Wow. I was not expecting much from this episode but it shocked the hell out of me. Loved the Robin/Marshall dance off. LOL forever at "Cause I'm Sparkles, bitch".
Did not see that Ted twist coming. THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY AND GOT UNEXPECTEDLY SAD. WAS NOT EXPECTING THESE FEELS.
I don't even know what to think of that episode...total downer, really. Although Ted's little speech to his future wife already made their relationship better than Barney and Robin's... :p
That wasn't a bash, it was simply an opinion on the romantic merit of Barney and Robin's relationship. Although a negative opinion of their relationship is just a prevalent as a positive one, which are obviously not in shortage.
I totally agree with you, and it made this episode special. At first I was really annoyed with all the time travellers - but then... just wow.
It makes sense though, Ted feels really lonely, I would feel like that too if all my friends were happily in a relationship and I was still out there on my own.
I know. I was thinking "God this time traveling thing is so stupid" and then when Barney was all "This took place 5 years ago, you're alone in the bar" I was stunned! It rocked!
Which you have obviously found of merit. I just haven't. The only one that comes to mind that I personally found exceptional was Barney's apology after lying about the Playbook.
ok that episode had really funny moments and when ted talked to his future wife that was intense emotional BUT that storylines in this epi were a bit confusing for me - i really don't know if i understand everything :)
wow, I loved this episode, like it threw me for the loop b/c I don't spoilers for this show much and at first I was sad when Ted was all alone and then I realize we're close. I love Ted the most and finally he's about to be happy again, it's been a long time coming.
It was a really great episode felt sad for Ted at the end but mostly a good sad cause he's so close to getting his 8 year dream it's going to be lovely to see him date the mother if we get to see that in season 9.
Barney & Robin were cute so was Marshall and Robin's dance off this was definitely the light part of the episode for me. Plus, Sparkles bitch and The Robin Scherbatsky which now I really need to have that drink it looks really delicious. Bonus, Barney and Ted at the end priceless moment.
does anyone else have the feeling in the future when ted is telling the story to his kids, that his wife has died??? because the way he wants everything to start sooner, (45 more days) just to have more time with her - seems as if his time with her is finite and that he just wants as much time with her as he can get.
Actually it should be more than 45 since in-show this episode was taking place in April. It's 45 days for Ted and co. It's a little more than that for the audience.
Couple of months back I wrote the post detailing that scenario on tv . com, himym forums. I have had the same feeling for a long time. So, I agree 100%, it would be in the spirit of the show, that's for sure.
glad someone else has this suspicion as well, the episode just seemed so sad - more like a memorial than someone merely excited to meet the love of their life. i mean, why else would 2 teenagers be so intent on listening to a long arduous tale about their parents? unless if one of those parents wasn't around anymore - if the mother had just died....i could see them wanting to know more about her - to keep her memory alive.
Few of you might remember me... those who does, also might remember I ALWAYS was a huge fan of Ted and... well, I'm just gonna say I cried when Barney said to Ted: "Look around, you're all alone". That's sad truth for Ted - he is at the point he never was before. He's completely alone, even friends can't help him, noone can help him. All he has to do is wait and wait, and as it turns out, he only has 45 days to wait. I fully understand his desperation in this kind-of-flash-forward(flash-back?), where he goes to The Mother and he says to her he loves her till the end of times and far beyond. I mean, he's been waiting his entire life for this and he is tired of it, tired of trying, tired of everything.
The good news in all of this, is that life finally prepared something good for him, because - let's be hones - ever since Stella left him at the Oltar, life has been kicking him in the nuts and he only had few happy moments, rest was just downfall for the poor guy.
On the other hand - I really like what creators did to that character - I've been complaining a lot about how Ted was not the same guy, how he was always left out, how episodes were "B+R-centered" or "L&M&M-Centered", but now... their main focus is Ted and I really, really fuckin' love that.
As Bree from Desperate Housewives said in one of the episodes: "The best is yet to come". Looking forward to it! :)
After watching the episode again I've got this horrible feeling that Ted dies because he says if her could go back there he would go back to the old apartment and see his stuff, or go and spend time with Lilly Marshall and Marvin or spend time with Robin and Barney. He says it like he doesn't want to wast time at Robots vs Wrestlers. He also talks to the wife about wanting to spend every minute with her and that he will lover her all his life and Beyond.
In regards to the Episode on a whole It was the best one yet in my opinion.
Nice catch, I was counting 45 days from yesterday and it did not match the proposed date of Barney's and Robin's wedding - now that makes sense: May 25 minus 45 days is April 10, so that's probably when this episode takes place.
Or simply Ted loves her and wants her so much that he just needs to be with her as much as possible? Why be so presumptous and making statements over nothing?
I thought the same, and I seriously hope it's just because he's a hopeless romantic and was feeling really lonely back in 2013. Besides, one would think the kids would look sadder if their mom just died.
I'm really hoping is that instead the mother having passed away. It did crossed my mind as I wanted the scene, but I don't want it to be so! It would be just so damn sad.
perhaps they dont look too sad because all the footage of them was shot in season 1, before this story arc was fully planned out. all the shots of the kids are reactionary, no speech. i only think they will bring them back for the final, espcially since that girl is on nikita now.
I know, I keep calling her Alex in my mind! You're right, or maybe they did plan that the mom will be dead but if the kids (who btw, I have the feeling will be named Luke and Leia) looked sad, it would kinda ruin the hole story from day one. ... I'm still hoping she's (or will be?) alive.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
FREAKING AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was in tears when Ted was talking to "the mother" at her apartment. I know it was fake but ACK!!! SO AMAZING!!!!
45 Days!!! 45 Days before he meets her!!!!!

The tag was great and hilarious.
Great episode and I loved it.
I don't even know what to think of that episode...total downer, really. Although Ted's little speech to his future wife already made their relationship better than Barney and Robin's... :p
ReplyDeleteyeah, because Barney's never made a romantic speech to Robin....
ReplyDeleteI respect the fact that you dislike Barney/Robin but do you have to bash them in every comment?
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't a bash, it was simply an opinion on the romantic merit of Barney and Robin's relationship. Although a negative opinion of their relationship is just a prevalent as a positive one, which are obviously not in shortage.

It's closer to 42 as 45 is technically that Friday but yes! He's meeting her at the end of the season!!

Yeah, I thought that was a possibility but after Ted's speech, I am starting to believe in it more strongly now.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it seems like a strong possibility...especially after last night!
ReplyDeleteThumbs up to that!

ReplyDelete"Cause I'm Sparkles, bitch!" best line in ages!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! One of the best EVER!!! JUST 45 DAYS
ReplyDeleteThe mother is dead :(

ReplyDeleteAmazing episode, not much else to say.
Jayma was so funny, I wish she'd had more scenes.
