pilot but it doesn't hold up very well with rewatches because of all the exposition IMO. Obviously it made sense at the time, but now I laugh every time I watch it.
The only one that was NOT a favorite was "Bugs", but I think "Home" hit me the hardest because the boys went back to where (they thought) it all started and got to see their Mom again (although not in human form). But I loved the Pilot also because it started the whole addiction. My granddaughter and I watched the 1st 6 seasons in a week marathon-needless to say I became addicted, even though I am a great grandmother. Going to my 1st con in Dallas thie September.
Those are two of my favorite quote from the episode. I also liked when Sam went back to camp ready to kick monster butt. I'm also a fan of Roy, especially when he says, "Inside the magic circle" and Dean says, "Nobody likes a skeptic Roy."
Season 1 is still one of my favorite seasons of all TV. I know a lot of people had issues with the standalones but I thought season 1 had some of the best standalones of the series. Thanks for doing this poll so we could reminisce.
I think Dead in the Water was the first episode to really go beyond the stereotype of Dean as well. He could have been a very flat, static character but Dead in the Water opened up a side of Dean , and some of his history, and the result was a character I knew I could really get behind.
Congrats on Dallas Con. I know of at least 2 great grandma SPN fans now, which is absolutely fabulous. I love how Supernatural defies stereotypes and appeals to such a wide variety of people.
The Pilot will forever be my favourite episode. X Season one is packed with great episodes but the emotional impact of an episode is just as important as all the other components, and it was here that I fell in love with the brothers and the future story about the Winchester family that the episode was promising to give us. X I like all the episodes in this season; there was something good in them all, even Bugs andd Route 666, apart from the ridiculously short night and the lack of chemistry between Dean and his lady-friend in the respective episodes. They were all about the brothers and that makes them wonderful. X Then compared with this season, each one was a veritable masterpiece.
Also a great grand ma and I wanted to go to that con so badly. Let us know how you liked it and I am very jealous. Just finished season 5 AGAIN and my parrot and I had our usual sobbing cry, now on to 6 again. lol
Me too. It has a special place in my heart because as soon as Dean kneeled down to be at Lucas' level and opened up to him, I was hopelessly addicted to Supernatural. They showed me right there that both brothers were going to be full-fledged characters and not just genre stereotypes.
Definitely! There are so many good one liners in Wendigo. It would be cool also to have another monster that actually looked like a monster and not human again.
That one almost made me give up... 1 death was "ok", but when the older boy died in the sink I was about ready to give up. Thou shalt not kill "children"... even adult children. My youngest is 24 and he is still my "baby".
I'm going with Faith. Combo of great story, perfect use of Don't Fear the Reaper (If not too perfect), reapers and for any red blooded man, Julie Benz.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteIt was a long time ago!. Too many to vote for so I went with pilot, which got me to love the show.
ReplyDeleteFaith, but I wish I could also vote for Something Wicked
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised The Benders finished so low and someone actually picked Rt. 666. Wow.
ReplyDeleteSkin, easily

Devi's Trap by far. Very good episode with an excellent cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteI loved A LOT of episodes of season 1, but I think I have to go with the finale!
ReplyDeleteI think 'Bloody Mary' and 'Devil,s Trap' are the best :-) but all season one was awesome!
ReplyDeleteHome was the episode I happened to see on Space channel in Aug. 2012 and loved it. I then proceeded to buy season 1-3. Loved them and added 4-6. Then 7. ReplyDeleteeasy Faith, then Devil's trap
ReplyDeleteI think Asylum was the scariest episode so far too. I loved the claustrophobic feel of the setting.
ReplyDeleteI think Wendigo is seriously underrated in the fandom. It had some great moments and dialogue.
ReplyDeleteThe pilot is indeed the best episode for one-liners. They kept coming and many of them are iconic now for SPN. "Driver picks the music...."
ReplyDeleteI'm still rooting for Michael to come back on the show as a junior hunter.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Dean sex scene caused someone to pick Route 666. I doubt it was the racist killer truck. :-P
ReplyDeleteThat's my one-two power punch of season 1 also. They are still in my top 10 of all episodes and sum up what Supernatural is to me.
ReplyDeleteWe should do a podcast special of our favorite episodes. We agree on this one but I know we don't agree on most seasons.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found Supernatural. Most people I talk to have a special place in their heart for the first SPN episode they saw. ReplyDeleteDevil's Trap!
ReplyDeleteDevil's Trap. The first episode of SPN I ever watched. Lots of action and great scenes and Bobby's first episode too. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely unrated.
ReplyDeleteWell, we have long summer so I'll put it on the list.
ReplyDeleteDevil's Trap beyond a doubt. It was where I realized there were severe problems between John and Dean. My second was Dead in the Water because Jensen quit playing Dean as himself. He knew in that episode who and what Dean was.
ReplyDeleteHaha my first hellatus was after season 6. I found Supernatural right before season 6 started. My mates told me about the show and I watched the pilot. Bought all the seasons. Marathoned it because I got the flu that week. Best flu ever.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's one of my favourites. I just it a bumper sticker of it for my car for my birthday yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThat was a tough one, but I went with "Faith". My top 5 are Faith, Provenance, Devil's Trap, Home, and Scarecrow. ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday to you. Awesome that you had some Supernatural in it to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteYou know a show is amazing when it makes the flu a good thing. That's awesome that you got to marathon it and avoid the hellatus.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 is still one of my favorite seasons of all TV. I know a lot of people had issues with the standalones but I thought season 1 had some of the best standalones of the series. Thanks for doing this poll so we could reminisce.
ReplyDeleteI plan on trying H5-O this summer because so many people talk about it. Hope it's on Netflix.
ReplyDeleteYep, Phantom Traveler is on the plane. I thought Amanda was a pretty awesome PiP in that one.
ReplyDeleteYou came in on a great episode, but oh I don't envy you the wait that followed.
ReplyDeleteI think Dead in the Water was the first episode to really go beyond the stereotype of Dean as well. He could have been a very flat, static character but Dead in the Water opened up a side of Dean , and some of his history, and the result was a character I knew I could really get behind.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Dallas Con. I know of at least 2 great grandma SPN fans now, which is absolutely fabulous. I love how Supernatural defies stereotypes and appeals to such a wide variety of people.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and also when Dean said "Tell me Roy, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?"
ReplyDeleteI wish there'd be one more Wendigo-ish episode before SPN concludes
The Pilot will forever be my favourite episode.
ReplyDeleteX

ReplyDeleteDead in the Water. Always DitW. It was the episode that made me stick with the show.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It has a special place in my heart because as soon as Dean kneeled down to be at Lucas' level and opened up to him, I was hopelessly addicted to Supernatural. They showed me right there that both brothers were going to be full-fledged characters and not just genre stereotypes.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I like making polls :)
ReplyDeleteLoved all of season 1!! (even though bugs creeped me out!) <3 I love every season of the show and will continue to love them :)
ReplyDeletei literally just posted the exact same words and everything then deleted it....
ReplyDeleteAll of season 1 was great! I have a top five though...
ReplyDeleteSomething wicked this way comes, pilot, devils trap, home, wendigo!
That one almost made me give up... 1 death was "ok", but when the older boy died in the sink I was about ready to give up. Thou shalt not kill "children"... even adult children. My youngest is 24 and he is still my "baby".
ReplyDeleteTough call on this one.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Faith. Combo of great story, perfect use of Don't Fear the Reaper (If not too perfect), reapers and for any red blooded man, Julie Benz.
And the ending scene was damn near perfect.
