----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remained the network to beat in the overnights on Thursday despite facing a 90-minute edition of “American Idol,” outdelivering Fox by 1.4 overnight rating points. Red-hot “The Big Bang Theory” topped the night, of course, with an 11.3 rating/18 share at 8 p.m. And that, comparably, was 13 percent above the year-ago telecast (10.0/16 on 3/08/12).

Next on the Eye net was veteran “Two and a Half Men” at a second-place 8.6/14 at 8:30 p.m. (one-tenth of a rating point behind competing “American Idol”), followed by sophomore “Person of Interest” (#1: 9.6/16 at 9 p.m.) and a repeat of freshman “Elementary” (#1: 5.8/ 11 at 10 p.m.). Consider “Elementary” a shoo-in for renewal for next season.

The 90-minute edition of “American Idol,” featuring the unveiling of the top 10 finalists, scored an 8.7/14 in the overnights from 8-9:30 p.m. Comparably, that finished second behind CBS in the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. half-hours (and first at 8:30 p.m.), with a loss of 26 percent from a one-hour edition on the year-ago evening (11.7/19 on 3/08/12).

A later edition of “Glee” on Fox led out “American Idol” with a 4.7/ 8 from 9:30-10:30 p.m. (5.2/ 8 to 4.3/ 7 by half-hour). Comparably, overnight retention for “Glee” out of the 9 p.m. portion of “Idol” (9.3/15) was just 51 percent. That said, is it time for these students to officially graduate?

ABC filled the 8 p.m. hour vacated by canceled “Zero Hour” with an encore of “Shark Tank” at a third-place 3.3/ 5 in the overnight. Next on the alphabet net were encore telecasts of “Grey’s Anatomy” (#4: 2.8/ 5) and “Scandal” (#2: 3.2/ 6) from 9-11 p.m.

In a mixture of repeats and originals, “Community” on NBC opened with a weak 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m., which was 27 percent below year-ago occupant “30 Rock” (3.0/ 5 on 3/08/12). Stop laughing, Chevy Chase! Next on the Peacock net were repeats of “Parks and Recreation” (#4: 1.6/ 3) and “The Office” (#4: 1.7/ 3) from 8:30-9:30 p.m., followed by an original installment of struggling “1600 Penn” (#4: 1.6/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.) and an encore of “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 2.9/ 6 at 10 p.m.).

Last were repeats of “The Vampire Diaries” (0.9/ 2) and “Beauty and the Beast” (0.7/ 1) on The CW.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. 1. 2.5 for Glee? Thats pretty good considering how low it was dipping before it went on hiatus

  2. 1.5 for community but it's loser? it gained from the previous week.

  3. Community got a 1.5? IT'LL BE RENEWED!

  4. 1.5 seems a little too high for Community - hope it's right

  5. Nothing else was on last night

  6. It helped to not be against anything

  7. Except the big bang and idol? I wouldn't call that nothing....

  8. seriously. the only two shows that were repeats were Vampire Diaries and Shark Tank. Two shows that don't really share Community's audience

  9. Down ? In overall viewers its up , last episode was 14.13 this one is 14.39

  10. I think it will continue to be a loser as long as NBC is doing so poorly but it is still good news for the show.

  12. 1.5 on the demo for Community, against a new episode of TBBT and American Idol, in a night full of repeats on NBC (minus 1600 Penn), I say pop-pop ! Excellent news, I smell a fifth season !

I hope both Go On & Community will make the cut, but if I have to choose, I'm Team Study Group forever - sorry, Support Group. The trend of their ratings (Go On going down to 1.1 without The Voice) and Community in syndication on Comedy Central this fall would suggest Community leads the pack among struggling NBC comedies (Whitney, Guys with Kids, 1600 Penn, Go On, Up All Night, Save Me). And now I'm happy because I feel like the show is really back (episodes 4.01 & 4.03 had left me doubtful).

If all of the people who flipped to NBC and watched the show for the first time saw that last scene in the study room, they will have to watch episode 4.06 next week. That scene was perfect, and it truly felt like something the previous seasons would've done. Jeff's storyline in the episode was well written.

Furthermore, "COMMUNITY last night tied American Idol among men 18-34." When you're tying with American Idol, no matter the demographic, it's always very good.

  13. Nice, Community went back up a bit and is remaining fairly constant with how it's been the past couple seasons. Hopefully it'll be renewed since a lot of other NBC shows are dropping like rocks.

  14. That is good for Community!

  15. You never know. Well I guess I misread that and maybe it did well I just don't want fans to get their hopes up. But glad it did great and the reason it's still on losers is that even though it did build to a 1.5, it still loses in the timeslot hence NBC loses money

  16. but the demo is falling every week and this what really matters in the end. I hope the show grow again in the final episodes.

  17. Awesome picture for your reaction to the 1.5 rating.
