Assume that you were put in charge of the CW, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and Arrow are already renewed and you need to choose eight of these series to join them on next years schedule, which would you choose? (pick 8)

  1. Hart of Dixie, Nikita, BaTB, The Selection, The Hundred, Reign, Company Town, and The Originals.

I don't watch any of those, but it seems likely, tbh.

  10. Renew:
    Hart of Dixie
    Beauty and The Beast
    Nikita (final season)

    New:
    The Originals
    The Tomorrow People
    Blink
    The Hundred

    Notes:
    - There's not a big benefit to renewing Nikita again but they're kind of stuck with it 'til the studio arm of Warner Brothers gets the show into syndication.
    - The Originals is a lock. Not much else to say here.
    - Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast aren't breakout hits but their numbers are reliable and their fanbases are loyal and, in the case of BatB, very passionate and active in social media.
    - The Tomorrow People gets a pick-up unless it's a disaster. With the state of The CW being what it is, they'll probably want to double down on a winner.
    - Blink has a good chance because all of the CW pilots are (except for Company Town) ambitious, big productions with sprawling casts. Many of those will also have SFX budgets to pay for. Blink will probably be the least expensive of all the new programs to produce.
    - The Hundred is the one pilot that may have a shot at expanding CW's narrow demographic.

    The Selection
    Blink
    Oxygen

  12. This french website reviewed The Selection script and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Again, a good script doesn't guarantee anything but it's something for now.

  21. I think that it would be between The Selection and The Hundred for a pic up. Preferably I'd choose The SELECTION.

  22. Nikita, Cult, The Originals and The Tomorrow People

  23. defenetly hart of dixie the best ever !

  24. Beauty and the Beast definitely. The show has gotten better and better and better episode after episode. It needs a second season, and a third, etc. There is a lot more story to tell.

  25. If I were the CW head and had the leverage to use Netflix money to promote a lot of new shows, this is the year I would make the big gamble. I would not pick up Nikita for the fall but instead have it play 22 episodes back to back throughout the summer. Then it gets the episodes it needs for syndication and has a shot at stabilizing the summer and making it appointment TV for the CW. I think Nikita would be better off run like a USA or TNT show and summer is a great time for them. I would also be in talks about getting some comedies and game show/reality TV for midseason. Obviously midseason drama is a bust and chances are some new show is going to be a big bust in fall as well. It's time to diversify the CW.

As for returning shows, I would pick up Hart of Dixie only because it can be paired with Company Town to make a non-genre night. Again, they need some diversification. I would also give the nod to Beauty and the Beast provided its ratings keep it in the fourth or fifth place overall. I contrary to popular belief do not think the post-VD slot is a good thing and retention is not as big a factor as ratings or potential growth. If it doesn't pan out, then stick a comedy block in at midseason. For the record I watch neither Hart of Dixie or Beauty and the Beast so I am certainly not fans of those shows.

The pilots are a bit trickier because while I applaud the CW for moving away for teen soaps, I'm not sure putting all your eggs in the teen genre basket is a good plan either. Most of their pilots sound the same and I am not so sure that any will pull in BOTH the genre crowd and the teen crowd although that seems to be what they are hoping for. Since I can't say pilot redo, I would ax Reign and Blink from teh roster. I simply do not see Reign becoming a hit since teen historicals aren't making a splash right now. Maybe I'm wrong and they can be on the cutting edge of a trend. I do know that it sounds like the show with the most sex in it from what I'm hearing so far so maybe that's the angle they are going for. It sure does not sound like a teen version of Game of Thrones. As for Blink, either we haven't heard much about the actual show or it is the weirdest premise of the show so far. It seems melodramatic and vision questy and that does not seem to fit in with the other pilots.

