SUNDAY 3/03/13 Metered Markets

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 7.0/11
ABC 4.8/ 8
NBC 3.5/ 6
Fox 2.4/ 4

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 3/05/12:
CBS: - 1, Fox: - 8. NBC: -10, ABC: -19

----------

-Winners:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “The Amazing Race” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS), “The Mentalist (CBS)

-Respectable Sampling:
“Red Widow” (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
There was one series-premiere: ABC drama “Red Widow,” which opened with a two-hour episode. And there was one season-premiere: Perennial NBC reality competition “Celebrity Apprentice.” But it was CBS that took the night in the overnights, beating No. 2 ABC by a considerable 46 percent. The variation among adults 18-49 (and other young adult demos) is, however, expected to be smaller.

CBS opened, of course, with granddaddy newsmagazine “60 Minutes,” and it dominated the 7 p.m. hour with an 8.9 rating/15 share in the overnights. The rest of the Eye net schedule -- “The Amazing Race” (6.2/10), older skewing “The Good Wife” (6.6/10) and “The Mentalist” (6.4/11) from 8-11 p.m. -- won each of the six half hours.

Over at ABC, the two-hour series premiere of aforementioned “Red Widow” finished second in the 9-11 p.m. block with 4.9/ 8 in the overnights. The positive news was almost full retention from lead-in “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 5.0/ 8 from 8-9 p.m.) and consistency in each of the four half-hours (5.0/ 8 – 4.9/ 8 – 5.0/ 8 – 4.7/ 8). But compared to year-go occupants “Desperate Housewives” (6.1/ 9 on 3/04/12) and the series-debut of failed “GCB” (6.0/10), this was a loss of 17 percent. Let’s wait and see what the demos look like.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 4.4/ 8 at 7 p.m.

Over at NBC, the season-premiere of “Celebrity Apprentice” slipped by 25 percent from its year-ago season-opener (5.1/ 8 on 2/19/12), with a 3.8/ 6 from 9-11 p.m. But the strength of “Celebrity Apprentice” falls within the young adult demos and it could still have an advantage over the competition. Stay tuned.

Filling the 7-9 p.m. daypart on NBC were two encores of “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” (7 p.m.: #3, 2.3/ 4; 7:30 p.m.: #3t, 2.0/ 4) and an 8 p.m. edition of “Dateline,” which finished third with a 4.3/ 7.

Fox capped off the evening with its animated combination of a repeat of “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.1/ 4), “The Cleveland Show” (#3t, 2.0/ 3), the regularly scheduled edition of “The Simpsons” (#4: 3.0/ 5), another episode of “The Cleveland Show” (#4: 2.3/ 3), a repeat of “Family Guy” (#4: 2.6/ 4) and “Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.2/ 3).

  1. If it's between Red Widow or Nashville, then I hope Red Widow sinks like a ship.

  2. Red Widow was great did u even watch it?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Red Widow has the worse timeslot, so that might just be the case.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters did just fine in those timeslots for years so I don't think it's entirely the timeslot's fault.
I think people are just more hesitant to get invested in new shows knowing that networks can cancel them anytime (see Zero Hour, 666 and Last Resort) and rather wait and see if a show is doing good before starting to watch. Does it make sense?

  5. Walking Dead is strong competition

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yes, it makes a lot of sense. Too many new shows seem to be failing and being cancelled very quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If you're talking about the DH time slot, Revenge will come back soon. As for Brothers and Sisters, it has become a dead time slot with 1 failing show after another ever since, just like Ugly Betty's old time slot on Thursdays.

It's not just the time slot, that's true but so far they don't have a show strong enough for that time slot.

  8. LOL, same. I love Nashville and I don't want it to be cancelled!

    ReplyDelete
  9. ouch @ red widow 9 pm
since its only 8 episodes hope they air them all

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also because Sundays at 10 is a tough time slot with all the cable shows there. The Borgias, Game of Thrones, Homeland, Mad Men, Dexter, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah it's very competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  12. with all that heavy competition, I think the best move would be putting a big genre show on that Timeslot to be able to fully compete with the compelling cable dramas

    ReplyDelete
  13. yes. I thought the 2nd episode was slightly better than the pilot. I love Goran but it just didn't click with me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think ABC is hoping to find another "Scandal" in their midseason shows.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why did Once Upon a Time get just a 2.1? what's going on?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Probably because they've been screwing with the schedule so much. These breaks are annoying and random.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 2.1 for OUAT ??? Are u kidding me? Lower than aganist the Grammy's....ABC crazy schedule really killed it

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah I think so. People forget when there's a show with all those breaks...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ouch! That's bad for OUaT. Not cancellation bad, but still bad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ABC also screwed over Revenge too, but a 2.1 for OUAT, yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, it's still safe for renewal, but it doesn't bode well for the future if it continues to sink.

    ReplyDelete
  22. what in the world happend to OUAT?

    ReplyDelete
  23. yeah, sure, we can always blame the quality of s.2 (ironically, the last 2 episodes were very strong) but this time ABC really messed up with their schedule.

Suddenly "Castle" became their top 3 drama!? he, what a crazy year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Okay, OUAT didn't fall too hard. Hopefully ratings will go back up next week.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Let Once keep falling, maybe the show runners will get the hint that the quality of the show is subpar and they shouldn't take their fans for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's weird that this good episode was a series low.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i know right i cant really understand all of these series low this season

    ReplyDelete
  28. Looks like it was a low night overall. Usually some shows get 10mill. Hate that OUAT got so low but yay for The Mentalist being on the win list.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Getting worried for The Mentalist...

    ReplyDelete
  30. ughh i will never forgive cbs if they cancel The mentalist why did they have to move it to Sundays :(((((

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hopefully statistics will change for The Mentalist on next week's Red John and Lorelei based storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Networks being stupid and killing their shows by putting them all on Sunday and on a crazy, senseless schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  33. agreed. ABC has one crazy schedule!

    ReplyDelete
  34. How is it possible that one of the best episodes of OUAT did so bad in ratings? It only proves that the ratings of a show are no reflection of the quality of the show. It's all about what week more people decided or are available to watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. OMG, OUAT ;/ I can't believe that ratings down so much since January, it's been only 1,5 month, and ratings are down and down. I know that OUAT will be renerw for next season, but I want that my favorite show back to norm. It's killing me inside ;//// Nest week ratings have to up, I believe it. It can;t stay in lows forever, and It can't down further...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I personally think that OUAT may have jumped the gun on certain matters and it has turned a lot of fans off. It happens quite often when a cast expands and the characters we love are being shifted in favour of giving screen time to the newer cast who viewers may not have any interest in. I know I for one was desperately looking forward to the Charming reunion and Regina's battle with the town and Henry for the curse and they haven't really explored that in any depth...

I think they are developing to many new plot points without finishing existing ones and fans are getting frustrated.

I know I didn't watch last nights ep as I had no desire to see what was happening outside of Storybrooke. I want Emma and Henry back and helping to figure out how to get back to fairy tale land and if they even want to go.

I also think, and people here are probably going to slaughter me, how many viewers actually don't like this Neil/ Baelfire plot. It was confusing enough without it and Henry already had several fractured relationships that needed exploring and they just added another one to the list.

My biggest fear is that all the other relationships are going to fall to the wayside in favour of developing this one.

I know online Bae has a lot of fans but it my opinion there an equal amount if not more, like I, that actually begrudge his appearance and the complications it adds and would much rather he wasn't added to the show at this point.

  37. Great for The Good Wife!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm going to guess that The Bible had something to do with the lower ratings across the board.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The poor writing and the direction of the storyline could be the reason OUAT's ratings have been dropping lately.
