Justified - "Peace of Mind" - 4.12 - Preview

After the climactic one-two punch of "Get Drew" and "Decoy", the penultimate episode of the season, "Peace of Mind", is a slowdown of sorts.  The main plot line of the season (finding and capturing Drew Thompson) is more or less solved, and what's left for the characters—and the show—is tying up loose ends.  That's sort of what the season as a whole has been doing: instead of focusing on a new aspect of Harlan County, as in Season 2, or bringing in outside forces, like in Season 3, this season's been focused on using the existing conflicts and dynamics to build its story, throwing in the odd mystery or new minor character to get the plot going.  Because of this, almost all the plotlines are important and feel like the culmination of several seasons, if not the entire series.  Also because of this, there are episodes every once in a while that slow down and need to take care of some of the smaller plots, and that's "Peace of Mind".

That's not to say there isn't good stuff in the episode, there is.  It's still a great episode of 'Justified', and it sets up an intense season finale.  Look forward to seeing Ellen May's storyline take center stage, Johnny Crowder's constant attempts to betray Boyd finally come back to him, and... Colt deciding to quit smoking.

"Peace of Mind" premieres tomorrow night on FX.

  1. Shame. I was waiting for a huge shoot out that never came last episode and so for this to be slow too I'm kinda disappointed...I'm ready for a showdown...guess we'll have to wait until the finale for that.

  2. Same here! They better get to it on the finale, as they built one helluvah tension throughout the season.
