-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Thursday overnight victory for CBS, which topped the night, of course, with red-hot “The Big Bang Theory” at an 11.0 rating/18 share at 8 p.m. Next was veteran “Two and a Half Men” at an 8.4/14 at 8:30 p.m. (tied with the 8:30 p.m. portion of “American Idol” on Fox), followed by sophomore “Person of Interest” (#1: 9.5/15) and freshman “Elementary” (#1: 7.6/13) from 9-11 p.m. Keep in mind that the stellar overall growth of 162 percent was a reflection of First Round – Day 1 of 2012 NCAA Basketball airing on the year-ago evening.

“Elementary”, which held an improved 79 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Person of Interest” (9.6/15) benefited opposite a repeat of “Scandal” on ABC (#2: 3.2/ 6).

“American Idol” on Fox, which featured the surprise departure of Curtis Finch Jr., finished second overall from 8-9 p.m., with a 7.9/13 in the overnights. And facing “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS means that “Idol” will also finish second in adults 18-49 (among other demos). Year-to-year, “American Idol” dipped by 25 percent (versus a 10.5/17 on 3/15/12).

Third-place ABC had only one original last night, “Grey’s Anatomy,” and it averaged a second-place 6.3/10 from 9-10 p.m. sandwiched between encores of “Shark Tank” (#3: 3.3/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and aforementioned “Scandal” (#2: 3.2/ 6 at 10 p.m.). Year-to-year, aging “Grey’s Anatomy” dipped by 15 percent (versus a 7.4/12 on 3/15/12).

It was dismal Thursday business as usual on NBC, meanwhile, care of its combination of “Community” and “Parks and Recreation,” which each finished fourth with a 2.1/ 3, soon-to-conclude “The Office” (#4: 2.6/ 4), recent entry “1600 Penn” (#4: 1.6/ 3), and a repeat of “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 2.7/ 5). Thankfully, NBC passed on the proposed “The Office” spin-off (“The Farm”) with Rainn Wilson.

The CW capped off the evening in primetime with a below-average 1.8/ 3 in the overnights for “The Vampire Diaries” at 8 p.m., followed by struggling “Beauty and the Beast” at a 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m. Of the current on the fence CW series, “Beauty and the Beast” is the least likely to return next season.