New shows that should go on the roster. Obviously The Originals needs to be paired with Vampire Diaries. If it is losing a lot of demo by midseason then I think it is finally time to move Vampire Diaries to the later slot and put the new shows before it. Quite honestly I think they should have done that 2 years ago. Company Town goes with Hart of Dixie. If The Hundred concentrates more on the earth quests than it does on stupid teen drama then it should be paired with Supernatural on Tuesday. Provided The Selection does go more Hunger Games and less Bachelor, then it can be placed almost anywhere on the schedule. If it is more Bachelor then it goes with Beauty and the Beast. Otherwise BatB goes to Friday. The Tomorrow People sounds like the best match for Arrow, but again only if it avoids teen emoangsting. Oxygen to me is a more midseason choice if they are going to stick with dramas at midseason, although they shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't say anything about the new shows I haven't seen theirs pilots so I can't give an opinion. The only CW show that I care about is Beauty and the Beast. It's a show that barely gets promotion and everybody is still thinking about the first few episodes which weren't as good as the latest ones; the story is improving and getting more exciting. This show has so much potential, you should watch it :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oldies : Hart of Dixie / Nikita Season Finale maybe Mid Season / The Carrie Diaries
News : The Selection / The Hundred Mid Season / The Tomorrow People / The Originals / Oxygen Mid Season

  28. I definitely want a second season for BATB. The last two shows that I actually watched on CW were Everwood and Seven Heaven. If I am watching BATB that means it is a good show. I use to watched Revenge but the girl stopped getting revenge. Some of my friends are watching Scandal but I would have to pick it up from the beginning. As you can see, the only show that I do make time to watch is BATB. I see that Netflix has the old Beauty and the Beast but I like this version better.

Never saw or heard about the Secret Circle until I started reading the comments. Was it really a good show?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think the CW will renew B&tB for a short season of 13 episodes, move it to Friday, and pair it with Nikita, and then they'll either order the back 9 or cancel it, depending on how it does in that slot.
HoD and The Selection should go to Monday imo with The Selection leading to HoD. HoD did better in that slot last year than it does today, so why not return it there.
In Tuesday I'd have either The Hundred or Oxygen, the better pilot of the two, and have it lead out to SPN. SPN is the only show that would get good ratings in Tuesdays at 9PM for the CW imo, I think even TVD and Arrow won't do as well as SPN in that slot.
In Wednesday I'd keep Arrow and have The Tomorrow People aired afterwards, a two hours of Amell cousins and Berlanti shows. Here's hoping that pilot would be good..
In Thursday TVD and The Originals.
Either The Hundred or Oxygen could also be saved as a mid-season replacement.

YOU NEED TO STOP! Cut the crap!! STOP trolling us!!
Is not our fault that TSC got cancel. Get over it. Leave us alone!!!
I vote BatB and The originals. Dont care about the rest.

I love Beauty and the Beast. They deserve a second season.

  39. This is what I think the cw should do next year:

    Monday
    The Tomorrow People
    The Hundred

    Tuesday
    The Selection
    Hart of Dixie

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    Supernatural

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    The Originals

    Friday
    Nikita
    Repeats

The reason I put repeats after nikita instead of beauty is because I think its ratings would be too bad and I think the cw is better off saving the money to promote all 4 of its new shows, even though the originals is pretty much self promoted.

    ReplyDelete
  40. do you even watch the show or know about it to think it will do bad, I mean worst than Nikita, this thursday alone BATB did .3 800,000 for a repeat that no Beasty wanted to see, and Nikita with a new episode (and a 3 years fam base) dod 1 million .3. Seriously, the cards are not picked yet! BatB is becoming the obsession of many and the network is listening!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Do you even watch the show, because a lot of the fans of this show are in love with the cast. Just saying!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Beauty, The Selection and Oxygen, the CW needs to get back to its roots, get rid of the crappy Carrie Diaries and air supernatural themed shows.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Renew: Nikita, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie
Pick-Up: The Selection, The Originals, The Tomorrow People, Oxygen, The Hundred

Definitely pair The Tomorrow People with Arrow, The Originals with Supernatural (on Monday or Tuesday)*, The Selection with The Vampire Diaries.

With Nikita, Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, and Oxygen, it's tricky. Oxygen could probably work with Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, or Nikita. But only Beauty and the Beast has done well enough to actually seem like it could lead-in/out a new show. So maybe put them together on Monday or Tuesday, whichever night The Originals/Supernatural doesn't end up on.

