MOVIES : Star Trek Into Darkness - Plot Details emerge from screening

Thanks to Darthlocke for the heads up.

Peter Weller's character in Star Trek Into Darkness may have been revealed in International Screeners along with other spoilers which are tying into the prequel comics: Countdown to Darkness (Issue's 1 and 2 are released, issue 3 is due out at the end of the month!)

"While Benedict Cumberbatch's character's motivations remain a mystery, the biggest reveal included in the new footage seems to be the identity of Peter Weller's character. The site reports that Weller will be playing "Admiral Marcus" who, one assumes, is the father of Alice Eve's Carol Marcus. In fact, an "Alex Marcus" was recently teased in the pages of the "Countdown to Darkness" comic book prequel. If both Marcuses are indeed one and the same, that means that Weller's character was the former first officer on a different U.S.S. Enterprise, serving under Captain Robert April.

The other major plot detail revealed is that, towards the beginning of the film, Chris Pine's Kirk will be demoted for violating the Prime Directive on Nibiru and accidentally revealing the Enterprise to the natives. Bruce Greenwood's Captain Christopher Pike will be put in charge of the Enterprise with Kirk serving as first officer and Zachary Quinto's Spock getting transferred to another vessel."

  2. The prequel comics Countdown to Darkness are explaining how they get caught up in all of that...

Spoilers from comic: There's a species on the planet (seemingly the Neberians-never seen before in Star Trek) and they have been split into two camps, as some of these species are more advanced and now engaged in a civil war...It get's revealed that Robert April has his first officer, Alex Marcus, lie to Star Fleet about his existence, mean while he or they have been black marketing Star Fleet Fleet Weapons to the race, as Robert April leads one side of the war. Kirk goes against the prime directive, because he is antsy and wants to stretch his legs, and although discouraged by other members of the crew, including Spock, they go anyways and some of the crew Zulu and a minor character) get captured by the other camp when their shuttle is shot down. Clearly, despite Kirk going against principal Star Fleet orders, there is something happening that shouldn't be on the planet, because these species have had 'first contact' due to April and advanced by technology....So the fact that Star Fleet is punishing Kirk, makes me think that either they don't have a choice to punsih him to make an example, or Star Fleet actually does know about what's going....at the end of the second issue, Spock suddenly takes off by himself and leaves Kirk behind with Robert April...I really need issue three NOW!!

  5. I really liked the last Countdown prequel one's too, along with NERO and Spock Reflection tie-in comics! They really helped solidify the events in the 2009 film. Mike Johnson wrote some of the early FRINGE comics too! He seems like a good comic partner for Bad Robot on behalf of IDW. -The only ones in the new time line I don't have are most off 'the ongoing' ones that continue from the end of the 2009 film and are working their way into Countdown To Darkness (they mostly explored similar, but yet at times alternate events from Star Trek's previous time line...) Anyways the art is pretty nice and Countdown To Darkness has me pretty excited about the upcoming film!!!
