----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
Despite airing two-hours of repeats, it was an easy overnight Tuesday victory for CBS, which bested No. 2 Fox by 2.8 rating points. But Fox could be the network to beat among adults 18-49 courtesy of young adult demo favorite “Hell’s Kitchen,” which returned with a typical 4.2/ 7 from 8-10 p.m.
An encore of “NCIS” on CBS was the top-rated option of the evening, with an 8.1/14 from 8-9 p.m. Next was compatible “NCIS: Los Angeles” at an also dominant 7.5/12 at 9 p.m. And the third Tuesday 10 p.m. telecast of “Golden Boy” also topped its time period, with a 5.5/10. But retention for “Golden Boy” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of the “NCIS: Los Angeles” encore (7.4/12) was lacking at 74 percent. And the expected older audience skew is not expected to bode well for renewal. CBS…enough with the cookie-cutter crime solvers.
On ABC, episode three of the new season of “Celebrity Wife Swap” perked up to a second-place 4.1/ 7 in the overnights at 8 p.m. (which tied the first half of competing “Hell’s Kitchen”). Comparably, that was 17 percent above the 3.5/ 5 from one week earlier. But the season (or series) finale of cooking competition “The Taste” dipped to third, with a 2.8/ 5 in the overnights at 9 p.m. And that, no doubt, will not bode well for renewal.
Older-skewing “Body of Proof” on ABC rose to second, with a 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m. And that was, comparably, 68 percent above lead-in “The Taste.”
Elsewhere, NBC had another abysmal Tuesday showing (minus “The Voice”) with its line-up of two episodes (repeat and original) of “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” (8 p.m.: #4, 2.5/ 4; 8:30 p.m.: #4: 2.4/ 4), repeats of “Go On” (#4: 1.9/ 3) and “The New Normal” (#4: 1.6/ 3) from 9-10 p.m., and sophomore “Smash” (#3: 2.3/ 4). The moral of the “Smash” story: Good intentions do no always results in an audience. As for “Go On” and “The New Normal” minus the lead-in support from “The Voice”: Yes, lead-in still matters.
The CW capped off this second Tuesday in March with encores of “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 0.7/ 1), which is 50/50 on renewal for next season, and a repeat of “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.5/ 1).

Even when NCIS and its LA counterpart are repeats they still win the night..way to go!!!!
ReplyDeleteGolden Boy is pretty much cancelled anyway, the cast have been given the go ahead to look for other roles.
ReplyDeleteAlso since HOD is doing the best of all the bubble shows on the CW (at the moment) and the CW arent going to be able to cancel everything I would say its most definitely going to be renewed. I also see Nikita renewed for a 4th and final season for syndication purposes and possibly Beauty depending on how it does when it comes back from break. Renewing those 3 in addition to the 3 already renewed would leave space for either 4 new shows to air in the fall or 3 and probably ANTM with additional shows picked up as mid season options.
I agree. CBS has been treating this show poorly but I guess it's because of the poor ratings. It doesn't surprise me that it's been flopping.
ReplyDeleteCANCEL GOLDEN BOY!!!
ReplyDeleteAgree! I don't understand the 50/50.
ReplyDeleteI think it means that it's unsure whether it'll be renewed or not. But I believe that HOD should come back for season 3.
ReplyDeleteIt becomes increasingly easy to not watch network TV every time they have these extended Hiatus's. I will never understand why the break in December and then again in Feb/March. Maybe they should all go the route of paytv with shorter seasons that run all the way through the episodes and take the break
ReplyDeleteNetworks would have to order more series to fill these gaps if they gave shorter seasons. There would be more cancellations also.
ReplyDeleteHappy BOP is standing on its own, that's really good news for the show. which hopefully means they will air the entire season at least. As for Smash, really NBC, CBS and ABC would have cancelled it by now, they have had really really low ratings/viewers.
