Shawthanksgiving Redmption... instant classic! Loved it as I wasn't expecting the Shawshank twist... Loved Jeff's reunion with his father, although it would've been cool to see how he finally found him. Great that they finally gave him some closure on that plot and opened up the possibility for more interaction with his dad and brother, which I would like to see.
I've been one who has defended Community this season. I am aware that it is different, that it can't be exactly the same, but that didn't have to be a bad thing. And as the season has progressed I feel that the new showrunners and writers have gotten a better grasp and improved as it's gone on.
Tonight, they full on succeeded! It truly, honestly felt like a Community episode that, if I was not aware of Dan Harmon's leaving, would not think anything was amiss. It had it's hilarious moments ("Abed get's it"), it had it's sweet moments (Jeff standing up to his father and having dinner with his real family + the Dean), and it had it's little callbacks without making a big deal out of them (the Dean wearing Jeff's Halloween/Paintball outfit, Britta's the worst).
And Jeff's dad, I had hoped everyone would get to meet him, but Britta being there was pretty funny. From the sounds of what Abed narrated at the end he seemed to imply Jeff would see his father again, or maybe I heard it wrong.
The only gripe I would have is the tease of Britta wanting Jeff at the end. She's with Troy and Jeff/Britta work better as friends.
I agree. If the show can keep up this quality, while cutting back on Stalker dean and over the line therapist Britta, and without shoving Jeff/Britta down our throats (It's been done and over with already) then it deserves to get a season 5 (and 6, and a movie)
While I do find the Dean still funny, I do think they've amped him up too much with the stalker quality and the costumes. Britta as an inadvertently decent yet still lame therapist is still good. And I'm with you, Jeff/Britta has been done and over with at this point. Just let Troy/Britta and Jeff/Annie be.
For those that think me as a Community hater, I loved this episode deeply, and it might be because Im drunk as anything, and it might be relief that it was so much better than last weeks epi, but this episode was amazing, I laughed all the way through, and I was sober at that point. I mean you could still tell there was a difference and there were flaws, but overall, this was the community I love and I hope for more episodes like this. Amazing - 8.5/10.
Oh I agree, the season hasn't been the same as it once was, but how could it realistically be? That doesn't necessarily mean it's bad though. The cast and the characters are still the same at least. Hopefully the new showrunners and writers just needed to get into the groove of writing for Community.
The cast is the same. The characters, however, did not feel the same for the first couple of episodes at least. But yeah, I think they seem to have started to understand the characters and writing needs of the show better as they went on.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love that they have all these holiday episodes this year, and because NBC screwed this schedule, they're all airing way too late. LOL.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh God, Jeff. That was so sad and painful. I loved it!
Where's Andre?
LOVED it. It would have been awesome around, you know, Thanksgiving but whatever.
ReplyDeleteI hope they do have a die hard christmas.

ReplyDeleteI think they will, in some of the previews Abed is seen with a stained sleevless shirt on chirstmas.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff! We need to see Willy Jr again.

Bring on Die Hard Christmas!
I keep hearing about this episode Rash wrote with a Freaky Friday theme. Can't wait to see that.
ReplyDeleteThat episode was great, and of course Troy says the best line: "Why did I have to go third?"

ReplyDeleteThe show just hasn't been the same this season, but this episode was pretty much spot on. Jeff's speech to his dad in the end was really good.
