CBS closed the week on a winning overnight Sunday note, beating distant No. 2 NBC by 68 percent. But individual program results for the Eye net are approximate due to basketball bleeding into primetime by about 45 minutes. Here are the results for CBS by half-hour:

Over at NBC, “Dateline” built by 19 week to week, with a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights from 7-9 p.m. And that led into diluted “Celebrity Apprentice” at a 3.9/ 6 from 9-11 p.m., which dipped by 15 percent from the 4.6/ 7 on the comparable year-ago evening. Sadly, it looks like awful Omarosa will be around for the duration. Note to Donald Trump: You are not No. 1!
In episode five news, ABC drama “Red Widow” remained a complete bust with a 2.9/ 5 in the overnights (#3) at 10 p.m. Comparably, that dropped by 40 percent from year-ago occupant “GCB” (4.8/ 8 on 3/25/12), with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Revenge” (4.4/ 7) of 66 percent. Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 4.0/ 7 at 7 p.m.) and sophomore “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 4.8/ 7 at 8 p.m.), which year-to-year dropped by 19 percent (versus a 5.9/ 9 on 3/25/12). “Revenge,” meanwhile, finished second in the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.5/ 7, which was down by a noticeable 30 percent from year-ago occupant “Desperate Housewives” (6.4/10 on 3/25/12).
Finishing in the No. 4 spot in each half-hour in the overnights was Fox with its line-up of repeats of “Bob’s Burgers” (1.4/ 4), “The Cleveland Show” (1.5/ 2) and “The Simpsons” (2.3/ 4) from 7-8:30 p.m., and original episodes of “Bob’s Burgers” (2.2/ 3), “Family Guy” (3.2/ 5) and “American Dad” (2.8/ 4) from 8:30-10 p.m. While “Family Guy,” of course, will be the standout in the young demographics, “Bob’s Burgers” remains an ongoing concern.

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the
Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)

Expect bad 18-49's for TGW and TM, given that the basketball overran for something like 45 minutes. Doesn't mean a thing.

ReplyDeleteRevenge wouldn't have gotten a two part season finale had it wasn't renewed imo. ABC have too many shows doing worse to even consider cancelling it. I do see it getting moved to Sundays at 10PM next season though, and don't think it'll remain in the same timeslot, but I think it'll definitely be renewed.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a third season of Revenge, its not going anywhere, while's its ratings are not what they use to be, they are still solid for a Sunday Vs some of the biggest competition on TV. ABC have struggled this season and Revenge is just about certain to be renewed as is Once.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope so, too. Usually they gain a bunch more viewers as the season finale section beings airing. I'm going to bet (and hope) that the ratings take a spike for the last four episodes.

How did The Good Wife jump so high, seems a little fishy to me.
ReplyDeleteWhile Once is still safe, these dropping numbers should worry the creators of the show. Perhaps give it some extra attention instead of focusing all your energy in a spin off?
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the comments about Revenge. Though its ratings aren't as good as last season, you have to consider the timeslot change and it is hard to compete with what used to be there (Desperate Housewives) but it's holding steady and proving to be a good pair with OUAT. ABC's main problem is getting a third show in an already busy night to stick in the 10pm timeslot as well as the 8pm slot on Thursdays

ReplyDeleteMy guess is that the rise in the demographics has a lot to do with the hype around Will/Alicia scenes.
TGW's overall 18-49 rating for the night is not 2.0, as this table seems to suggest. It fell into both the 9PM hour and the 10PM hour due to the basketball overrun, in which time it went from a 2.0 (due to The Amazing Race running into it) to a 1.8, then down to a 1.5 as it passed over to The Mentalist, which I think then went up to a 1.6. From this it's literally impossible to work out the numbers, but it can't be as reported above.

ReplyDeleteMY guess is that tomorrow's final ratings will have both TGW and TM somewhere around 1.5/1.6. When you consider they were airing 45 minutes later, that's not bad at all. In fact that's only a tad lower than what they'd normally get.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why everyone believes that OUAT is safe, yes its rating is still solid, but given the fact that the show's production cost is very high( the last cast, the effets, the morden and fairytale costumes etc), It is not unlikely that ABC thought with its rating it doesn't worth such investment. I would say compare to OUAT, revenge is much safer .

Yep, the final numbers should be a lot less, as you suggest around the 1.5/6 - 1.8/9 region I guess.
Not at all surprised about Once. It was a filler ep late in the season about the return of a character of at best middling popularity. Almost everything in the episode should have happened 10 episodes prior.

What do the CBS adjustments mean for The Good Wife and The Mentalist? Will The Mentalist go even lower?!
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily, but I wouldn't count on these ones (for both shows) anyway. Given that both started nearly an hour later than expected, CBS won't be reading too much into them.
ReplyDeleteBecause it IS safe. Networks don't make a habit of cancelling shows that are ABOVE their scripted average.
