Supernatural - 8.16 - Remember the Titans - Podcast
Mar 3, 2013
Podcast SupernaturalWelcome all you wayward sons and daughters out there. Up for discussion this week is episode 8.16: Remember The Titans. Both Dahne and Lilith found it to be a very 'meh' episode but one of them found it more redeemable than the other. This week was Lilith's turn to say something out of the ordinary but not to be outdone Dahne says something kind of out of the ordinary as well. If you want to find out who was good cop and who was bad cop this week, come in on and join the discussion.
Reminders:
• The Supernatural Las Vegas Con will be March 8-10 , so be on the lookout for cool stuff on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and YouTube.
• It is now officially Spring Purgatorous. So that means no new episodes of Supernatural until March 20. There will however be at least two new episodes of TWP, one of them being the Castiel tribute. It's not too late to submit voicemail and audio submissions about why you love Castiel, get them in by March 8th by 5 pm EST and I will edit them in.
• And of course we will be doing our favorite special edition: Listener Feedback. Be sure to keep sending in your comments, suggestions, concerns and of course burning questions.

Hey the Facebook like button is back. Cool.
ReplyDeleteI am very much looking forward to the Supernatural listener feedback podcast so if you have any theories, questions, or things you'd like us to talk about please send them in. We had an awesome response last time and it was a lot of fun. SPN fans often have better ideas than the writers. Also, Lilith invited me to her Arrow nitpicks round table so if you have anything you want to share for that please let me know.

I agree that it was a run of the mill episode and it's sad to see that this season has really only had a couple of decent to good episodes, when with a little bit more care, attention and more inspired writing, things could have been far better.

As far as taking down the older gods is concerned, the drama and suspence is completely gone. We know before hand that these gods are going to be defeated and in the easiest of ways too.
It would be more exciting if one escaped and became a worthy recurring enemy for the Winchesters. At least it would be something different.
X
It's just too unbelievable that after thousands of years and experience, Zeus gets taken down so easily and in so doing causes the tension to fall more each time we encounter one of these gods. The actor was really competent too; he would have made a good recurring villan.

I thought that Haley was way too underwhelmed about having a son that died every day, she just took it in her stride.I have to say I didn't feel much empathy for her or her son. It's difficult to form an emotional attachment for people you only see for half an episode.
That's why the brothers shoiuld always be the heart and soul of every episode because we have grown to love them and we care about what happens to them, unlike the random guest stars of the week.

The whole amnesia thing with Prometheous was a bit too clichèd too.
if they were going to make anyone lose their memory this season it should have been Sam.
If he had been knocked down by a car exiting the laboratory and lost his memory at the start of the season, eventually finishing up with Amelia, it would have been interesting for Dean to come back from Purgatory and go looking for him, helping him to get back his memories a little at a time.
We could have gone over the entire series from Stanford onwards as he got back snatches of his past and of course had to choose between Amelia and Dean.
Oh well, imagination is a wonderful thing, it consoles us when things go in all other directions. :)

I've already grumbled about other points on a previous thread, so i won't repeat them, suffice to say I enjoyed the podcast. :)
I was actually very excited when they were talking tablet quest this summer so I am really disappointed that it has stalled so much in the middle of lackluster standalones and horrid, horrid brother scenes. I agree that there was a tremendous amount of potential that has been squandered by detours and outright u-turns in the plot.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Supernatural has a real problem with gods. They are always too easy to dispose of and quite frankly I still don't buy the whole worshippers give you actual powers thing. After all if that were true shouldn't all these gods be extinct by now. I mean who has really worshipped Zeus this century. If he gets powers from worship, he should be gone completely. The whole thing is contrived and not any fun anymore. We know the god is going to be ganked by the most rudimentary of things and there will be absolutely no consequences because of it. It's the same story in the same filler mode. Now if any of these gods had info on where to find the angel tablet, they wouldn't have been completely useless.
While I never thought of amnesia Sam and quite frankly I am starting to hate even the word amnesia mentioned on genre shows these days, it would have been vastly superior to what we ended up getting. I'm still hoping that "perception" thing Jeremy Carver was talking about ends up that Sam is being controlled by Naomi. That's the most plausible reason I can think of so far.
Oh, Dahne, the perception is in the cave of drop plot points probably behind a rock next to wherever they threw the whole shadow thing. I just give up trying to not to pretend not feeling that hot smoke up my bum. Fingers crossed for the last 7 episodes to be amazing, if not I still have 7.5 bottles of Johnny Walker blue label and a fast forward button on the DVR remote. PS: that bundle of socks is on the way! I have a feeling you're going to need them.
ReplyDeleteMy socks thank you. They have started hiding from me when they know it's a Monday or Wednesday night.
ReplyDeleteWhile we have reserved an apartment for Perception in our cozy new condos, she is currently lurking by the cave entrance in hopes of being called out. I support her optimism but have a good therapist on call if she ends in crushing defeat. Of course our therapists need therapists to cope with their sudden work overload.