Hart of Dixie is steady ratings wise, but with an increase of Sci-Fi/Supernatural shows, it'd get kind of lost on Monday or Tuesday, same for The Carrie Diaries. So maybe they should move the lighter shows to Friday? Personally, I'm more likely to skip something like The Carrie Diaries or Hart of Dixie before skipping something like Arrow or The Vampire Diaries. Of course, I'd never completely skip it, but watch it later online. The point being, I'm okay with missing something that isn't super plot heavy.

But then there's Nikita on Friday too. They could do 13 episodes of The Carrie Diaries and Hart of Dixie, and whichever does better on Friday night, order a back 9? Then premiere Nikita in January/February and just burn off the series into June? But if they both do well on Friday, what do you do then? Have Nikita replace a failed new show on a different night? Is that even a possibility?

Maybe pick-up something like The Hundred for mid-season? ABC has done 7/8/9 episode seasons in the past (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal), and it's worked out well for them. Or order 13 episodes and if it does well, make sure there's a good finale-esque episode around 8 or 9 that can end the season on. Then hold the last four or five episodes until Season 2, that way there'd be a few more episodes, which means less breaks next season.. If it doesn't do well, just air the rest into June.

*The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will basically have the same audience. So putting them together makes sense, but you're not going to see much of a ratings increase, if any, if you pair it with The Vampire Diaries. Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah fans will watch it no matter what night it airs on. The same can't be said for something like The Selection.

  46. BATB and Nikita! I don't watch any of these other shows.Stopped watching TVD after two seasons.Still liked La Femme Nikita though with Peta Wilson.

    ReplyDelete
  47. She isn't blaming Batb of anything, calm down. Some of you Batb needs to dial it back a notch, it's getting annoying and you're embarrassing yourselves with this behavior on many websites. Would you like to be treated like this if your show got cancelled and a year from now you still missed it? Try to put yourself in someone else's shows for a change. I'm usually so calm but sometimes... God...

    ReplyDelete
  48. They're not going to put two new shows on the same night, especially on a night the struggle with. And they're definitely not going to waste Arrow as a lead-in on a series that got renewed in February. And they've worked for two seasons to get The Selection to work, they're not going throw it with Hart of Dixie. That's be such a waste. And stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why do you assume all of the people downvoting you are TSC fans? I'm a TSC fan and I don't blame your show for anything. And your comment is borderline abusive. People downvote, that's it. Maybe because you're being so rude.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree but like you said the fans of the show love the cast, if they didn't love the cast they wouldn't be fans of the show. Yes I tried watching it, I loved the idea of the show when its description was released and watched the first few episodes but I could get past the main girl I forget her name, the one from Smallville.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Beauty And The Beast for sure. I love chemistry between the characters on the show.

  52. Beauty and the Beast!!

  53. Have you ever seen how they talk to us, how they insult the show?? If you dont, please just shh thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  54. i invite you to see the comments of BatB and see the negative points. Thats my problem.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Actually, im not.... You can see the other fans, they're nice (: and they got it worst than I.

    ReplyDelete
  56. You should try it, i liked the show since the beginning and liked the actress since Smallville, so i will be biased to tell you to try it, but also I have heard many new fans liking the show after episode 4 and saying how the main actors speciffically have grown to be the perfect cast to recreate the Beauty and the Beast.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I dont need to pick eight - unless I can vote for Beauty and the beast eight times ??

