  1. Cute, fun, filler episode. I loved Jane with the soldiers.

  2. Decent ep, felt a bit heavy handed at times but an ok standalone

  3. Extremely boring, I must say.
More interested in the upcoming Red John-centered episodes.

  4. good, classick ep, i like these.this season has been really good so far. Have you also noticed that there hasn't been an episode without at least one jisbon scene for a pretty long time? We could only dream about that back in season 4 or 3

  5. This episode worked on so many levels. The treatment of the serious issues like sexual harassment, PTSD etc., the way they brought Cho's military past into it, Jane with the young soldier helping him out - not to mention the memory palace!

I like how big a part memory played in this. His great memory is one of the things Jane still has, perhaps his greatest asset, so I imagine the thought of losing that must shock him. Trauma, post trauma, memories - these are things Jane can relate to/deems important, albeit without the army experience.

That scene where Jane thanks the room was really poignant. Really well done. I love Jane's dark side (looks like it might return next week - yay!) but it's important to remind people that he can be incredibly kind and he often goes out of his way to help certain people. No one person is completely good or completely bad, Jane is often both (and in large doses). It's what makes him an interesting character.

Yes, I know I already mentioned Cho but...CHO! Guys, when the press release for this episode came out I commented over at spoilertv saying something along the lines of 'if they don't relate this to Cho's military past somehow then they're missing a trick!'....THEY DID IT. I LOVE YOU WRITERS. That salute...the music...perfect.

I loved it. And there was even time for some humour as well.

I wouldn't use the word 'filler' here, it didn't seem like that to me. IF 'filler' means an episode without Red John then that makes 90-95% of the episodes filler, but that simply isn't the case.

  6. It seems to me that you find most episodes boring and only really care about the Red John ones, so why tune in every week, even when you know it's a standalone?

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not having a go I'm just asking a legitimate question :)

  7. It is a legitimate question, you don't have to guard yourself immediately, I won't attack you for your opinion lol. I tune in because in previous seasons even standalone episodes had hints or conversations linked to Red John that would later prove important to the Red John storyline, so I watch the standalones hoping for those kind of conversations or hints in season 5 too. I'm not a big fan of The Mentalist nor do I watch because of 'Jisbon', I look for interesting storylines, and the Red John story caught my eye from the pilot and that's why I watch The Mentalist. I hope I cleared it out for you.

  8. Jane with Pete, I've loved their interection! Plus, we've known Lisbon's secret instrument: the clarinet!! LOL

  9. Honestly, if anything Season 5 has had more Red John than any other, especially in terms of the episodes in between having mentions of him. In Seasons 1 and 2, the episodes that bridged the main RJ episodes had barely a mention of him - Season 2 in particular, which went from episodes 8 to 23 with barely anything. Now I personally don't have an issue with this (I love everything about the show, the stand alones and the RJ arc) but due to this I thought, if anything, you'd enjoy this season more than previous ones. I'd put S5 up there with S3 in terms of the frequency of Red John-stuff.

Anyway, your 'not being a big fan' of the show explains it anyway, so I understand where you're coming from. tbh it's good that you even tune in at all, most people who don't consider themselves fans wouldn't bother. Not going to turn away extra viewers ;)