    ReplyDelete
  58. Calm down? what r u talking about.. ".getting annoying and you are embarrassing yourselves?" because we dont bash other shows and we only say how much we love it...whats embarrassing about that? Sorry and its being known since before BATB aired the hate for the show from Ringer, TSC and the old BATB , but the show still has its following and is growing everyday. At least compared to the other "bubble shows" fans that u dont really see them out here talking about how they like their show but the ones you see are always hating on BATB blah blah blah

  60. where did I say anything about BatB? :/:/:/ Next time before U attack sb think instead of writing nonsense

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, exactly. Don't waste your time arguing, I know I won't lol.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Neps, I have never watched it. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion of what the cw should do, which is entirely based on the ratings. I could not have watched a single cw show and still do it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I disagree.
    - if the tomorrow people is a self-starter like arrow was this season, it will be a better lead-in for the hundred than most shows the cw can offer it now. And arrow has proven than launching a new show at 8pm is possible. Promoting the pair as an all new genre night would be their best bet for the night imo.
    - i don't think they are going to mess up with the only night of the week were they are working, wednesdays. it is just not worth the gamble and, as i have said, new shows can be self-starters just fine as long as they are well promoted and they are good enough.
    - i was also a bit meh with the selection/hod pairing. however: again, there is the thing that a new show is better of being launched at 8pm than at 9pm, so the selection can self-start and, if hart of dixie loses too much of the lead-in, they can just move it to friday at mideason for syndication and launch oxygen or another midseason drama there. But people who have read the books from the selection have been sayig that they are actually quite compatible, so I am also going by that. I think it would be a win for the cw if the selection did arrow type of numbers, even if hart of dixie maintains its current numbers..

    ReplyDelete
  64. BATB, Nikita, Cult, The Selection, The Tomorrow People, The Hundred and Oxygen

    ReplyDelete
  67. i love the oldies u kept. i dont knw much about d new 1s. but i think CW cleans house all the time. evrytime i like a show it gets canceled

    ReplyDelete
  68. My first pick for renewal is BATB. It’s a really good show that puts others shows attempt at romance to shame. If you like a good love story this show will leave you wanting more! I really can’t get enough of it! Not many shows get in my head like this one has!! If you haven’t watched or if you watched the first few but not recently, give some of the new eps a try, they are really, really good!

As far as the new shows people are talking about I know nothing about them, does anyone have a link that I could read up on them? Also, in my opinion, the CW would be smart to put The Originals (the only new one I know about since i watch TVD) after TVD because I believe that is the only show that would hold TVD fanbase. Put anything else there and it will not retain the TVD viewers like the network expects. I say this because I know TVD fans like to go online and discuss the show right after, not all but most do. Maybe having Klaus bring up the rear will keep their attention? But I have my doubts that it will succeed. Mystic Falls without Klaus? No Klaus and Carolynn? Mmmmm.....I’m not sold yet.

HOD, well I was a fan but not anymore, and I’m sure I’m not the only viewer they just lost. I wouldn’t be suprised if the ratings drop. Wade and Zoe’s chemistry was the only thing that show had going for it, but now that Wade cheated, that romance/love story is ruined for me.

  69. hart of dixie <3

    ReplyDelete
  70. @Ghost....you should try BATB again, I suggest picking up around ep9, it has really found its groove lately. I have never watched Smallville, I have never seen Cat before, so I don’t know if her Smallville character was one that would taint her new character but the connection between her and Vincent in BATB has been really building and their scenes together have been so good they really draw you into the moment. Perhaps enough for you to forget about previous roles? Plus there are big changes coming to the show soon after it come back on March 14th. New characters, new twists, and possible having Vincent and JT relocating.

    ReplyDelete
  71. My choice is beauty and the beast. And that's is my top and only show. Our fan base are loyal to the show. I would be upset if it does get cancel. I trust this system to count all the vote. I can't watch BATB while it's air Thursday night but I check every 5mins to see if its upload on CW apps. I watch my show on my phone or iPad . I'm just hoping these would count .

  73. I really dont get the fans of tsc.... So sad....

  74. HOW can u talk about something you dont watch "roll eyes" Srly!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I picked Nikita, HoD and BatB, and for the new shows: The Tomorrow People, Oxygen, Company Town, The Selection and The Originals. I should note, though, that unless two of the new shows are half-season shows, I believe we should have only picked 7 - The CW has 7 spots available in the schedule, since 3 shows have already been renewed and they program 10 hours overall.

I would have liked to pick Cult, but let's be honest - if I were in charge of The CW, I'd never renew it. It's a shame because I think the show has potential, creatively.

    My schedule:

    Monday
Two new genre shows - I'm thinking The Tomorrow People and The Selection. Yes, it's risky to premiere two freshmen shows together, but in the network's current state, they HAVE to take some risks. And personally, I'd rather do this - than split up Arrow/SPN, the only effective pairing they currently have - so both could launch news shows. Just promote the hell out of this "genre night" and, well, make sure the shows are actually good.

    Tuesday
    8 - Company Town
    9 - Hart of Dixie
While The CW in general is heading in a genre direction, they may need to pick up one "mundane" drama to save some cash, and I think CT sounds better than Blink or Reign. And I think moving HoD to the Tuesday 9pm slot would be wise - it has a small, but loyal audience that will follow it. Better than premiering yet ANOTHER show in that slot, how many have died there already?

    Wednesday
    8 - Arrow
    9 - SPN
No-brainer, here. Splitting those two up would be dangerous, since we still don't know that Arrow can stand on its own.

    Thursday
    8 - TVD
    9 - The Originals
If The Originals can't hold TVD's audience, nothing will. So I agree with Dahne that if Originals doesn't do well, they should cancel/move it in midseason and just move TVD to the 9pm slot. Maybe a new show would do better before it than after.

    Friday
    8 - Nikita
    9 - BatB
BatB didn't do as well after TVD as the network hoped, but nothing ever does, and I don't think they can afford to cancel this show too. It's between The Carrie Diaries and BatB for the last renewal (Nikita and HoD are safe in my opinion) and I think BatB is preferable for several reasons (lower budget, not as heavily promoted, fits more with the network's new line-up, rabid fanbase that would drive The CW nuts if they cancelled it just like TSC and Ringer). Friday 9pm is a horrible slot, but SOMETHING has to go there and if BatB cultivates enough of an audience to even get 0.4, that'll probably be enough. And Nikita/BatB isn't the worst pairing, at least they both feature action-y female leads.

  76. Beauty and the Beast is by far the best TV I have watched in a long, long
time - and I am in the UK!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. HoD, Blink, B&tB, The Hundred, Oxygen, Tomorrow People, Nikita, The Selection (Cult gets an honorable mention)

  78. All your hopeless promotion will achieve nothing.See you in may cancellation.I surely would want to know about your enthusiasm then!!

  85. Renew: Beauty and the beast!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Beauty and the Beast deserves as many seasons as possible. It is a wonderful show and improves as the show progresses. It has a LOT of potential and although I liked The Secret Circle, BatB is a million times better than TSC. I also think it is better than TVD because, in my opinion, TVD has been falling out. I still watch it but it isn't as interesting to me anymore. BatB is the only show I absolutely love and am addicted to on the CW. So please don't take this television show away. It seriously has changed my life. :)

  89. Beauty and the beast definitely, Hart of Dixie and thats it for the older ones. Never seen any of the others. One thing I ask though if a program gets cancelled they should do a proper ending for the people who have supported the show instead of just cutting it off. Thanx

  104. Honestly, BatB is the only show on this list I watch, and I watch religously. For once you have an engaging cast, good story lines, and it just gets better every ep. Keep this one for sure.

  105. Sorry, I don't want 8 of them, just Beauty and the Beast please. It's the only one I watch. The rest don't appeal to me at all.

  109. I'm so sorry, other shows, but I chose Beauty and the Beast to be added in 2013-2014 because it is the only show that occupies my thoughts for a long time now! And I would be thrilled if CW Network would prolong the admiration for this wonderful show!

TVD should definitely be renewed. So should BATB and Carrie Diaries. :)

  111. Totally agree! There is so much more story to tell and we need many more seasons of Beauty and the Beast!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Beauty and the Beast & The Originals! I don't know much about the other new pilots. Where would I go to find more info on each of the new ones?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Beauty and the Beast is all I want!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Beauty and the Beast definitely. It's the best show ever. Yes, there are many people who don't like it but it's probably because they only watched the first or second episode. The show gets better and better episode after episode and it has a great story. And yes, it has a lot more of stories to tell so it needs more seasons.
